Oh I kind of trolled. For General Cry, the mana cost of the actual skill doesn't matter since you aren't the one using it. The mana cost would be from the Cry skill itself, which is 5 in this PoB. Doesn't make any difference in this case but just wanted to point out my mistake!
@@linemat7887 Mana cost on those is 0 in the PoB but ye, as mentioned, you need to go over the entire thing to make sure mana is figured out! Because lacking even a tiny bit of mana can make the whole playing experience extremely painful. It's not a hard thing to fix in the case that it happens but a build make should take it into consideration so the player has no need to worry about it
Something else people really need to understand is the builds are created by a specific person and are generally catered to their playstyle. For Example, Path of Matth is an incredibly skilled player. He can clear bosses in subpar gear without dying, meanwhile I have a ground degen on me for 2 seconds before I even realize it and start moving. Path of Maath creates builds that are really great for his playstyle and his skill level, and everything works for him flawlessly. When something is tanky, sure it can take a few hits as showcased in his videos, but they may not be so tanky that a player like myself can stand and facetank things for 2-3 seconds before I start moving. Other creators like hardcore players tend to have much more defense in their build and would only have a fraction of the dps a lot of glass cannon builds have. Likewise there are some all around creators that have more general focused builds, dabbling in defense and offense, striking a middle ground that works for them. The best advice you should ever need finding a build is to find a creator who fits your playstyle. I love Matth's builds, but I know myself and I can't play them. I need something that's much more forgiving for mispositioning and generally goofy thought processes. I then started using tanky and Hardcore builds and while I'm not clearing as fast, I feel much more comfortable playing those builds because they're simply more suited to my playstyle. Keep on being awesome y'all :)
That's very true and I should of mentioned that. I recorded this video a couple times and the first iteration I mentioned playstyle but the video was 1 hour long so I scratched it. Indeed, picking something that suits both your playstyle AND your goals is also very important!
@@pathofmatth Ya, I love miner builds, but damn near all of them are glass cannons especially Kayn's builds. I love icicle mine, but I have never seen one that has reasonable EH. All of these builds running around with 4k health with BotB and Farrul's. Some of these things look reasonable, then you find out these "budget" items are a few ex for each one, before you know it you're looking at a 20ex build that's "Budget" to him and more ex than I have ever made in a league for me.
What I want out of a league starter is a build that does one thing _really_ good for very cheap and does my strategy for that league well from the get go. Way too many people want builds that do everything not realizing you can make 100x more hyper focusing a strategy and then proceed to make a build that will do everything with the currency you just made.
Not only do they want a build to do everything they also want to change shit around that they don't like and still want the build to be good. The amount of non-sense I have seen this league of people asking if they can change this or that in a build, and ask if it'll still work, or can they level this way or that way. People want someone to do all the work for them then they want to be able to shuffle a bunch of shit around, and then, when it doesn't work they blame the content creator. Its insane.
Only if you plan on playing more than 1 characters. I’m 2 busy with Lost Ark and work so I’m looking for a build that can do everything well. So I settled on venom gyre deadeye. Amazing mapper and decent at bosses. If I feel like the dmg isn’t there on bosses then I can always respec into LS Raider since a lot of the gear will be reusable.
definetly agree with the expectations part of it, people want the world and more from a build that is only supposed to push you as far into the game as possible as cheap as possible. the tank and the insane damage only comes after you progressed and farmed your currency, you're not gonna get that as soon as you hit red maps
Couldn't agree with that more. With the new maven invitations and uber uber bosses the level what people think a leaguestarter is supposed to do on a 1ex budget just became completely unreasonable. I saw one braindead dude neglecting a build cause it was not capable of killing ubers, like how retarded is that.

Good video! I would add 1. preferably rare SSF gear and no uniques, unless they're cheap, but hard to tell this league 2. No cluster jewels, or 1 maximum and easily self crafted (never 3 mods, but 1 or 2 for medium/large cluster). Having to buy a 6-link is not a big deal, but you can also farm the cards yourself. I tried a lot of your builds and all of them have carried me to endgame ultra easy, but this league I'm gonna skip this miner cause I'm pretty burned of mines/traps playstyle, but people who trash talk about your builds just want to create drama, they are just clowns and deserve 0 attention. Started using PoM's builds 2-3 leagues ago and struggled in the beginning, because you really gotta know the mechanics and early mapping isn't as easy as he makes it look. But if you stay on it, don't blame the build, but try to adjust and improve your playstyle it will get better and better, it will be a good general learning experience and you'll have a lot of fun. The bossing guides really helped as well to step up my game! Those were my first 'real' leagues (harvest doesn't count) where I got enough currency to play 2-3 fully geared builds at 20-50ex each (before i made like 20ex in a whole league). Also the first leagues where i went from finally being able to kill Sirus at all, to consistently killing him to last league doing deathless Sirus carries. But, as someone mentioned in another comment, if you play a premade build and it doesn't feel right, even after adjusting, myb it contradicts your playstyle and just isn't for you. Then don't force it! It's still 'just' a game and games are supposed to be enjoyable :)

