Well put, there is indeed a very youthful and refreshing quality to the sound of this album. It stays so relaxed and laid back despite having those awesome punchy moments. I love how they balance it all out.
As a huge Pumpkins fan couldn't help but smile throughout this whole video, always nice to see someone start to get into them (also, Gish is one of my favorite albums of theirs as well). That said, if you also enjoy Siamese Dream as much as it seems you did with Gish, I'd strongly advise you to listen to Pisces Iscariot before Mellon Collie, it includes some of their best work and also serves as a nice introduction to the next Pumpkin's era. Thanks for making these!
So happy that you enjoyed the video! I always love hearing that my reactions bring joy to long time fans of bands like Smashing Pumpkins. This album was an absolute joy to listen to and I am looking forward to my journey through the rest of their albums.
@Big Matty 💪 totally! I’ve been listening to the band for about 28 years or so, and I’ve discovered amazing tracks on TH-cam that I never even knew existed! And you’re right, a lot of them are as good as anything that ever made it onto an album.
No one can ride the razors edge between the sublime and the savage like the Pumpkins did on their early records. Looking forward to seeing your reactions to more of their albums. Please check out Jane's Addiction (Nothing's Shocking and Ritual de Lo Habitual) as well. They have a similar vicious magnificence. Thanks, Molly!
I cannot wait to dive more into Smashing Pumpkins! Gish was such a great listen. And I'll be sure that Jane's Addiction is on my list as well, thanks for the suggestion :)
Was going to suggest them as well, but since it's taken I'll add DInosaur Jr. Them and Jane's are probably the beginning of what became "grunge" in the 90's. Alternative hard rock or metal is what you might call them.
@@mollyesanborn If you liked it check out their song drown it has similar vibes!! Idk if it’s on any SP album but it was on the soundtrack to the movie singles which if you haven’t seen it Is the best portrayal of the early 90s Seattle music scene in fiction while including appearances from many real bands like Alice In Chains,Pearl jam, and soundgarden.
@@terry10tnj The only other "official" spot to find Drown is on the Rotten Apples collection, but it's a radio edit that cuts the long guitar outro. Fully recommend the Singles soundtrack as a whole though
Aww yeah I think you're gonna have fun with these albums! Jimmy was originally a jazz drummer, so he has really great feel and tone - he can do a lot with a simple drum part and just make it sound amazing, and they really let the drums shine on this album. I'm laughing imagining Billy's face at "is that a kazoo" though
Yeah I'm so excited to dive more into their music now! Gish was such a fun album, and there is a certain fluidity to it that is kinda reminiscent of jazz music.
It is indescribably fun to watch someone from the new gen listen to these records for the first time : ) the early Pumpkins are bottled magic. I had so much nostalgia watching this. You have a great ear for parsing out the 'ingredients' of these albums. The Pumpkins were and still are one of a kind. They somehow blend together psych rock, prog, shoegaze, goth, metal etc. yet somehow manage to make it all into a cohesive whole. Tristessa and I Am One were like my anthems as a disaffected teen haha
So happy to see you listening to Gish. I love 90s Smashing Pumpkins. Their next 2 albums are the fan favorites but I think Gish is my favorite. It’s the perfect length, it has great flow, and the genre fusion of shoegaze, hard rock, and psychedelia is just perfect. Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are absolute classics though. Excited to see you rinse their early catalog. As a fan of Hum, you will not be disappointed.
Yeah the flow on Gish in great, I noticed that too! For as varied as it is the tracks all fit perfectly together. Definitely looking forward to hearing more from Smashing Pumpkins :)
I love this album! It grows on me more as time goes by. You can hear so much classic rock tribute throughout. The thing that stands out to me is the use of what I call the Jimmy Hendrix chord (E7#9) which is seen all over Siva. Billy's strat sounds more like a normal strat since it was prior to using Lace Sensor pickups which have a more modern sound. I like this album for being their weird psychedelic take on a lot of standard hard rock music. Its great.
You get it! I’m so glad. The second one is huge but I really like their debut because of the mix of rockers and Psychedelic Ballads. I thought it was perfect. And Butch Vig produced both records and Nevermind. He’s a great producer for drums and guitar.🎸
I really enjoyed your reaction. Gish has such a unique sound, I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like it. I'm glad you started from the beginning, and I hope you continue the journey!
