Dad, truck driver for 1st Armored, North Africa and Italian campaigns. Never forgot Anzio & 4 months the Germans shelled, pinning them to the beach before their breakout to Rome. Best friend killed. But, he came home with a warm spot for the people.
My grandfather was in the 178th Firld Artillery unit of the 5th Army. I have some stuff he kept from Italy. He started in North Africa. I think he made a girlfriend in Italy. In later yrs my grandmother never let him forget about Maria in Italy. God blessed me to be part of his old unit which has now been turned into a chemical warfare unit.
My grandfather too! 5th Army he fought in North Africa and Italy and also had an Italian girlfriend named Maria. I'm told they conceived a son named Michael who is still in Italy somewhere.