Cool video, I don't consider myself a part of any PoE community but I have followed one of your builds in the past and it was the most fun I ever had league starting so when I saw comments on reddit saying your build was clickbait etc I was curious why they thought that. I feel like this video gives good insight on the effort you put in to making sure its not.
it's crazy how this game make difficult to people that are not pros start with something man, i know Chris Wilson thinks it's good to make the game harder, but you get baited by builds made by theorycrafters with a lot of research and mechanics of the game just to get in to the game and the build sucks, and you will blame who? the guy that made the build with a lot of research and creativity or yourself that are 100% dependendent on other players that are infinitely better than you to get it right and the build to be a success, league starters are so stressfull for people that are semi-casuals, that are not good enough to make a tier S build for himself but don't want to start with something that can't get even to red maps without investment, great guide, really enjoy your content and what you do for the casual comunity (even if it's the casual community that blame you on league starter saying that your builds are bait)
Excellent video; giving people the tools need to evaluate builds and setting out assumptions / expectations is so much more effective than "x build sucks" or "y build is bait". Also really appreciate the section on checking the sources of the config settings and understanding where they do / don't come from in the build. I'd never appreciated how that can change for build levels and investment (e.g. if endurance charges are ticked b/c of an Enduring Composure Jewel, which isn't in a build till end game).
4-5 mil dps on a league starter? They expect that much dps on a league starter that will literally have tabula as one of the "best" items they will get in that scenario? You literally either have a really broken skill that everyone will be hyping up to play before it gets nerfed because it certainly deserves to get nerfed, like DD and Seismic as Matth stated or you have played one of these builds and think that every skill in the game performs like that.. Not every skill is equal. Because if that was the case, I would still like to league start my Lightning Tendrils character so I can fully roleplay as Sith Lord Palpatine but alas.. It just doesn't have enough dps to clear red maps reliably on a league start scenario.. Once you farm a couple of mirrors though, then you can turn any shitty build into a somewhat playable state.. But that's why you play a good league starter; to help you farm those mirrors faster.
I remember doing your seismic trap build in 3.17 it was a breeze everything felt so easy, i cleared sirius for the first time with 1 death, and did the pinnacle bosses :)
Im sorry that happend kinda sucks because all of us POE streamers should be doing everything to support each other or even the community in genral. we are all here for the same thing to have fun and play the game we all love.
Also PoB has a bug currently that when you have the "Include in Full DPS" box checked and disable the group, it still counts in the "Full DPS" so turn of full dps checkbox first, then disable
People need to understand that playstyle matters, immensely, my number one problem as a new player used to be just looking at the damage a build did, and try to copy it, just to realize that I absolutely could not play with the playstyle that the build wanted. I played a Lightning Strike Berserker once, and it was absolutely powerful as hell, but it was a button intensive character needing to manage damage boosting totems, dealing with lightning strike getting stuck on pebbles, needing the tribal fury point before getting strike gloves which wastes a ton of passive points, and then finally the nail in the coffin, timing warcrys with berserk over and over and over again constantly throughout maps and boss fights. It was a great build, but it was too button intensive for me. It was literally 2 more buttons than usual lmfao, but even that felt like too much. I just play builds that don't use Berserk anymore even with how insanely good it is.
PoM makes some awesome builds. He's a massive homie to the community in general as well. Guy spends his time getting the cheapest mirror services for the community/creating in depth farming strategy spreadsheets/creating powerful league starters with detailed guides every league. There's a lot of ego and lack of perspective coming from people in the HCSSF community lately. I could say a lot of stuff about it, but it's just controversy clicks and BS. Hopefully you don't let it get to you homie.
Having a good league start is dear to peoples heart because ultimately POE is about having fun, and not only is leaguestart a fun event socially, but it also sets the tone for the entire league. Having a great leaguestart can influence your progress for the following 2-3 months, and can make playing fun and smooth. Likewise, having a bad leaguestart can lead to people flat out quitting the league, or having an unfun experience until they've managed to grind out what they want. I haven't heard of any creators outright encouraging people to downvote, but I've seen plenty talk about what will be fun and what isn't going to be fun for the majority of people; what's bait. For example, builds specifically to heist are usually unfun for the vast majority of people. Dedicated heisters will always enjoy heisting and won't need a build guide, but releasing a leaguestart build guide aimed at people who are unsure or new players entirely will lead to them building to be a dedicated heister, which WILL result in people quitting out of frustration or boredom. And if people, entirely of their own volition, choose to downvote based on that viewpoint, that is entirely fair as long as they're doing it based on what they believe and not because someone told them to. Clickbait has always been an issue on the internet. And we've had content creators mislead or flat out lie about number figures to make their leaguestart builds look better in the past. POB warriors, and POB baiters are something to be wary of precisely because it can and has lead to people quitting leagues, or quitting the game altogether (especially new players). Streaming is a valid career in current year, and we find it unacceptable when games journalists or other career options mislead the people, and likewise we should. If you have the privilege of having an entire community be unconditionally supportive of you, access to knowledge and expertise from some of the top players in the game, free items and services if you want to take advantage of it, etc... you also have to take responsibility for if you mislead people. Baiting is a real problem, and people who do it (especially frequently) shoudl be criticized like anybody should be if they're misleading people. I think the way MBX does it is the best. He sets the expectation real low from the start; he always makes it clear that his builds require an insane amount of investment. He does his best not to mislead people into thinking they can make the build work. Whereas many other creators will say things like "oh this is top end gear, but really you could replace it with anything and it'll work" but then they showcase their build in a way that is extremely non-representative of what most people will be like with their hypothetical "replace it with anything" gear. Pohx also does a great job; when he showcases what a build will be like, he'll nerf his gear, remove bottled faith, unlink support gems, de-level skill gems to give a better picture of what the leaguestart version will look like. Some streamers flat out don't do that, because they're baiting their community. Drama is lame, but so are snake oil salesmen.
If someone quits the game because a content creator made a build guide that wasn't that great then honestly that's on them more than anything. Failing and learning is a core part of the POE experience and the current atmosphere of toxicity towards content creators stifles creativity and fosters elitism. Keep up the good content
I think its important to remember thst st any given moment, about 30% of the people playing the game are just playing the wrong game. They don't want to hammer out details of builds or approach things for themselves, they just want to follow a guide and brain-off cruise the game. Those people should leave, and if a buuld guide is what makes them quit... well... good riddance. Those were not the right people anyway.
I think it could be the catalyst for quitting. As in they try to make a build, they hit a wall. They google guides and find some videos that send them to RMT pages. They ask around in the community and pick a guide made by a streamer everyone seems to trust that looks cool to them. They then hit another wall when they can't quite transition from leveling to end game. Now none of this is the streamers fault or the players even. But the required knowledge to create a build, finesse an established build due to item restrictions or even adapt a solid build to your play style all takes time. PoE is a game where newbies can easily get stuck. Players should never take it out on a streamer though.
Just my two cents…. I tested and practiced with PoM’s EoW build and I just finished getting it passed getting into maps and took well into the 70’s for good measure. The build did everything PoM said it would do; it was easy peasy and smooth. Damage was there and surprisingly the defense layers were fine. I had an issue getting Righteous Fire to sustain and without its damage modifier in play it was still strong enough while I wasn’t able to run it. EoW will def make it to one of my builds I will def do over league of I happen not to run it for my LS.
It is out of hand how many people are calling out content creators. I really think what happens to people is what happens to me. You pull up a league starter POB. get to a certain point, think you have done it by the book, and find a wall. Instead of looking at what could be going wrong with your build in pob, they just blame the content creator. Once i started uploading my own build to compare notes I have been able to find my own deficit.

