Thanks for putting the video up, looks like a lot of fun! You seem to be on a great track, some more months of paddling and you'll be much more secure, it just takes time to build the reflexes... Something that helped me a lot is to always keep paddling, try to never sit there in hesitation-bracing-jitter, it easily turns into a downward spiral.... You want to build your reflexes so you keep balance using your strokes so you can always apply power. It 'just' takes time in the bucket to get there :-) which is one of the things that makes surfskiing a lot of fun in the long run... Now if only we had some wind here in Santa Barbara...

Is the purpose of this dash to make it through the pass before the gosh-awful tidal currents change? That would add an intense sense of urgency to the race. Make it in time or get thrown back.

Your music is as crazy as the paddling conditions. I can literally feel your max HR

Nice job. Not a race for the feint of heart. I heard this year was absolutely crazy with 10 foot standing waves and many "rescues" (assistance).

Nice video. But what happened? Did they call the race off?

Yes. One heat started at about 9 a.m. in slightly calmer conditions, and then this second heat started at 9:15 or so. In just those 15 minutes the west wind really picked up, and beyond where I get in this video, conditions were pretty tough. One report has it that 15-20 people capsized and needed assistance.

Loved the video. Loved your courage more ! Can I recommend gym and some upper body strength work, it will get you riding the waves in a short time.Strength equals greater confidence.

At 1:14 (What? We have to go where?) was that Deception Island or the headland off your bow?
We were north of you th-cam.com/video/ZFeuY7k0WAY/w-d-xo.html

I was out by the island when I heard people yelling / whistling and turning around. At first I thought the race would continue, just not around the island. Then the man on the SUP explained what was going on and told me to head back to shore. Thanks for sharing your video.