Along with Deftones, this was one of my favorite bands in high school. I believe they were also an influence on Chino to some extent. You should definitely check out The Cure as well. They have a very diverse discography and have influenced many bands over the last 20 years. And also more in the prog direction, check out Between the Buried and Me, Periphery, and The Contortionist (who have obvious Deftones influences). Those all have perfect albums to listen to cover to cover.
This absolutely made my day! The Pumpkins have been one of my favorite bands since I was 9 and I’m 37 now. I can’t wait for you to check out Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness as well. If you enjoyed this album, you’ll LOVE those for sure. Great reaction as always!
I'm so glad you reacted to GISH. I really love this album. Especially Jimmy Chamberlin's drumming in this album is great! Also Iha's guitar is. And ensemble of all instruments is fantastic above all‼
The song 'Siva' caught my attention when had the MTV show '120 minutes' going in the background. I ended up picking up 'Gish' on it's day of release along with Morbid Angel - 'Blessed are the Sick' that also released that day. Both albums have bought multiple formats and times. I can't believe it has been more than 30 years.
Your descriptions of the songs was like describing a good tasting whisky. Loved your reaction. And I love the band. If you liked Gish , you will love the next 2 albums
Smashing Pumpkins have some of my favorite 90s albums ever. Glad to see you digging into their music and look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on them!
This album transports me to a wonderful time. Still a bulletproof classic, from beginning to end. I also discovered Ween around this time. The Pod was the 1st album I heard. Would love seeing your take on that classic.
MOLLY, this reaction is the world to me being that this album was so much a part of my childhood, if you ever want to get away from the grunge or metal aspect but also have the hidden gem of the 90s mix in there as well then any album from Jellyfish would be perfect for you and also would put such a smile on my face as well as many others who happen to be familiar with the band. They truly are THE HIDDEN GEM OF THE 90S. Sorry so create so much emphasis but it hurts me that only a select few know this band. But to bring it back I love the layed back style of your content. Always refreshing to just hang out with someone in their room and watch them go through one of my favorite albums. Please keep it up!!!!
Thank you for watching! I'm so glad that you're enjoying the channel. And thanks for the band suggestion too, I've never heard of Jellyfish before. I'll be sure to add them to my list for future videos :)
In 1990 (or 89'?) I passed Billy Corgan in a trashy club in Salem Oregon that they were playing at. I was headed into the bathroom and he was headed out. I said "sup" and he said "sup" back. Lol
The drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, also has another band where he shows off more of his jazz influences called "The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex" that might be worth a listen for you. Great reaction, pleasure to see someone reacting to Gish!
This album, Temple of The Dog, Alice In Chains Dirt, Soundgarden Superunknowm, Pearl Jam Ten and Dream Theater Images and Words were probably the albums that were permanently in my 10 CD disc changer in the early 90s as a teenager. Still listen to all of them pretty frequently to this day
Your thoughts on the album were very interesting to hear, a fresh perspective on an album I've been listening to for 30 years now. I look forward to hearing your take on Siamese Dream. It's my favorite album of all time.
I'm so happy you started on the Pumpkins. They are one of the best alternative bands ever in my opinion. I can't wait for you to get to Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, two of the best albums of the 90s. Oh man its you are picking some incredible bands. Can't wait for you to get to One of Us is the Killer by Dillinger and more Type O Negative or maybe even some more Cult of Luna. Oh and you've still got the post-Layne AiC era. Your videos are a massive highlight for my days. Keep it up.
Your comment put a smile on my face, I always love hearing that these videos bring a little joy to someone's day ❤ And the Smashing Pumpkins did not disappoint, Gish was a great introduction to them as a band. Amazing album from start to finish. And (spoiler alert) I just filmed my Siamese Dream reaction earlier today so stay tuned for that one soon! Anyway I'm glad you're enjoying the channel and following along with my journey into all of these amazing bands.
Loved SP since the first time I heard them. Their music will forever be in my life. I’m super excited to see u enjoy their discography. It’s impeccable.
Great choice! This band has soooo many amazing songs and also lots of other songs that the public doesn't know about that could of been hit singles that didn't make it on the album .the singer, songwriter Billy Corgan on average writes like 50 plus songs a year. My faves are I am One, Siva, Rhinoceros, Crush, Bury Me and Daydream. Also yes you nailed it they were and still are incredibly diverse!
Billy's voice is unique, so many people complain about it because it was so different from the other rock singers of that time but i love it, he is a genius!