have this build been updated to 3.19? btw I've never played GC and now after this video I wanna leaguestart with it XD but kinda doubt bc of redblade price and much more bc of necessity of levelling with helix which is the worst skill in the entire game (totally inconvenient as for me) dunno maybe changing helix into some melee skill like Sweep is a good idea or not meh
Lol, there's a shit ton of bait builds and new faces, everyone makes mistakes but the people that we trust tend to point them out and raise their hand saying hold on I made a mistake... oh look, you made a perfect example for me :D - Some of the bait build creators however, do not, they just leave it and let people fail. The secret to longevity is honesty and humility. Thanks for the checklist, I've sent that to my missus, this will be her 2nd proper league and I'm training her up and she's doing good!
The only problem with price checking everything is that past prices does not indicate future prices. Since build hype / shared uniques with hyped builds play a LARGE effect in pricing. In addition to using any uniques which have since gotten reworked in the upcoming league.
It does give an idea though. You're right that an item can go from 10c to 100c given a rework or even just a simple hyped league starter, but if an item is constantly on the expensive side of things and is labelled as a mandatory item, it's something you should consider as a player. It doesn't mean the build is bad or not league start viable, but it does mean that it might be more aimed at the more experience player.
@@pathofmatth I dont remember if you have created a video on the topic before, but have you discussed how to find alternative uniques for builds? Like, for examples sake, what to use instead of Shavs or united in dream, etc. Trying to identify the core mod of what makes the item good and seeing if there are alternatives to use till you can afford / drop it.
@@Dx_Ach In more cases than not those items are core and what make the build function however. Like replacing shavs means you either go with a clunky flask setup or... Solaris Lorica? There's sadly items which are sort of "irreplaceable" in a PoB. Not always, but those items are typically what allow the build to function the way it's supposed to!
I do think that there needs to be individual responsibility as well. If you're completely new you can't be taking builds from jung, rue, or even Path of Matth. You need builds from people like Phox or Ziz that handhold and give simple builds with simple gear paths and mechanics. After that, its the player's fault if they dont know what a build is geared toward, such as most PoM builds sacrificing some tankiness for DPS. You cant follow the build and then complain that you can't facetank shaper slam.
Most often when someone tries a build and it fails, it’s usually the fault of the player. It took me a long time to realize that sometimes, even one or two seemingly minor compromises or personal preferences can drastically alter a build.
The first situation you mentioned hit me so hart, if theres a fucked up league start, I quit the game for the entirety of the league and watch content creators for that time. Thats why im so indecisive when it comes to my league starter..
This is such weird behavior. You can't just fix your shitty start and pivot to a build that is more tested? Really seems like people like this should go to other games, keeping them in the community is bad for everyone. They aren't happy playing under suboptimal circumstances and are completely reliant on other players to make decisions for them in a game that is about making decisions to remove suboptimal circumstances.
I expect my league starter to many things: - Clear t1-5 maps with only simple and quick couple of essence crafts and no poe trading needed for this. - DPS coming from gems and simple gear. Zero uniques required to suggested to not be gimped. They will come later. - Not be oneshotted from everything and their mother while doing so. Solid extra ammount directly from the build. - Decent mobility skill like whirling blades+flamedash. - The build must be easy to progress through yellow to red maps without struggles and 10-15+ div. It should be simple essence crafting and stuff through the league and if lucky you can snipe 1-2 better items early for cheap for CONVENIENCE AND QOL not to save your sinking ship. I avoid all content creators bait starters by simply watching what their fresh dinged characters can do once levelling is done and they checked resists & crafted an essence item or two. If it can barely to a t1 without risk of dying then I'm sorry but that is a garbage starter for most players. Great example this league is lightning strike which with just lightning essence craft claw, ailment essence craft shield and random life essence crafted gear steamrolls all white maps. Unless your league starters roughly equals this benchmark I judge it as bad. I need to quickly get into content that have larger chance for that first exalt and div to quickly get into abusing markets and get exp fast while not dying from farming 6h mindlessly. If I die 10 times during those 6 hours that is a lot of wasted time. Thus, defensive prowess and preferably INNATE IN THE BUILD is preferable. I wont have mageblood etc day 1.
Kinda off topic, but just curious, is ur General's Cry BF build a good league starter in 3.19, played this build for 2 leagues and was enjoying it. What are the nerfs and what would you change in this build for 3.19 ? An updated PoB for it would be amazing! Really appreciate all the work done for ur videos tho, keep up the good work!
@Path of Matth so here is the thing, in addition to the reason you mentioned in the intro GGG's Vision has been getting harder and harder and that's putting alot of strain on most build makers and content creators while spending more time in the league start is getting more and more rewarding and and this is causing toxicity because of 2 reasons. 1.the content creators now have to work even harder than they already did to make a league starter that can take people all the way to ubers and sadly not everyone makes the cut, so some have to resort to less than honest means to get their clicks, including using footage from very old leagues or having a "league starter" with lvl 85 clusters and a perfect timeless jewel and absolutely no levelling process or curve for the build, Which raises expectations waay too much. 2.add that to the fact that some content creators who specialize in 1 or 2 types of builds and refine them to the point that they are basically writing a dissertation, the increasing importance of league start and the standard for builds rises pretty quickly players are getting more and more frustrated, they need a scapegoat, and it's Much easier to point fingers at a person rather than at an entity (although reddit does both), add someone they can rally behind? and voila, you got yourself a perfect witch hunt and as you mentioned, while its understandable, i don't think the issue is with why they are doing it instead of how, calling out if shit isn't up to par is alright if not needed nowadays, being an absolute bag of dicks about it and riling their twitch minions (knowing full well what they will do) is another
I just want a build that I can scale and play the game. I did light strike SSF last league and it was a decent build. But I just don't know what to play since people just say righteous fire or light strike. Are there really only 2 builds in this game???
Dude, i've played your General's cry build 2 times (not as a league starter) and it was the first build i managed to kill Feared. It was awesome!! I added forbidden jewels too. But the point is ... if someone is SO stupid that he's unable to follow your instructions then fuck'em. It couldn't be easier. Don't let them get under your skin.
It sucks that you felt you had to make multiple videos defending the quality of your builds. They are consistently solid, tested, and realistic. Don't let people sow doubt in your mind.
It does however make me have even more respect for PoM than I already did. To put out your ideas and be able to systematically prove they're substantive and not bait is integrity you rarely find in people, let alone content creators.
I usally make build or at least redo the pob of a creator. It help me understand the build. This however takes time and people do not want or have the time for this.
+1 for the expectation part. theres also no shame in buying a carry for voidstones. for real, one of the four voidstones you may kill on your own, the other 3 you buy a carry for a total of like 120c. I used to leaguestart as group and we usually gear up 4 builds with chaos recepie in first 48 hours + buy a carry for voidstones before we can even start playing the game. everything comes with a downside, so do the leaguestarters.

Only thing that I would add is that maybe this league uniques will start at a higher price due to reduction in uniques drop rate. This is a great checklist!
I think people just don't understand how damage itself is a sort of defensive layer too. The less time things live around you, the fewer attacks they get off, it's also why chill effects are great, they add extra protection to your build. Now, are you gonna get one-shot by shit eventually because it's not TRUE defense? Yeah, but if you're playing SC, who gives a fuck? Also people just don't want the kind of builds they think they want. Take Fyre's TS build, for example. His build was made to farm maps very fast for very cheap in a league starter scenario. It was great at that, but it had to make defensive concessions and it also blundered the leveling setup. A lot of people focused more on those shitty extra leveling hours than on how well the build performed once it got online (and how quickly it got online if you knew how to make a bit of early league currency), and that's a fair criticism, but that does not a bad build make. It was just not a "stroll thru campaign and leisurely get to red maps" type of build.
So I'm thinking I'm going to start the Shield Skills Scion with the improved Hrimsorrow and the buffed unique shields (still not sure whats the best one), but after watching this I'm getting nervous about one thing: cost of the uniques. Belt of Deceiver and Princess I'm fairly confidant are gonna be cheap but IDK what to expect with Hrimsorrow and like Emperor's Vigilance. They're quite a bit stronger with the buffs but is that gonna drastically up the price even though not many will be using them?
Poe is like many communities in the world. There is a club and if your not part of it then your basically ignored or bullied out. Ultimately your content is fine imo. I will say your builds are SC trade and definitely require a good amount of game knowledge. Other content creators make builds that are more HC SSF and friendlier to new players. Regardless that just means your content is for different audiences . Keep doing you and don’t get baited by the club. And the club knows exactly who they are.

