Heavy Train Screams Up The Hill & Norfolk Southern Train Fights Gravity Holding Back It’s Load! DPU

- Trains Fighting Gravity! Trains On The Hill Out Of The Ohio River Valley. Union Pacific, CSX and BNSF Locomotives Working For Norfolk Southern. Includes Train With DPU. These trains are in Crescent Springs, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern Railroad Rat Hole Line that Cincinnati just voted to sell to Norfolk Southern for $1.6 Billion dollars. They leased it for 26 million dollars a year. Just think of all the cities that wished they owned a railroad. Norfolk Southern is making one the best possible investments ever in real estate.
We have 3 trains going down the hill and one train going up. Look at all the different locomotive paint schemes in this video. Sometimes it's hard to tell whose railroad it is. This is one of my favourite areas to film. Watching trains on this long, steep grade is very interesting. More than once I have been here when a train has stalled going up the hill. Sometimes when they go down there is a strong burning smell in the air. The railroad crossing at Beechwood Road in this video is a favourite Railfan hangout and another spot one mile north of here at the pedestrian bridge is another spot that I like. Not many railfans go there for some reason.
One thing that is very rare is seeing a CSX locomotive on this line. Notice the first train has a CSX locomotive right behind a Union Pacific locomotive. That was interesting.
Filmed Thursday, November 9, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Good morning all avid jawtooth fans -it's a nice day !
Good Morning
Morning
Morning!
Hard to think how big today's cars are, when the very first cars were no bigger than a VW bug
Hi there have a great railroad day
One of your “bestest” spots! Lot’s of action❤ I would like to wish all of my fellow railfans a warm and happy THANKSGIVING!❤
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
The "Rat Hole Line" was named that during construction, due to the many tunnels, between Cincinnati and Chattanooga. Most of the tunnels have been "daylighted now.
The entire line is owned by, or was, the city of Cincinnati and leased to the NS. ;-)
@robertweldon7909 your photo of Muttley is amazing.
Cincinnati just voted to sell it to NS so soon it will be owned by them. Over 300 miles of mainline track
Pretty cool!@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars
A total 16 centerbeam cars , 15 empty, 1 a half full, the most underrated cars. Wow those gondola cars are all bulged up on side!
The new coil carrier at 25:43 reporting mark AOK belongs to the Arkansas-Oklahoma Railroad. If the mark had been AOKX it would be Greenbrier Management, a company that manages thousands of railcars.
I love the thumbs up from the guy on the bike 😆
That was cool!
The first uphill train was moving faster than any other one I've seen going up. Sounded awesome to.
Thanks for watching!
Good Morning everyone. That first trains horn was awesome! Loud and crisp. A train of gondolas, I've never seen that before, all gondolas. Definitely NOT a "high priority" train. I like that spot. You really do hear the engines hum when coming up that hill. Great video as always Buddy. Cheers from Ontario 🇨🇦
Good morning and thanks for watching!
The best Train channel on TH-cam. Thanks for all your awesome uploads
Wow, thanks!
That first train kind of Popped the Cork and got things flowing. Surprising that there were no Intermodal trains but the gondola Garrison welcomed you back to Cincinnati with a full-blown consist. The coil train actually dipped in car count 216 and amazingly three of them had lids something that normally doesn't happen on this train. That one NB General Freight with all the coil cars also had some cars trying to fool one as they were tank cars with some of the same design and the top by the Dome looks like the lid you would lift. Mixed in there was the one Center Beam with freshly cut ties heading off for creosote. Brandi said enough already Loki. The evening time is for resting and doggy dreaming
Amazing video! Can’t wait to see the Santa train video!!
Probably take me a couple days. That was fun though
The BNSF power was sounding fabulous coming up the hill! I love that. 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this spot Brian, especially the sound of the hill putting those locomotives to work.
The 7276 CSX looks nice, compared to the grimy UP on the lead. I wonder if that train with all gons is a unit train for some commodity.
@jimwilloughby good morning, how are you doing
The steel train power was working hard, now! What a beautiful sound. 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Good morning JT. I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving🙏🏻.
Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving Bill!
Your "DPU I SEE YOU" makes me smile every time ☺ 😃
Thank you for awesome railfan videos from the “Hill”. Loved them.
Glad you like them!
Awesome video with a dpu working hard but wait there’s more 👍😎🇺🇸🚂👍
Another busy and interesting video today. Weather was great and clear. Thank you for the video, Brian. See you on the next!😊
Thanks 👍
That was a good long NA mixed freight. The DPU sounded great, too! 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
I really like seeing the trains in this area of Crescent Springs Kentucky and moving slow so you can see them more better and the dogs are always
great to see along with the slide show
at the end Thanks Jaw Tooth.🤠😎
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
Glad you like them!
It looks like 89 November 2023 was a good railfanning day on The Hill at Crescent Springs, Kentucky! All the trains had a variety of cars in them except for the gondola car train and the southbound steel coil train #375. Train #375 is the daily steel coil train from Middletown, Ohio to Rockport, Indiana. Its counterpart is Norfolk Southern train #376 which brings the empty steel coil cars back to Middletown, Ohio daily.
Thanks for the information Thomas! I hope to remember that and mention it the next time I film them. I hope I can remember that. Lol, thanks for watching!
Goodmorning to everyone and Jawtooth! It's a bright & pretty day, a nice day to bring to us "Trains arollin"!!! Thank You JT!