Pumpkins were a really interesting combo of hard rock and legitimately romantic, tender vibes mixed with ambient sonic bliss. How I describe this album is like a post-love breakup when you're questioning everything and you feel so lost.
it's been a while since I heard this album, I really did enjoy the early Pumpkins of old...my picks on Gish are Siva, Rhinoceros and Snail, and I had totally forgotten D'arcy sung lead on Daydream
Oh that makes a lot of sense! I love that they utilize a lot of that fuzzy, shoegaze style that MBV really embraces. Smashing Pumpkins kinda fuses that with a bit more of the rock sound and it works really well.
OH MY GOSH U DID IT!! My fav album by the Smashing Pumpkins yay! Be sure to checkout Siamese Dream, Pisces Iscariot & Mellon Collie 😊 I think Rhinoceros is my favorite from this album along with Snail!
I know, I finally did Smashing Pumpkins! I've been wanting to get to their discography for the longest time. And I will certainly do videos for those records you mention, I actually just filmed my Siamese Dream reaction today so stay tuned for that video ;)
The second track is apparently pronounced 'Shiva' like the Indian god. Don't know why it's not written like that - Billy's an eccentric, ha ha. Glad you're on this journey!
@@mollyesanborn Ha ha. On that topic, they're about to release a 33-track 'rock opera' triple album, called Atum (pronounced like "Autumn"). You've already noticed the variety of music they're capable of, so I hope you'll keep going and include the post 90s major albums like Zeitgeist, Oceania and Cyr (pron: "Seer"). I'd like to encourage you to do reactions to those albums, especially as most reaction videos tend to just focus on the big hit 90s stuff. I'm sure commenters will fill you in on a lot of Pumpkins lore along the way too - there's always a lot of stuff going on in the background with them. Lol
One of my all time favorite albums!!! IMO, their best, right out the gate swinging. Great example of some good ol classic rock and a reminder of doing so little can go a long way!!! It also helps that you have a well rounded, very talented band to provide this morsel of ear candy. Siamese is amazing as well, and melancholy works for me now, which for many years it did not. Even to this day, anything after melancholy, it is very hit and miss. They really started to lose me after their third album, goes without saying that over time they had their songs that were appealing, but as a whole album, speaking for myself, it was just nothing in comparison to the first 3 albums. Loved the reaction as always!
Glad you enjoyed the reaction! Gish was a great introduction to Smashing Pumpkins, you put it perfectly in how they manage to do so much with so little on this record. They know how to use minimalistic instrumentals at times to create that much more of an impact. Really impressive too considering this is their debut. Can't wait to hear more from them! :)
Okay, now I'm anxiously awaiting reviews for two sophomore albums from you, Helmet's Meantime, and SP's Siamese Dream. Both are on my list for masterpiece albums.
I'm so glad to see you taking the path through the Pumpkin patch. IMO, Jimmy Chamberlin's background is one of the things that really separates the Pumpkins from their peers. Some other weird connections: this was produced by Butch Vig, who would immediately after produce Nirvana's Nevermind (and later found the band Garbage). Courtney Love was dating Billy Corgan at the time and appears in the Rhinoceros video. Billy Corgan, infatuated with the sound of My Bloody Valentine, would hire their engineer Alan Moulder to mix the next album, Siamese Dream. Chino Moreno, a favorite of yours from what I've seen, joined the Pumpkins at their 30th anniversary show (which I had the pleasure of attending) to perform "Snail" - th-cam.com/video/pKNVrjmSQyk/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the info! I am very glad that I've taken the path through the pumpkin patch too, haha. Gish was a great listen and I am really excited to hear more from them.
Nothing quite like early Smashing Pumpkins, love 'em or hate 'em they didn't really sound like their contemporaries. If you haven't heard the next three albums you're in for an adventure. Siamese Dream to Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness to Adore. Gish is a lovely album and not sure many would have projected where the band would go from there.
For me, Gish is the discovery of a beautiful raw material. Siamese Dream is taking that material to an expert craftsman to coax out the material’s fullest potential.
I haven't heard this album honestly, not for any particular reason, the next album Siamese Dreams just has such a gravitational pull why listen to much else, it's a stone cold classic 😂 I really like it based on the video though, I NEED to check it out. Great video also, as always.