OK, lets talk about expectations I can see both ends from this discussion because i transitioned from a casual player into an actual try hard player in this last league (sentinel) The thing is: People with "regular" jobs (by regular i mean people who can't play POE as a job) don't have enough time to invest into a build, so what happens? The person is left with a choice: Either the build does enough damage but has a really bad play style (like a 2 button build) Or it has little to no defenses so it dies 3 times every map and that is REALLY frustrating Also, i feel like i need to point this out, but this casual players don't know enough about the game to actually make money, if the don't drop 3 exalts (or divines i guess) the simply don't have currency to upgrade anything So what is the result from this? Casual players will try to make a build work, they don't have time to invest into intensive farming, they don't know how to create currency in many ways, AND they don't have an all rounder build that can do all the game content with a 2~3 ex (ex / divine) budget so they just quit because the game is too hard, or too demanding, they never get to make a build that feels good to play Now, i understand that if the game is too easy, and builds can do all the game content in a 2 ex (divine whatever) budget, than the game will become boring and pointless to people who actually know how to make currency and will be done with the game 2 weeks into the league is it possible to balance the game for both types of players? i don't know, i'm just here to add some perspective to the issue
Remember, you have about 8 weeks or so to complete things before league *REALLY* slows down. So in that case, temper your expectations to do things slower.
@@Ilyak1986 i don't think you understand the point sir. What does 8 weeks mean? 8 weekends? like 16 days where the person will probably play 5~7 hours each day and take about 14 hours to reach maps? So, in the first 2 weeks the person is trying to reach maps, and then there are 6 more weekends to reach red maps and maybe start farming something this all considering there are no events on the weekend and the person actually gets to play that weekend of free time
If you want a good league start play something that you know how to play.. Let the streamers experiment with their crazy ideas. Most important is you're having fun. I dont think streamers should be held responsible for anything they put out as a content creator. Disclaimer or not. Unfamiliar with something. Don't play it or do your research like the rest of us who get to enjoy endgame. There is no hand holding in this game. Get good 👍 🙏
I know most of them. But it's thoughtful to list them out. And last part is very true. Those op builds will be nerf, but that's what we are all looking for, ha. Btw my standard is cheap and not too slow and close to 10m dps in very little investment.(do not have to be tanky). Almost end up to be miner, trap or minions though.
Nowdays I would say -60 chaos res is abit low? Since there is alot more chaos dmg after archnemesis. Sure it could be fine, but u will still die from it from time to time.
Every person has problems. Not being able to make a good build isn't your problem. It just someone certain being a closeted HC player. On sc whenever we get desired damage and defences it's MUCH better to go for speed (whenever it's ms for mapping or more dps for bossing) and other QoL stuff
i understand that general cry is very potent build, but i threw 150 ex at it last league, and didnt like it. just not my thing. It's like you do thing, do thing, then something happens and boss dies\phases in 0,5 seconds when all stars align. And it had been too squish compared to spell supression builds even with elemental ailment immunity. Had been fun experience, even though i didn't get omni in 300 runs. What i mean that build may be strong but it could be not your thing. Then i did spidermancer with squire and absolutely enjoyed the experience.
I'm still deciding what to league start. I'm hoping for something that can map and get the voidstones on day 1. Ill probably level something else for bossing.
Here's the thing noobs. You *CAN* have a build that can do everything at league start. It's just that it's probably not going to be *THE BEST* at everything. With the exception of the end-end-game content, fact of the matter is, about 90% of builds can do pretty much all content. The only caveat is that the build must be made with at least common sense, like not picking EB + CI. If you want to do a specific content no sweat, and you don't have much budget, then you're probably going need a specialized build. If you want YOUR build to do all content, then be prepared to spend a fuck ton of currency. And that's just that.
Someone could be struggling with 10ex in the bank saving up for mageblood or something crazy with an unfinished build. in the end its easier for these people to blame others, smh.
It depends entirely. There are MANY ways to scale defensive. The comment below saying 4.5k+ hp, capped suppression and 45k armour and evasion could be significantly squishier than a build with 3k hp with 40k evasion and ghost shrouds as well as 90 max res and a ton of phys taken as elemental. I don't think looking at individual numbers is the way to go, though it can help as a reference point. I would say for full deli maps and uber bosses you will want at least 100k EHP with a max hit taken of around 50k for phys, ele & chaos damage. This should be with only permanent defensive options on, which means no flask or anything that you don't ALWAYS have on. And then a BIG thing is recovery, some builds will easily reach 100k EHP and 100k max hits but they will severely lack in recovery, such as my own build actually. This can be a problem is situations where there are constant incoming damage on a character. In those cases, the builds can be quite strong and sturdy in a bossing scenario but will suffer in simulacrums or 100% deli maps. There's many things to consider but hopefully this gives you a bit of insight.
it varies man, u can have like 50k eva or armour and it still not be tanky. 80-100k ehp is good around level 90ish.., but u also want to look a the phys mitigation and elemental mitigation in the config. ive played builds with 3200 life and ive been super tanky. usually a build wants high ehp with 2+ soucrces recovery (regen + leech, etcc).. with some sort of phys mitigation (since most hits in the game are phys)

depends what interacts with that defensive layer. probably 100k+ is the area where you want your ehp to be. gotta look at elemental and chaos max hit aswell. but if lack critical hit mitigation and decreased curse effectiveness then you might as well have 50k ehp.
Hi matth, for your last part, would have been nice to say that any build can have high optimal dps, but only when you're able to DPS standing still on the boss, and not doing actual mechanics (ie, dodge cascade of pain, shaper beam, etc...). That's why dot pob tends to have lower dps, etc... :p Otherwise, thanks for the inquis version of EoW, was planning on starting this on sabo, guess i'm changing class :p !

I love this content thanks for the info. I did try explosive arrow in 318, could not get it over mid tier. Pivoted to minion build and it is the playstyle that is a bit to involved and arch. mods keeps me from wanting to stand still. I will try a proj. build another time :)
The only real build is tempest shield shock with galvanic shield and all the new reflect gear. (Brambklejack, thousand teeth temu, crown of te pale king)
First of all this comment is not against Matth or any individual content creator. It is just my general thoughts concerning these "league starter" controversies. I think that some of those "bad" creators who make "league starter" guides are either A) blatantly lying or B) they have played so long and are used to get tons of currency fast that they just don't remember or understand what struggles new players might have. In case A i just don't understand what you can possibly gain if you do that. No one wins if someone lying in a league starter guide. Player following it ruins hes league start and build creator ruins hes reputation. In B case i think things get more complicated. If you have like 10000+ hours in PoE and are used to get that week 1 HH or Mageblood or whatever i understand it can get very hard to put yourself in beginners shoes again. You are used to achieve something in first week of new league that someone who is watching your guide might not be able to achieve during whole league. Thats why it is so important to not over advertise and use those power words like "Best league starter" or "Can do all content in a budget" if that is not the case for most of your guide followers. Keep the expectations realistic and be honest so no one can ruin their league start by following unrealistic guide with awesome mirror tier gear gameplay in the backround. It is totally fine to say that your build can comfortably get you through yellow and red maps with very limited budget and get your currency farming going and then IF you want to push your build further you can start spending on this and that etc. And i think it is better to show gameplay in the backround that is with REALISTIC week 1 gear that new player might have. I understand that some creators are proud of their achievements and gear they managed to min/max etc. and wants to showcase their amazing character who destroys everything in seconds but i think it is false advertisement. It should NEVER be the first impressions new players gets when they open that video. Immediately when new players opens the video and sees how that build kills maven in 2 seconds he thinks "WOW I WANT THIS!!!!" and rest of the video he only remembers that how strong the character was in that video. And ofc he probably will never get to even half of that power and is disappointed. League starter should be a build that can get you STARTED and then maybe change to better one or keep investing more into that starter build and push it through all content. For example (and i try to keep this as vague as possible because i don't want to spread any hate) i watched one league starter video yesterday. It had probably every major red flags in it but new player might not know that. First of all it was advertised with these typical phrases like "Perfect starter build", "All content with a budget", tens of millions of damage etc. Then at the start and actually during most of the video in the backround it was showing how that build kills ubers in seconds and clears fully juiced content like it was nothing. It NEVER showed any video how it will do with actual budget gear. And then came the gear. It was full of these "You want this amazing thing in the end but before that you can use this and that or whatever". Best one was probably hes helmet. In the end you want this certain unique helmet with corrupted +1 power charges BUT until then you can use this cheap budget self crafted rare one. And the "cheap" helmet was dual influenced, combined with awakeners orb, cleaned, metacrafted and multimodded crazy item. I would estimate that this "cheap" helmet would probably take anything between 10-30ex to make or even more depending how lucky you get. This might be perfect example of case B creator. So experienced and used to get things done in week 1 that most can't do during 3 month league so he can't really get into the shoes of a new player. And don't get me wrong. That build looked amazing and i might even make something like that for my second or third build of the league where i dumb everything i have to that one build. It looked fun as hell and was great showcase of a build. But it was advertised as cheap perfect league starter that can clear all content with a budget and that is what ruins that whole video. And this was just one example and there is tons of these in youtube. Maybe not so extreme that has all the red flags but at least there are lots to improve in the ways people advertise and showcase their starter builds. Some creator heavily underestimate the power and influence of first impressions and advertisement tag lines in their videos. In many cases they start with the coolest and highest octane content and videos and end with leveling guides and low tier gear things. And it can be hard to get down from that first impression hype to realize that maybe i need to work very long and hard to get even close to that high end point. Or that i might never even get there. Sorry for the text wall but i think it is important what you and some other content creators do which is teach how to pick good starter builds and how to see through all that false advertisement BS. People out here actin like a league starter must be wave 30 and uber boss viable to not be "bait"....99% of players just want their league starter to be able to get them through the atlas with reasonable speed....
The real problem is most people are too stupid to understand the game and how it works. They blindly trust content creators to provide them answers. I can't count the number of comments on TH-cam or Twitch that could have simply been typed into the bar above, and the answer would have appeared on their screen. What's more strange are the content creators who take these people seriously instead of mocking them and treating them with contempt they deserve.
I've got a sneaking suspicion some content creators push certain builds because they know how to craft gear for it and then sell that gear anonymously to their fan base to make currency off them.

