His 40 x 40 insulated building isn't big enough. And I'm ecstatic over my new 10 x10 Harbor Freight shed. Looks like I can need to be cranking out more videos on my channel.

It's great to see a guy taking proper care of his equipment, no matter what flavor it is. It's an investment that will last as long as you need it. Looking forward to seeing the new shop.
The third hydraulic is a case drain line, essentially a return line to the tank, it helps with pressure relief on high flow applications. It can also help with a surge from bogging down an implement.
Breakers and drill applications normally require a case drain.
Yep, it's a case drain. Any attachment that has a hydraulic motor (spinning shaft) will have a small amount of internal leakage. The case drain allows that oil to return to the tank instead of building case pressure on the back side of the shaft seal. If your attachment only has hydraulic cylinders, it won't have that third case drain line. It's not 100% necessary to run that third line but if you're attachment has it, it's a good idea to use it. It prevents premature hydraulic motor wear.

Are you willing to consider some advice? Make the door wider than 10'. You'll likely never regret going to 12' or 14', but you may regret NOT doing it...
You are absolutely right! A 10’ door is a tight squeeze for a pickup with trailer mirrors on it these days. I thought I was good to go at 10’ when I built my shop 20 years ago. Wow was I wrong I curse the 10’ door almost everyday.
Plus space on the sides when you have things half in the door will always be handy!!
The 10' door was for in between structures. Just for the for lift..... should suffice .... the bigger the door the more heat loss.
I'm looking forward to seeing the screws fitted to the steel wall panels in a 5" gap !!
Never in my life have I ran equipment, ran an old clapped out forklift at a family members house a few times to move big old 40’s power wagon axles, and never in my life do I foresee myself running heavy equipment. But still I watched this video, and I think that reason for that is because no matter the topic is you make it entertaining and highly informative. I look forward to the uploads from this channel, the videos truly bring some measure of joy into my life. Best of luck with the concrete pour my friend

Some hydraulic motors have what they call a case drain, to catch up internal leakage. The third connection you can connect to the case drain and goes direct back into the hydraulic resivoir/ tank
Cody that case drain is rather important, in some components if you don't drain that leakage fluid you will blow out seals and the like.

The move your making is smart honestly, When we bought out property here in Colorado, it was untouched wooded land and just to clear enough space for a shop to be built and future home was nearly twice the price of buying the equipment myself. I purchased a Skid steer and had the dealership teach me the basics and went from there. Not only did it save me money on clearing my own property, it paid for itself since then, because as i was clearing the land and poured my shop slab, many of the neighbors took interest in it and asked me how much much i would charge them to do so and so.. and just a few weekend jobs later and i earned back what i paid for the equipment. I use ours as a mower and all, found it far faster than the tractor i initially tried to use.

I have a few friends who are heavy equipment mechanics in gold mines in Nevada. They work long 12 hour shifts, but have lots of days off. One of them runs a part time tile/bathroom remodel business on his days off. He's a really hard worker and said he made over $200k in 2020. He's 25 years old! College is not worth it nowadays.
I’m a hydraulics tech in the air-force, you can have a hydraulic line that’s capped or plugged, as long as there’s no internal bypass or a failing check valve it shouldn’t make a difference. I’d speculate that third line is for attachments that have a high pressure low volume, and low pressure high volume lines, maybe not but that’d be my guess, on the aircraft that’s usually the reason for capped line, other than to bypass said line.
The 3rd line is what ive always called the case drain. If youre running a attachment with say a hydraulic motor then its used to drain pressurized hydraulic fluid that leaks into the pump casing so that it doesnt blow out the seals. So, its basically a hydraulic fluid vent that goes back to the hydraulic fluid tank.
Working on equipment ive seen people try to hook up a single acting hydraulic cylinder to the line which of course wont work.
Ive also seen people put a attachment that has a case drain line on a piece of equipment that doesnt have the 3rd line so they just remove the line and cap it off. Then they wonder why the pump on it keeps blowing out seals.