Definitely go give Gish a listen! Great record, I love how they utilize so many dynamics with their sound but they implement it in a really delicate way. They go from soft and measured to punchy rock without you even realizing haha!
Gish and Siamese Dream are 2 of my favorite albums of all time. Back since the first days they both released. I also strongly suggest their B-Sides album ( Pisces Iscariot) that has material created during that exact same era of albums. I also really enjoy their double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. But... that's about it for me and that band. Billy's voice just gets way too nasally sounding every album afterwards (in my opinion). Even during some of Mellon Collie honestly. But some of my favorite Pumpkins songs exist on the 2nd disc of Mellon Collie so I do love that half of the album nearly as much as their first 2 releases.
Gish is easily my favorite album by The Smashing Pumpkins. Track 2 Siva, after the Hindu God, so pronounced Sheeva. Gish is a great example of dynamics utilized in music. I'd say after Gish, I can't say that I like any Smashing Pumpkins album anywhere near as much as that album. Corgan is a great songwriter but I just never got into anything a lot after that, other than their song "Zero". If you listen to the rest of their albums you will see that no other Pumpkins album really comes close to their first album in the amount of soul they put it into it. The song they put into the soundtrack for the movie "Singles" was amazing as well. Gish to me is their premiere album.
I've been binge watching your channel. Love the way you're able to connect with music. Request : (if possible) Blind melon - any of their albums. Shannon hoon is great.
I've been a big fan for the longest time, but not having started at the beginning like you did, I hadn't actually given Gish much of a chance, and I realise that now you're reacting to it. It's better than I remember, must have some growing-on-you quality on there. Snail surprised me, especially. But more than any individual song, it does just come together as a whole very well. Would still say my only favourite off it is Rhinoceros (among some really strong competition from other albums) but others have definitely gained more appreciation. I think Daydream would sound really nice immediately before Disarm (which you may not have heard yet). Hey, thinking about it... I have a lot of such thoughts when it comes to the Pumpkins. Maybe they're the band that started me on one of my favourite things to do - mixing songs back-to-back. I think so actually! They do cover such a wide range in total, and this album is a good bit of a clue-in to that, with its own bit of range. This'll be quite a journey, anyway. Do make sure to include Pisces Iscariot, as although it's often viewed as a side-album, it was intended as a main entry, as well as Teargarden, which began as an experiment with not being a traditional album format but basically ended up as one after the thing they were trying with it didn't work out. I will be very interested when you get to Zeitgeist, which was not well received at all but imo shines on re-examination and made some of my absolute favourite tracks of theirs (although mostly from the non-album material during that time), and Oceania, my favourite album of theirs and I think their most consistent... both long after a lot of people had written them off as so pared-down as to be a nostalgia act or pretense. But Billy's always at the heart of the songwriting and to my reckoning it never fails to show, and always makes for something interesting, even if I have my greater and lesser picks among them. People in general are too keen to be dismissive of groups beyond their standout success times, and this band's definitely one of those examples. Some of their best songs haven't even had a studio version yet (and may never, sadly). The guy's the only songwriter I can think of, in a similar style, that seems just like me - someone who simply can't stop writing songs, like they just spill from you and you can't turn it off. That's how it seems anyway, from a fan perspective. Always connected a lot from that seeming-relatability, as well as the music itself evoking emotion.
Thank you for saying that about Zeitgeist. That album is fantastic, some of Jimmy's best drum work, and Corgan's guitars are just on fire throughout. That album deserves much more love than it typically gets!
@@onezerostar Corgan's singing on it is often overlooked too. Might be among his best. My favourite Pumpkins song is Superchrist (and it perfectly represents my favourite side of them stylistically), and screw it, I don't care why it was made - Glow is underrated too, awesome tune. Off the album itself, That's the Way is beautiful, I still dig Starz, one of the few songs so obviously click-tracked that actually seems to benefit from it rather than it being a failing (and clearly a choice, given such a talented drummer) - those howling high notes with the relentless crash going on! Such a mood. United States has grown on me a lot too. Doomsday Clock always kicked ass and still does. Bleeding the Orchid is probably one of the best things they ever did just musically, if you can get past the thematic awkwardness of it referring to masturbation, which... cool whatever but not the best mood-fit maybe? Still love it though - that sort of swimmy damaged-VHS-mimicking pitch-bending always gets me, and best intro kick-in ever, right. Seven Shades of Black's a bit of a sleeper, too. I think a lot of people got all wrapped up in who was or wasn't in the band or whatever but I never really cared much about backstage drama so long as my ears got what they wanted, and they consistently have.