@@linemat7887 Mana cost on those is 0 in the PoB but ye, as mentioned, you need to go over the entire thing to make sure mana is figured out! Because lacking even a tiny bit of mana can make the whole playing experience extremely painful. It's not a hard thing to fix in the case that it happens but a build make should take it into consideration so the player has no need to worry about it

Something else people really need to understand is the builds are created by a specific person and are generally catered to their playstyle. For Example, Path of Matth is an incredibly skilled player. He can clear bosses in subpar gear without dying, meanwhile I have a ground degen on me for 2 seconds before I even realize it and start moving.
Path of Maath creates builds that are really great for his playstyle and his skill level, and everything works for him flawlessly. When something is tanky, sure it can take a few hits as showcased in his videos, but they may not be so tanky that a player like myself can stand and facetank things for 2-3 seconds before I start moving.
Other creators like hardcore players tend to have much more defense in their build and would only have a fraction of the dps a lot of glass cannon builds have. Likewise there are some all around creators that have more general focused builds, dabbling in defense and offense, striking a middle ground that works for them.
The best advice you should ever need finding a build is to find a creator who fits your playstyle. I love Matth's builds, but I know myself and I can't play them. I need something that's much more forgiving for mispositioning and generally goofy thought processes. I then started using tanky and Hardcore builds and while I'm not clearing as fast, I feel much more comfortable playing those builds because they're simply more suited to my playstyle.

@@pathofmatth Ya, I love miner builds, but damn near all of them are glass cannons especially Kayn's builds. I love icicle mine, but I have never seen one that has reasonable EH. All of these builds running around with 4k health with BotB and Farrul's. Some of these things look reasonable, then you find out these "budget" items are a few ex for each one, before you know it you're looking at a 20ex build that's "Budget" to him and more ex than I have ever made in a league for me.

What I want out of a league starter is a build that does one thing _really_ good for very cheap and does my strategy for that league well from the get go. Way too many people want builds that do everything not realizing you can make 100x more hyper focusing a strategy and then proceed to make a build that will do everything with the currency you just made.

Not only do they want a build to do everything they also want to change shit around that they don't like and still want the build to be good. The amount of non-sense I have seen this league of people asking if they can change this or that in a build, and ask if it'll still work, or can they level this way or that way. People want someone to do all the work for them then they want to be able to shuffle a bunch of shit around, and then, when it doesn't work they blame the content creator. Its insane.
Only if you plan on playing more than 1 characters. I’m 2 busy with Lost Ark and work so I’m looking for a build that can do everything well. So I settled on venom gyre deadeye. Amazing mapper and decent at bosses. If I feel like the dmg isn’t there on bosses then I can always respec into LS Raider since a lot of the gear will be reusable.
I hate leveling so much that I can only play 1 character per league.
definetly agree with the expectations part of it, people want the world and more from a build that is only supposed to push you as far into the game as possible as cheap as possible. the tank and the insane damage only comes after you progressed and farmed your currency, you're not gonna get that as soon as you hit red maps
Couldn't agree with that more. With the new maven invitations and uber uber bosses the level what people think a leaguestarter is supposed to do on a 1ex budget just became completely unreasonable. I saw one braindead dude neglecting a build cause it was not capable of killing ubers, like how retarded is that.

Good video! I would add 1. preferably rare SSF gear and no uniques, unless they're cheap, but hard to tell this league 2. No cluster jewels, or 1 maximum and easily self crafted (never 3 mods, but 1 or 2 for medium/large cluster). Having to buy a 6-link is not a big deal, but you can also farm the cards yourself. I tried a lot of your builds and all of them have carried me to endgame ultra easy, but this league I'm gonna skip this miner cause I'm pretty burned of mines/traps playstyle, but people who trash talk about your builds just want to create drama, they are just clowns and deserve 0 attention.

Started using PoM's builds 2-3 leagues ago and struggled in the beginning, because you really gotta know the mechanics and early mapping isn't as easy as he makes it look. But if you stay on it, don't blame the build, but try to adjust and improve your playstyle it will get better and better, it will be a good general learning experience and you'll have a lot of fun.
The bossing guides really helped as well to step up my game! Those were my first 'real' leagues (harvest doesn't count) where I got enough currency to play 2-3 fully geared builds at 20-50ex each (before i made like 20ex in a whole league). Also the first leagues where i went from finally being able to kill Sirus at all, to consistently killing him to last league doing deathless Sirus carries.
But, as someone mentioned in another comment, if you play a premade build and it doesn't feel right, even after adjusting, myb it contradicts your playstyle and just isn't for you. Then don't force it! It's still 'just' a game and games are supposed to be enjoyable :)

Cool video, I don't consider myself a part of any PoE community but I have followed one of your builds in the past and it was the most fun I ever had league starting so when I saw comments on reddit saying your build was clickbait etc I was curious why they thought that. I feel like this video gives good insight on the effort you put in to making sure its not.
it's crazy how this game make difficult to people that are not pros start with something man, i know Chris Wilson thinks it's good to make the game harder, but you get baited by builds made by theorycrafters with a lot of research and mechanics of the game just to get in to the game and the build sucks, and you will blame who? the guy that made the build with a lot of research and creativity or yourself that are 100% dependendent on other players that are infinitely better than you to get it right and the build to be a success, league starters are so stressfull for people that are semi-casuals, that are not good enough to make a tier S build for himself but don't want to start with something that can't get even to red maps without investment, great guide, really enjoy your content and what you do for the casual comunity (even if it's the casual community that blame you on league starter saying that your builds are bait)
Excellent video; giving people the tools need to evaluate builds and setting out assumptions / expectations is so much more effective than "x build sucks" or "y build is bait". Also really appreciate the section on checking the sources of the config settings and understanding where they do / don't come from in the build. I'd never appreciated how that can change for build levels and investment (e.g. if endurance charges are ticked b/c of an Enduring Composure Jewel, which isn't in a build till end game).
4-5 mil dps on a league starter? They expect that much dps on a league starter that will literally have tabula as one of the "best" items they will get in that scenario? You literally either have a really broken skill that everyone will be hyping up to play before it gets nerfed because it certainly deserves to get nerfed, like DD and Seismic as Matth stated or you have played one of these builds and think that every skill in the game performs like that.. Not every skill is equal. Because if that was the case, I would still like to league start my Lightning Tendrils character so I can fully roleplay as Sith Lord Palpatine but alas.. It just doesn't have enough dps to clear red maps reliably on a league start scenario.. Once you farm a couple of mirrors though, then you can turn any shitty build into a somewhat playable state.. But that's why you play a good league starter; to help you farm those mirrors faster.