Just love the sound of the locomotive working hard and pushing up hill ❤❤
CSX loaned out one of their newly rebuilt GE AC4400CWM to NS.
Awesome hard working action on the hill. Fantastic variety on this one, enjoyed it immensely. Thanks JT!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The second train Really liked hearing the engines working. Enjoyed the video

Good video my dear friend, greetings from Brasil 🇧🇷
Awesome, I lived in the area most of my life and never just stop to view the trains. The Dodge Charger beep was me.
You picked some awesome spots to film these trains Mr JT. Thank you!❤😊
WELL DONE JAWTOOTH! Finally you’re on the right side of the crossing to get the full magnificent spectacle of the train coming up the hill!!!!
So much better to catch the impact off all that horsepower working at full throttle ok!
Try and always film them coming up from this side, it’s amazing :-)
Thank you very much!
Incredible power! Thanks.
You're welcome!
Really awesome train action JT!! The sound of those Locomotives working hard to get uphill is always great to hear. Enjoy seeing all the various cars also. Those steel coil cars area interesting to see. So much weight being pulled uphill. Thanks for all you do JT! Until next time!!

Rare seeing CSX power on a NS train! Good video as usual jawtooth!
Thank you very much!
Great Catches
Thanks!
Also, stop in the Grandview Tavern which is right near those tracks:)
Good video Jawtooth
Thanks!
Wow awesome 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Awesome!
That train pulling the cars with the steel coils really needed a DPU, even though it was a short train. Those coils are heavy.
I agree. That is one of my favourite trains to catch. It runs southbound everyday around noonish
You have the best train videos.
Great grpup of trains you caught this time. Next time you schedule a gondola train, get an overhead view so you can answer that nagging question, what is in that many gondolas? Thanks for sharing. 👍
Ok thanks!
With our luck, they all would be empty.
Morning jaw tooth. Always an awesome video.
That train is All Gon!
Hey jaw tooth great place to watch trains. Hope you have a great thanksgiving week. Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️
Thanks! You too! Have a great Thanksgiving and keep the trains rollin
Good seeing you pass by again! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Thanks again! Happy Thanksgiving!
13:50 That's a decent string of prison cars.
Good Morning railfans! Let's see where Brian takes us today. Stay Safe!!
Good Morning
Good morning Jon

Four articulated auto racks on the second train.
What in the name of Casey Jones is a raggedy CSX engine doing on those hallowed NS tracks??? LOL
Have A Happy Thanksgiving Jaw tooth From Frankfort Ky

Nice Video!
Thank you! Cheers!
Have you seen many of the new Canadian Pacific/Kansa City Southern logos?
No, not yet
good morning Jaw Tooth.
Good morning!
Have you ever tried to record fron the Clock tower drive side on the hill?
No but I think I will the next time I go. When I was there for this video I was looking up there and trying to determine if it was a good shot. I might have to work around the trees
Good afternoon from alva oklahoma
Hello there!
Too bad. The City has sold the rail line
It isn't sold yet but its a done deal
Selling it while the Value is still Inflated?
Good morning
Morning
Lots of good action there. The sale is stupid for Cincinnati and good for Norfolk and Southern. The city will probably waste the money.
Was the guy on the bike Gambit 69? I thought he was recording too.
No, I dont know who that was
Hey JT you didn't bring a lawn chair to watch this train (the first one in this video).
It was in the truck
@@JawTooth should have used it
Unless they start speeding up…
Cool New Csx Locomotive 💙💛💚💚💛💙💚💛💙💙💚💛🐵🍒🍉I Love It 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
I'm glad you like it
What exactly do they grease JT? I'm not familiar with that term in regards to trains and rail lines. 😊
Grease is applied to the flanges on the wheels to prevent wear and tear on the wheels and the rail. It also reduces noise
More articulated auto racks at 13:52. First noticed them a few videos ago. Are these a new thing, or have I just not noticed before?
The Greenbrier Auto-Max auto carrier has been around since about 2008. Thrall's version goes back to around 1997.
@@RailRidethanks for the information! I guess I need to be more attentive. There doesn’t seem to be too many of them, though.
Was that train “on with the wind?”
I mean “gon with the wind”.
I doubt it lol
Happy early Thanksgiving everyone 🙂
Hey jt. What does CXS stand for?
2-105, 2-67, 2-95, 3-150, 2-16.
Thanks for counting cars!
Which steam railroad were you at?
Hey JT, is there a specific reason why some steel coil cars are covered and others are not? Or is that just the way it is? Thanks.
I don't know. I have wondered that also
Why do they stop the heavy trains at the bottom of the hill? No momentum when they hut the hill.