Thanks for taking the time to write this, I enjoyed reading your thoughts and insights into this record. A few others have suggested Pisces Iscariot as well, so I'll be sure to give that one a listen. It's interesting you say that about Daydream/Disarm being paired together. I just filmed my Siamese Dream reaction earlier today so Disarm is fresh in my head and that really would work beautifully. Both tracks have that clearer quality to their tone, more up front vocals and an orchestral element too. But yeah I'm very excited to dive further into their music and hear all of their albums eventually. Seems like it will be a fun journey! :)
@@mollyesanborn ahhh so cool you responded! Your videos are brilliant, always loads of insight into the music and they cover a lot of awesome bands too. :) glad you found my thoughts interesting. Pisces isn't very high up for me personally among their albums, although I do think of its song Whirr as a stand-out track. They have done some standalone singles that don't appear on albums, too. If at any point you feel like adding one or two of those to your listening, I would strongly recommend Superchrist (from around the time of Zeitgeist) and "the End is the Beginning is the End" (from around the time of Melon Collie). Will be excitedly awaiting the upload! :)
The little twinkly sounds you hear in the background of "Daydream" are from the little bracelets Billy was wearing while playing the acoustic guitar. The "I'm Going Crazy" part at the very end was actually a hidden track ... lotta bands used to tack them onto the end of their CDs in the 90s (and they wouldn't be listed on the track listing, so it'd be like a little surprise), but that concept pretty much died when digital music started taking over. Get ready for Siamese Dream!
Daydream is my favorite track off Gish. It hints at some great orchestral work to come on their future albums. That twinkling you hear is Billy Corgan’s bracelet rattling as he played the guitar. The producer, Butch Vig, complained about being able to hear it and Billy just said, “Well it’s in time, right?”
You know one of my college buddies turned me on to Smashing Pumpkins and he said listen to that which was Gish and I was blown away because to me they didn’t sound like anyone else. Billy’s vocals were very unique, his and James guitar 🎸 playing very original and inspirational, Darcy with her own ice Queen vibe, and Jimmy’s very unique approach to playing aggressively and then quietly and then amazing dexterity with ghost notes on the snare and toms with jazz flavoring! So to sum up they didn’t sound like any group at their time not grunge, soft rock, not alternative, not Progressive rock just their own unique sound which was unheard before ala Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix where right of the Shute as a listener you were going what’s this? I don’t know but I like this! Saw the Gish tour and then Siamese Dream tour as part of LOLLAPOLOOZA! Love the guys! I do miss Darcy though! Just sayin 💔
I've been doing a deep dive on early grunge up to Gish and you're absolutely right about it sounding wonderfully different. Rhinocerous hits really hard. Everytime this band came on the radio those days I had to stop and listen.
Very cool album...haven't listened to older SP in a while. Still sounds great. Jimmy Chamberlin is an underrated drummer, IMO...Siamese Dream is probably their best (although I really like Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness as well)
Can't wait til you get to Siamese Dream. One of the. very few PERFECT (yes, I said it) albums ever recorded. Also, a note: check on TH-cam...there's a video of Chino from deftones dueting with Smashing Pumpkins on "Snail."
Oh and unless someone has already said its D'Arcy the bassist singing on the final song. She sings on like a song each album until she left the band, sometimes with James Iha the other guitarist (also the guitarist in A Perfect Circle).
So glad to see you covering Pumpkins, Molly. They were and incredibly popular and celebrated band back in the day, but most reaction channels either completely ignore them or focus on a couple of obvious singles and never touch them again, which is a huge oversight. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on their other classic albums and hope you also include Pisces Iscariot amongst them. They lost me after Adore but it’ll be interesting to see what you think. Thanks once again. :)
Glad you're excited for the Smashing Pumpkins content! Gish was a great introduction and I will certainly do more albums of theirs. A few others have suggested I check out Pisces Iscariot too. It's a compilation album of theirs if I'm not mistaken? I'll have to give it a listen too!
@@mollyesanborn yep, Pisces Iscariot is a compilation of b-sides and outtakes that they released between their second and third albums, and everything on it is as strong as anything that ended up on the albums to be honest! Between it and the next two albums (Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness), there is a world of great songs for you to discover from this band. Their album Adore is also really great but very different from anything else they’ve released, and leans more toward the melodic and acoustic side, but is heartbreakingly beautiful as well.