I remember doing your seismic trap build in 3.17 it was a breeze everything felt so easy, i cleared sirius for the first time with 1 death, and did the pinnacle bosses :)

People need to understand that playstyle matters, immensely, my number one problem as a new player used to be just looking at the damage a build did, and try to copy it, just to realize that I absolutely could not play with the playstyle that the build wanted. I played a Lightning Strike Berserker once, and it was absolutely powerful as hell, but it was a button intensive character needing to manage damage boosting totems, dealing with lightning strike getting stuck on pebbles, needing the tribal fury point before getting strike gloves which wastes a ton of passive points, and then finally the nail in the coffin, timing warcrys with berserk over and over and over again constantly throughout maps and boss fights. It was a great build, but it was too button intensive for me. It was literally 2 more buttons than usual lmfao, but even that felt like too much. I just play builds that don't use Berserk anymore even with how insanely good it is.

PoM makes some awesome builds. He's a massive homie to the community in general as well. Guy spends his time getting the cheapest mirror services for the community/creating in depth farming strategy spreadsheets/creating powerful league starters with detailed guides every league.
There's a lot of ego and lack of perspective coming from people in the HCSSF community lately. I could say a lot of stuff about it, but it's just controversy clicks and BS. Hopefully you don't let it get to you homie.
Having a good league start is dear to peoples heart because ultimately POE is about having fun, and not only is leaguestart a fun event socially, but it also sets the tone for the entire league. Having a great leaguestart can influence your progress for the following 2-3 months, and can make playing fun and smooth. Likewise, having a bad leaguestart can lead to people flat out quitting the league, or having an unfun experience until they've managed to grind out what they want.
I haven't heard of any creators outright encouraging people to downvote, but I've seen plenty talk about what will be fun and what isn't going to be fun for the majority of people; what's bait. For example, builds specifically to heist are usually unfun for the vast majority of people. Dedicated heisters will always enjoy heisting and won't need a build guide, but releasing a leaguestart build guide aimed at people who are unsure or new players entirely will lead to them building to be a dedicated heister, which WILL result in people quitting out of frustration or boredom. And if people, entirely of their own volition, choose to downvote based on that viewpoint, that is entirely fair as long as they're doing it based on what they believe and not because someone told them to.
Clickbait has always been an issue on the internet. And we've had content creators mislead or flat out lie about number figures to make their leaguestart builds look better in the past. POB warriors, and POB baiters are something to be wary of precisely because it can and has lead to people quitting leagues, or quitting the game altogether (especially new players). Streaming is a valid career in current year, and we find it unacceptable when games journalists or other career options mislead the people, and likewise we should. If you have the privilege of having an entire community be unconditionally supportive of you, access to knowledge and expertise from some of the top players in the game, free items and services if you want to take advantage of it, etc... you also have to take responsibility for if you mislead people. Baiting is a real problem, and people who do it (especially frequently) shoudl be criticized like anybody should be if they're misleading people.
I think the way MBX does it is the best. He sets the expectation real low from the start; he always makes it clear that his builds require an insane amount of investment. He does his best not to mislead people into thinking they can make the build work. Whereas many other creators will say things like "oh this is top end gear, but really you could replace it with anything and it'll work" but then they showcase their build in a way that is extremely non-representative of what most people will be like with their hypothetical "replace it with anything" gear. Pohx also does a great job; when he showcases what a build will be like, he'll nerf his gear, remove bottled faith, unlink support gems, de-level skill gems to give a better picture of what the leaguestart version will look like. Some streamers flat out don't do that, because they're baiting their community. Drama is lame, but so are snake oil salesmen.
If someone quits the game because a content creator made a build guide that wasn't that great then honestly that's on them more than anything. Failing and learning is a core part of the POE experience and the current atmosphere of toxicity towards content creators stifles creativity and fosters elitism.
Keep up the good content
I think its important to remember thst st any given moment, about 30% of the people playing the game are just playing the wrong game. They don't want to hammer out details of builds or approach things for themselves, they just want to follow a guide and brain-off cruise the game. Those people should leave, and if a buuld guide is what makes them quit... well... good riddance. Those were not the right people anyway.
I think it could be the catalyst for quitting. As in they try to make a build, they hit a wall. They google guides and find some videos that send them to RMT pages. They ask around in the community and pick a guide made by a streamer everyone seems to trust that looks cool to them. They then hit another wall when they can't quite transition from leveling to end game.
Now none of this is the streamers fault or the players even. But the required knowledge to create a build, finesse an established build due to item restrictions or even adapt a solid build to your play style all takes time. PoE is a game where newbies can easily get stuck. Players should never take it out on a streamer though.

Just my two cents….
I tested and practiced with PoM’s EoW build and I just finished getting it passed getting into maps and took well into the 70’s for good measure.
The build did everything PoM said it would do; it was easy peasy and smooth. Damage was there and surprisingly the defense layers were fine. I had an issue getting Righteous Fire to sustain and without its damage modifier in play it was still strong enough while I wasn’t able to run it.
EoW will def make it to one of my builds I will def do over league of I happen not to run it for my LS.
Quick note, Coil will be quite expensive to have good rolls in this new divine environment
While I mostly agree, keep in mind that there is a farmable divination card for coil now (card name - Offspring).
It is out of hand how many people are calling out content creators. I really think what happens to people is what happens to me.
You pull up a league starter POB. get to a certain point, think you have done it by the book, and find a wall. Instead of looking at what could be going wrong with your build in pob, they just blame the content creator. Once i started uploading my own build to compare notes I have been able to find my own deficit.

