Man, I commented that maces was a strong start in the last video but I just played the game again last night for the first time in a long time and it has changed a lot. I could've sworn at one point you could use the shield and mace trees on one of the characters. The onslaught mace skill coupled with the shield guard skill made a great synergy between guarding, counter attack, and daze. I couldn't figure out how to make it work last night but I did have a strong start with with the sword and board.
From what I hear, maces are still insane and people on stream were discussing using 2x maces. A pro they mentioned is that now that hunting is more implemented, you don't damage pelts with maces, so you can kill animals with maces and make a lot of money selling the pelts!
@@DrIncompetent Oh, that's right, the pelts! Selling pelts seems like meta-maxing early game gold, since hunting animals is a great way to get xp rolling from level 1. I just saw a video where the guy, Neyreyan is his name, encountered the blacksmith selling mace training for 250 crowns. So maybe it is possible to play maiden knight with shield affinity and start with onslaught. I know at one point my most successful play through of this game was with a mace and shield, but I feel like I've been playing this game on and off for years and the developers just keep tweaking the systems and start instead of adding the content on the roadmap. This game's development has been... odd... it reminds me of The Isle, where early access success has almost put the goalposts further away, rather than closer. I just want it to get to the same point as like Qud or Quasimorph, where the start is perfect and they keep layering on the pizazz that makes a good game great.