There is something satisfying watching someone work on heavy equipment. Especially when they are passionate about it.
On our family Dairy farm the tractors and equipment sat outside for 30 years. In 1992 we were able to put up a 40X80 machine shed and the tractor and all have been happy ever since.
My dad was a shop foreman at PBS many years ago. Gone now but He was a heck of a welder/mechanic and when you mentioned PBS it brought back a flood of memories. I used to go to work with him when I was little and I wanted to be a welder so bad, eventually I became a certified welder. Now I work for Oregon DOT but welding is a skill I'll always be able to use, either for hobby or as a professional if I ever needed to again.
It will be fun to watch construction start on the new shop, I miss the time in my life when I was working in construction building foundation for new homes and I really enjoy seeing the construction worker/ builder mentality being used in a way that is not simply making money as quickly as possible.
The third, small connector is the sump drain line for attachments that have it. It is an extra return line.
Another nice video. Please do not make excuses or explanations why you bought that stuff. You've put in hard work and brought a lot of value to many people, giving hope, teaching values and work ethics. You deserve it.

Love your work Cody! The skid steer with the frost bite is going to be so handy around the farm. You should invest in a Makita grease/lube gun they're a major time saver.
I agree with you about being a heavy Diesel mechanic. My Dad worked for Komatsu for 40 years and he got to see a lot of the country and even got sent over seas to work.

Some attachments have relief valves, in case the motor builds up too much pressure. The hose from the relief valve connects to the 3rd nipple, allowing released fluid to return to the tank.

I trained injured and disabled people how to do “car transfers” as a physical therapist assistant. Try to avoid the side-step and pivot entry and instead try getting into the skid steer by standing up straight while facing away from the seat, then bending over while sticking your bottom out and stepping straight back in then placing your bottom straight into the seat. Worth a try. Otherwise, another enjoyable video. Thanks.
Any twist and bend, makes a compound problem.
I welded a piece of rebar to an angle iron and bolted it to the rear side of the bucket. It pays off when you are almost seventy years young. Also do not get in a hurry and consciously and carefully grab the side handles for that straight in cab entry
@@ohiofarmer5918 I’m 40 and find “things” are trying to grab me more and more on my way in and out of equipment. A little common sense farmer engineering goes a long way!

An IDEA, it would be cost-effective to separate the new for the old by say 16' and make a covered breezeway! It would be extra concrete and roofing, but would really be worth it?
Or stretch it to 4 feet, and do a solar kiln for drying all that timber you cut for future use?

when I first watched this channel way back Cody did everything by hand. I come back years later and he has all power tools, skid steer, excavator, dump trailer and all kinds of power tools. I can remember just the chain saw and his grandfathers tools.
The third smaller hydraulic connector is a drain which goes back to the reservoir. Some units use it, like some motors, some do not.
A comment for the algorithm, something really calming about the lumber mill videos. Also those shipping containers have been quadrupling in price over the last couple months you might make a decent amount of money back on your investment once the shop addition is finished.
He could also bury them to make some "subterranean storage" units 😉

You’re so right Cody. I’m 67, retired, and was blessed enough to have had an awesome career in maintenance as an engineer/supervisor. I would recommend for any young person trying to figure out what to do for a career, get a trade. Heavy equipment, electrical, millwright, plumbing etc.. You’ll make a good living and find it very rewarding.
The third hose is a case drain. It dumps the pressure to sump in case of pressure spikes while using a brush cutter or sweeper. Keeps you from blowing the seals in the motor on the equipment.

They do make adaptors to go from pioneer style fittings to flat face. That way you do not have to change all of your attachment couplers.

From about 18:16 onward, the quasi-rant about having the skills and ability to do "the work," as you say, is spot on with a project I'm currently building for myself. I could NEVER have afforded to have someone build my deck, the way I WANT IT built, by anyone else, even a "professional," deck builder. It's actually pretty basic too, which makes the situation all the more sad. Do for yourself and you'll never be unhappy with the job you've performed, a lesson my Dad taught me decades ago.
That's a nice machine, and looks powerful. You'll be better set up than Thunderbirds soon! You'll have to name them "Wrangler 1, Wrangler 2 .......

One consideration for your shop expansion if your plans permit - adding a second bay door on the opposite side from your main bay door to allow pull-through of your equipment/trailers can be really handy.