have this build been updated to 3.19? btw I've never played GC and now after this video I wanna leaguestart with it XD but kinda doubt bc of redblade price and much more bc of necessity of levelling with helix which is the worst skill in the entire game (totally inconvenient as for me) dunno maybe changing helix into some melee skill like Sweep is a good idea or not meh
Lol, there's a shit ton of bait builds and new faces, everyone makes mistakes but the people that we trust tend to point them out and raise their hand saying hold on I made a mistake... oh look, you made a perfect example for me :D - Some of the bait build creators however, do not, they just leave it and let people fail. The secret to longevity is honesty and humility. Thanks for the checklist, I've sent that to my missus, this will be her 2nd proper league and I'm training her up and she's doing good!
The only problem with price checking everything is that past prices does not indicate future prices. Since build hype / shared uniques with hyped builds play a LARGE effect in pricing. In addition to using any uniques which have since gotten reworked in the upcoming league.
It does give an idea though. You're right that an item can go from 10c to 100c given a rework or even just a simple hyped league starter, but if an item is constantly on the expensive side of things and is labelled as a mandatory item, it's something you should consider as a player. It doesn't mean the build is bad or not league start viable, but it does mean that it might be more aimed at the more experience player.
@@pathofmatth I dont remember if you have created a video on the topic before, but have you discussed how to find alternative uniques for builds? Like, for examples sake, what to use instead of Shavs or united in dream, etc. Trying to identify the core mod of what makes the item good and seeing if there are alternatives to use till you can afford / drop it.
@@Dx_Ach In more cases than not those items are core and what make the build function however. Like replacing shavs means you either go with a clunky flask setup or... Solaris Lorica? There's sadly items which are sort of "irreplaceable" in a PoB. Not always, but those items are typically what allow the build to function the way it's supposed to!
I do think that there needs to be individual responsibility as well. If you're completely new you can't be taking builds from jung, rue, or even Path of Matth. You need builds from people like Phox or Ziz that handhold and give simple builds with simple gear paths and mechanics. After that, its the player's fault if they dont know what a build is geared toward, such as most PoM builds sacrificing some tankiness for DPS. You cant follow the build and then complain that you can't facetank shaper slam.

Most often when someone tries a build and it fails, it’s usually the fault of the player.
It took me a long time to realize that sometimes, even one or two seemingly minor compromises or personal preferences can drastically alter a build.
Love your videos, even though I don't use 90% of your high quality tips/tricks. Oh and the crafting vids are my favorite. Good luck this league.

The first situation you mentioned hit me so hart, if theres a fucked up league start, I quit the game for the entirety of the league and watch content creators for that time. Thats why im so indecisive when it comes to my league starter..
This is such weird behavior. You can't just fix your shitty start and pivot to a build that is more tested? Really seems like people like this should go to other games, keeping them in the community is bad for everyone. They aren't happy playing under suboptimal circumstances and are completely reliant on other players to make decisions for them in a game that is about making decisions to remove suboptimal circumstances.
I expect my league starter to many things:
- Clear t1-5 maps with only simple and quick couple of essence crafts and no poe trading needed for this.
- DPS coming from gems and simple gear. Zero uniques required to suggested to not be gimped. They will come later.
- Not be oneshotted from everything and their mother while doing so. Solid extra ammount directly from the build.
- Decent mobility skill like whirling blades+flamedash.
- The build must be easy to progress through yellow to red maps without struggles and 10-15+ div. It should be simple essence crafting and stuff through the league and if lucky you can snipe 1-2 better items early for cheap for CONVENIENCE AND QOL not to save your sinking ship. I avoid all content creators bait starters by simply watching what their fresh dinged characters can do once levelling is done and they checked resists & crafted an essence item or two. If it can barely to a t1 without risk of dying then I'm sorry but that is a garbage starter for most players.
Great example this league is lightning strike which with just lightning essence craft claw, ailment essence craft shield and random life essence crafted gear steamrolls all white maps. Unless your league starters roughly equals this benchmark I judge it as bad. I need to quickly get into content that have larger chance for that first exalt and div to quickly get into abusing markets and get exp fast while not dying from farming 6h mindlessly. If I die 10 times during those 6 hours that is a lot of wasted time. Thus, defensive prowess and preferably INNATE IN THE BUILD is preferable. I wont have mageblood etc day 1.
Kinda off topic, but just curious, is ur General's Cry BF build a good league starter in 3.19, played this build for 2 leagues and was enjoying it. What are the nerfs and what would you change in this build for 3.19 ? An updated PoB for it would be amazing!

so here is the thing,
in addition to the reason you mentioned in the intro
GGG's Vision has been getting harder and harder and that's putting alot of strain on most build makers and content creators while spending more time in the league start is getting more and more rewarding and and this is causing toxicity because of 2 reasons.
1.the content creators now have to work even harder than they already did to make a league starter that can take people all the way to ubers and sadly not everyone makes the cut, so some have to resort to less than honest means to get their clicks, including using footage from very old leagues or having a "league starter" with lvl 85 clusters and a perfect timeless jewel and absolutely no levelling process or curve for the build, Which raises expectations waay too much.
2.add that to the fact that some content creators who specialize in 1 or 2 types of builds and refine them to the point that they are basically writing a dissertation, the increasing importance of league start and the standard for builds rises pretty quickly
players are getting more and more frustrated, they need a scapegoat, and it's Much easier to point fingers at a person rather than at an entity (although reddit does both), add someone they can rally behind? and voila, you got yourself a perfect witch hunt
and as you mentioned, while its understandable, i don't think the issue is with why they are doing it instead of how, calling out if shit isn't up to par is alright if not needed nowadays, being an absolute bag of dicks about it and riling their twitch minions (knowing full well what they will do) is another

I did light strike SSF last league and it was a decent build. But I just don't know what to play since people just say righteous fire or light strike. Are there really only 2 builds in this game???

Dude, i've played your General's cry build 2 times (not as a league starter) and it was the first build i managed to kill Feared. It was awesome!! I added forbidden jewels too. But the point is ... if someone is SO stupid that he's unable to follow your instructions then fuck'em. It couldn't be easier. Don't let them get under your skin.
It sucks that you felt you had to make multiple videos defending the quality of your builds. They are consistently solid, tested, and realistic. Don't let people sow doubt in your mind.
It does however make me have even more respect for PoM than I already did.
To put out your ideas and be able to systematically prove they're substantive and not bait is integrity you rarely find in people, let alone content creators.

I usally make build or at least redo the pob of a creator. It help me understand the build. This however takes time and people do not want or have the time for this.
+1 for the expectation part. theres also no shame in buying a carry for voidstones. for real, one of the four voidstones you may kill on your own, the other 3 you buy a carry for a total of like 120c. I used to leaguestart as group and we usually gear up 4 builds with chaos recepie in first 48 hours + buy a carry for voidstones before we can even start playing the game. everything comes with a downside, so do the leaguestarters.

What about playstyle? Imo, having to press 5 buttons every other second just to get a build going is a showstopper especially for a starter
Only thing that I would add is that maybe this league uniques will start at a higher price due to reduction in uniques drop rate. This is a great checklist!
I think people just don't understand how damage itself is a sort of defensive layer too. The less time things live around you, the fewer attacks they get off, it's also why chill effects are great, they add extra protection to your build. Now, are you gonna get one-shot by shit eventually because it's not TRUE defense? Yeah, but if you're playing SC, who gives a fuck?
Also people just don't want the kind of builds they think they want. Take Fyre's TS build, for example. His build was made to farm maps very fast for very cheap in a league starter scenario. It was great at that, but it had to make defensive concessions and it also blundered the leveling setup. A lot of people focused more on those shitty extra leveling hours than on how well the build performed once it got online (and how quickly it got online if you knew how to make a bit of early league currency), and that's a fair criticism, but that does not a bad build make. It was just not a "stroll thru campaign and leisurely get to red maps" type of build.
So I'm thinking I'm going to start the Shield Skills Scion with the improved Hrimsorrow and the buffed unique shields (still not sure whats the best one), but after watching this I'm getting nervous about one thing: cost of the uniques. Belt of Deceiver and Princess I'm fairly confidant are gonna be cheap but IDK what to expect with Hrimsorrow and like Emperor's Vigilance. They're quite a bit stronger with the buffs but is that gonna drastically up the price even though not many will be using them?

