    Nicole, why not mirror the strawberry arch beds on the other side of the taller raised beds ?? It would look neat, tidy and cohesive, but you could plant different crops and climbers! Like cucumbers, morning glory, tiny pumpkin gourds, sweet peas …. ❤ Love you and Love your channel

    If you want ideas as to what can be grown in raised beds Mark at Self Sufficient Me has been growing most of his garden items in these type of raised beds for over 10 years. Have fun deciding. Waiting for the time I can order the beds I want to use for gardening.

    You weren’t joking when you said they weren’t cheap. These are pretty awesome and I’d definitely buy them if I could afford it. Buying these would push up the bottom line cost of my flowers and veggies. Because I can’t really garden in the ground anymore (knee replacement), I have turned to straw-bale gardening. I’m on my fourth year now and loving it.

      Tearing them apart to plant them has to be hard on the plant though right? I have to assume the roots are a tangled mat. I would love to see a video on how she does this and keeps the plants from going into major transplant shock.

      @@leahbauer8987 they just pull apart. Since they plants are air pruning their roots are different then they are in traditional pots. They're finer and not the long roots.
      I've been using them for the past 2 years and love them, will never got back to traditional trays. Its so much faster to just pull these apart then get them out of plug trays too.

    You popped out of the flower bed and I thought, so that's what being in TH-cam is like. LOL We raise everything in raised beds because we live where we get a LOT of spring and summer rain and the ground stays soggy all the time. And at our age, raised beds are the way to go. The harvest meets us half way.

    Summer squash and zucchini grow well in raised beds. Lettuce is also good in raised beds.
    You don’t really need to fertilize sweet potatoes, especially with a high nitrogen fertilizer. You may end up with more vine and less tuber if you do. Sweet potatoes love crappy soil. They grow fantastically here in the South in completely unamended clay soils. They can even help break up hard clay soils. They also can put down roots from various points on the vine do anywhere the vine touches the ground, you can get sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are just one of those tough as nails plants that thrive on adversity and neglect. Which is why they’re such a fantastic veggie for new gardeners who have the space.

    The sky's the limit with raised beds! But because of your enclosure, grow edibles. I would plant more strawberries. A constant crop of them is the goal. I often hear gardeners talk about strawberry plants lasting about three years. And in three years your rose and clematis will be glorious. So let the runners grow! 🍓🌸🌹

    For raised bed strawberries, make sure you really mulch them well in the fall and burry them in the snow ASAP. I’m in zone 3 🇨🇦 and strawberries are hard to winter in raised beds. It can be done but they need to be protected from the cold winds as soon as possible in the fall. Good luck 😊 I do love your channel, thanks for all your wonderful content.

Peppers, strawberries, onions, chives, sage, thyme, lavender, rosemary, lettuce and cabbage, and hoping to get squash and melon going this week along with some ground cherries. So fun and it’s producing really great much better than trying in the ground and getting overcrowded by the weeds and bugs. So far so good. Hi nicole, how do you do it such boundless energy and such foresight even whilst wearing oversize spectacles. Finished watching your video on watering did i hear correctly you put your children on the bus at 6 30. Msy i suggest when planting sweet potatoes you lay the slips in place and using a forked piece of wood place 1inch from end of stem and plunge into the soil up to the leaves. Very quick. Still dark here no sunrise till 8 15 so use this time watching and learning from your videos thanks aheap noel

    Self Sufficient Me, on TH-cam, has an entire garden setup of Birdie beds. The channel and bed's are both from Australia. He did a spiral in the circle and he grows everything under the sun in the tall rectangle ones. I'll see if I can find a link.

    I already have 3 of these, really nice, may have to order more???? Have you ever grown Hyacinth Bean Vine? They would be beautiful around your fence, I use them for a cut flowers, so pretty. The only draw back is they cling super well and can be a little tough taking off the fence. 😊

    I like the shallow one , that seems like a lot of dirt for other ones, and I wouldn't think annuals need that deep

    • @FlowerHillFarm
      @FlowerHillFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not a lot of dirt. The bottom is filled with wood scraps and wood chips. Only used compost for the top layer! It acts as natural organic matter and breaks down over the years.

    For beds that deep, root veg are the best. Beets, parsnips, carrots etc. it’s a waste for too growers.