The Gish era to their Machina era were the golden years of the Smashing Pumpkins. I wouldn't recommend anything after that but as LeVar Burton used to say in every episode of Reading Rainbow, "you don't have to take my word for it."
I haven't seen one of these in a bit. Glad to see you're still at it. SP is going to escalate quickly, and get weird just as quick. It is the ultimate melodramatic music. Just yell shut up mom and slam you door before listening to get in the right mood.

This album is amazing, but SIamese Dream (their follow-up) is one of the best album ever recorded. Can't wait for you to hear it!
I might've just filmed my video for it today, hehe... and yes, I was blown away. AMAZING record.
Your descriptions of the songs was like describing a good tasting whisky. Loved your reaction. And I love the band. If you liked Gish , you will love the next 2 albums
So glad you did gish. One of my favorite albums, and no one else I know has heard of it.
Smashing Pumpkins have some of my favorite 90s albums ever. Glad to see you digging into their music and look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on them!
Glad you're digging the Smashing Pumpkins content! Gish was a great introduction to them and I'm so stoked to dive into more of their music.
+1 for Jellyfish!
Lol
Probably one of my favourite albums of that era. Siamese Dream is a monster of an album but Gish is more dear to me. Thank you for a great reaction.
Keep it up.
Omg Siamese Dreammmmm. 🤪
Your comment put a smile on my face, I always love hearing that these videos bring a little joy to someone's day ❤
And the Smashing Pumpkins did not disappoint, Gish was a great introduction to them as a band.
I love how this album looks like coming straight from a beautiful and bizarre dream. One of my favorite alum so far.
Loved how you described the music as measured! Couldn't agree more.
For whatever reason, "Suffer" stuck out for me.
Billy's voice is unique, so many people complain about it because it was so different from the other rock singers of that time but i love it, he is a genius!
I have never experienced muffled drums on Gish! Interesting! I will listen again with a different mind set. Thanks!
Don’t miss out on Pisces iscariot. It’s basically the songs that didn’t make it onto the first two albums but it’s great.
Oh man, I can not wait for you to hear Siamese Dream...it's my favorite album of all time.
The band leader Billy Corgan has said that he was heavily inspired by My Bloody Valentine. Great observation.
Keep going with the Pumpkins' discography!!
Wretzky? are you related to Darcy?
Gish is great, hopefully you like their other albums! imo Siamese Dream is their best and I’m excited to see what you think about it
Yes, I'm sooooo excited to hear Siamese Dream along with the rest of their albums!
Has to be Mellon Collie for me.
I may be on an island by myself, but Machina is their best album IMO.
Siamese Dream is the greatest alternative rock album ever made. Can’t wait for her to react to it
Love The Smashing Pumpkins, excited to go thus journey of discovery with you
I'm so happy to finally be getting into their music! Glad to have you along for the journey :)
I was hoping you would start reviewing the Pumpkins music they have a great diverse collection of albums excited to see you review more.
Yeah I've been wanting to get into their music for a while now! I'm really excited to hear more and see where they take their sound following Gish.
I literally love the Smashing Pumpkins so much. Seeing you do a reaction to this is so awesome!
Yay! Glad you're excited to watch my journey into the Smashing Pumpkins' music :)
Yes this album is SO good!!
100% agree with you!!
Great review to one of the greatest bands of all time! You nailed it with the my bloody valentine reference.. big influence of theirs
Oh that makes a lot of sense! I love that they utilize a lot of that fuzzy, shoegaze style that MBV really embraces. Smashing Pumpkins kinda fuses that with a bit more of the rock sound and it works really well.
I always forget how great "Gish" is, because the next two albums are out of this world-good. Thank you for reminding!
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO
MY FAVORITE BAND
I'm so excited to dive further into their music!!
@@mollyesanborn Listen to the third album, and you will love the band.
The second track is apparently pronounced 'Shiva' like the Indian god. Don't know why it's not written like that - Billy's an eccentric, ha ha. Glad you're on this journey!
Yes - the Hindu deity of destruction
Thanks for clearing that up! I butchered that pronunciation, haha.
Lol
I will never tire of you saying, "a-cue-stick". I get the giggles every time 😊
One of my all time favorite albums!!!
Chino also sang "Bodies" but I'll save the link for that for when you get to Mellon Collie
Thank you for the info! I am very glad that I've taken the path through the pumpkin patch too, haha. Gish was a great listen and I am really excited to hear more from them.
@@ShaqPlaque holy crap, how did I not know he did a Bodies cover?! Thank you for that!
Nice!! I hope you proceed with more Pumpkins! Their next album, Siamese Dream, still sits in my Top 5 albums of all time.
So glad your doing this. An amazing thing awaits, when you get to Mellon collie and the infinite sadness.. Five star reaction 😊
Ooh I'm so excited to hear it!
I never comment lol... But your breakdowns are spot on ❤ Absolutely perfect.
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying them :)
Yes! The Smashing Pumpkins! 💯💯💯
For me, Gish is the discovery of a beautiful raw material. Siamese Dream is taking that material to an expert craftsman to coax out the material’s fullest potential.
YESSS.....My favorite band from the 90's !!
I haven't heard this album honestly, not for any particular reason, the next album Siamese Dreams just has such a gravitational pull why listen to much else, it's a stone cold classic 😂
I really like it based on the video though, I NEED to check it out. Great video also, as always.
Gish is a great album. Not listening to it because Siamese Dream is excellent is odd lol.
Yeah the dynamics on Gish are so good! The transitions from relaxed and minimal to aggressive rock are so smooth, it's really impressive.
I first got this record in June of 1991 and was blown away, Molly! It was everything I wanted in a band. You know what I mean, Molly?
Well this is a nice surprise. Can’t wait to see the journey.
cant wait to see the reaction to adore thats my favorite album of theirs. Great vid
I logged in just to give you some credit for recognizing the my bloody valentine influence only 4 songs in.
Haha, I appreciate that! :)
I've been binge watching your channel. Love the way you're able to connect with music.
Request : (if possible)
Blind melon - any of their albums. Shannon hoon is great.
Glad you're enjoying the videos! I will make sure that Blind Melon is on my list of bands to check out, thanks :)
I loved your reaction. Gish is an amazing album!
Yeah this album was such a great listen! Glad you enjoyed the reaction :)
So many goosebump moments on this release 😮
Yep, the goosebumps always mean it's top quality music :)
Love this album. siamese dream will always be my favorite, but Gish and Pisces Iscariot a right up there
I love going back to their early albums. Such epic recordings in my life.
I forgot how awesome this album is
Great review! Hope you do their other albums….and you nailed it with calling it ‘fuzzy’. Shoegsze dreampop. Love it. They are so diverse too.
Siamese Dreams was a classic. Basically 90's - early 2000s albums are the best.
Did a little binge today - can’t wait for you to do Siamese Dream!
Regardless of the album, it is great seeing your love for music.
Yay! Another 10/10 album and reaction!!!
Fun fact: The drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, was a jazz drummer, hence that “laidback feel” of the drums
Everytime this band came on the radio those days I had to stop and listen.
one of my favorite bands
I love that "Window Paine" got a special mention for its peaks and valleys. What a tune!
Gish s a good album for sure Would check the band Ned's Atomic Dustbin and their album God Fodder, a great UK band firom the seminal 90s.🎉
My Molly another great video. Looking forward to your listen through of Kezia - Protest the Hero
I'll make sure that it's on my list! :)
Oh and unless someone has already said its D'Arcy the bassist singing on the final song. She sings on like a song each album until she left the band, sometimes with James Iha the other guitarist (also the guitarist in A Perfect Circle).
Thanks for letting me know! I love her voice on Daydream, she's a really talented singer.
If I remember correctly, Billy was wearing a bracelet while tracking acoustic guitar, hence the twinkling sounds on Daydream!
That's really cool! I actually love that sound, it adds a really unique element in the background.
The Gish era to their Machina era were the golden years of the Smashing Pumpkins. I wouldn't recommend anything after that but as LeVar Burton used to say in every episode of Reading Rainbow, "you don't have to take my word for it."
Oceania sits along side those. But, yeah, after that, they arent great.
I haven't seen one of these in a bit. Glad to see you're still at it. SP is going to escalate quickly, and get weird just as quick. It is the ultimate melodramatic music. Just yell shut up mom and slam you door before listening to get in the right mood.
Yeah I'm really excited to dive down the Smashing Pumpkins rabbit hole! Gish was a great introduction to their music.