Hyrri's is losing the flat cold and phys, it's not losing the precision RMR or even the lvl 22 precision.
Poe is like many communities in the world. There is a club and if your not part of it then your basically ignored or bullied out. Ultimately your content is fine imo. I will say your builds are SC trade and definitely require a good amount of game knowledge. Other content creators make builds that are more HC SSF and friendlier to new players. Regardless that just means your content is for different audiences . Keep doing you and don’t get baited by the club. And the club knows exactly who they are.

OK, lets talk about expectations
I can see both ends from this discussion because i transitioned from a casual player into an actual try hard player in this last league (sentinel)
The thing is: People with "regular" jobs (by regular i mean people who can't play POE as a job) don't have enough time to invest into a build, so what happens?
The person is left with a choice:
Either the build does enough damage but has a really bad play style (like a 2 button build)
Or it has little to no defenses so it dies 3 times every map and that is REALLY frustrating
Also, i feel like i need to point this out, but this casual players don't know enough about the game to actually make money, if the don't drop 3 exalts (or divines i guess) the simply don't have currency to upgrade anything
So what is the result from this?
Casual players will try to make a build work, they don't have time to invest into intensive farming, they don't know how to create currency in many ways, AND they don't have an all rounder build that can do all the game content with a 2~3 ex (ex / divine) budget
so they just quit because the game is too hard, or too demanding, they never get to make a build that feels good to play
Now, i understand that if the game is too easy, and builds can do all the game content in a 2 ex (divine whatever) budget, than the game will become boring and pointless to people who actually know how to make currency and will be done with the game 2 weeks into the league
is it possible to balance the game for both types of players? i don't know, i'm just here to add some perspective to the issue
Remember, you have about 8 weeks or so to complete things before league *REALLY* slows down. So in that case, temper your expectations to do things slower.
@@Ilyak1986 i don't think you understand the point sir. What does 8 weeks mean? 8 weekends? like 16 days where the person will probably play 5~7 hours each day and take about 14 hours to reach maps?
So, in the first 2 weeks the person is trying to reach maps, and then there are 6 more weekends to reach red maps and maybe start farming something
this all considering there are no events on the weekend and the person actually gets to play that weekend of free time

If you want a good league start play something that you know how to play.. Let the streamers experiment with their crazy ideas. Most important is you're having fun. I dont think streamers should be held responsible for anything they put out as a content creator. Disclaimer or not. Unfamiliar with something. Don't play it or do your research like the rest of us who get to enjoy endgame. There is no hand holding in this game. Get good 👍 🙏
I go for Holy Flame Totem as start and 3-4 days in i switch to ball light totems until i farmed omni for ts

Nowdays I would say -60 chaos res is abit low? Since there is alot more chaos dmg after archnemesis. Sure it could be fine, but u will still die from it from time to time.
I did this on Matth's eye of winter miner, lvl 91, 32k EHP but only 9lk phy max hit.

On sc whenever we get desired damage and defences it's MUCH better to go for speed (whenever it's ms for mapping or more dps for bossing) and other QoL stuff

i understand that general cry is very potent build, but i threw 150 ex at it last league, and didnt like it. just not my thing. It's like you do thing, do thing, then something happens and boss dies\phases in 0,5 seconds when all stars align. And it had been too squish compared to spell supression builds even with elemental ailment immunity. Had been fun experience, even though i didn't get omni in 300 runs. What i mean that build may be strong but it could be not your thing. Then i did spidermancer with squire and absolutely enjoyed the experience.

I mean, we have realistic expectations. All we're asking for in a starter is to kill all uber bosses and farm 100% deli on a 10c budget.
Here's the thing noobs. You *CAN* have a build that can do everything at league start.
It's just that it's probably not going to be *THE BEST* at everything.
With the exception of the end-end-game content, fact of the matter is, about 90% of builds can do pretty much all content.
The only caveat is that the build must be made with at least common sense, like not picking EB + CI.
If you want to do a specific content no sweat, and you don't have much budget, then you're probably going need a specialized build.
If you want YOUR build to do all content, then be prepared to spend a fuck ton of currency.
And that's just that.

How much eHP in PoB is good for endgame? I mean full deli maps and uber bosses and stuff like that
45k+ evasion&armour + suppresion100% + RES capped + 4500HP+ , this is good.
It depends entirely. There are MANY ways to scale defensive. The comment below saying 4.5k+ hp, capped suppression and 45k armour and evasion could be significantly squishier than a build with 3k hp with 40k evasion and ghost shrouds as well as 90 max res and a ton of phys taken as elemental.
I don't think looking at individual numbers is the way to go, though it can help as a reference point.
I would say for full deli maps and uber bosses you will want at least 100k EHP with a max hit taken of around 50k for phys, ele & chaos damage.
This should be with only permanent defensive options on, which means no flask or anything that you don't ALWAYS have on.
And then a BIG thing is recovery, some builds will easily reach 100k EHP and 100k max hits but they will severely lack in recovery, such as my own build actually. This can be a problem is situations where there are constant incoming damage on a character. In those cases, the builds can be quite strong and sturdy in a bossing scenario but will suffer in simulacrums or 100% deli maps.
There's many things to consider but hopefully this gives you a bit of insight.
it varies man, u can have like 50k eva or armour and it still not be tanky. 80-100k ehp is good around level 90ish.., but u also want to look a the phys mitigation and elemental mitigation in the config. ive played builds with 3200 life and ive been super tanky. usually a build wants high ehp with 2+ soucrces recovery (regen + leech, etcc).. with some sort of phys mitigation (since most hits in the game are phys)

depends what interacts with that defensive layer. probably 100k+ is the area where you want your ehp to be.
gotta look at elemental and chaos max hit aswell.
but if lack critical hit mitigation and decreased curse effectiveness then you might as well have 50k ehp.
This league is kind of an exception, because the uniques are completely blank slate on the price.
Hi matth, for your last part, would have been nice to say that any build can have high optimal dps, but only when you're able to DPS standing still on the boss, and not doing actual mechanics (ie, dodge cascade of pain, shaper beam, etc...). That's why dot pob tends to have lower dps, etc... :p Otherwise, thanks for the inquis version of EoW, was planning on starting this on sabo, guess i'm changing class :p !

I love this content thanks for the info. I did try explosive arrow in 318, could not get it over mid tier. Pivoted to minion build and it is the playstyle that is a bit to involved and arch. mods keeps me from wanting to stand still. I will try a proj. build another time :)
The only real build is tempest shield shock with galvanic shield and all the new reflect gear. (Brambklejack, thousand teeth temu, crown of te pale king)

First of all this comment is not against Matth or any individual content creator. It is just my general thoughts concerning these "league starter" controversies.
I think that some of those "bad" creators who make "league starter" guides are either A) blatantly lying or B) they have played so long and are used to get tons of currency fast that they just don't remember or understand what struggles new players might have.
In case A i just don't understand what you can possibly gain if you do that. No one wins if someone lying in a league starter guide. Player following it ruins hes league start and build creator ruins hes reputation.
In B case i think things get more complicated. If you have like 10000+ hours in PoE and are used to get that week 1 HH or Mageblood or whatever i understand it can get very hard to put yourself in beginners shoes again. You are used to achieve something in first week of new league that someone who is watching your guide might not be able to achieve during whole league. Thats why it is so important to not over advertise and use those power words like "Best league starter" or "Can do all content in a budget" if that is not the case for most of your guide followers. Keep the expectations realistic and be honest so no one can ruin their league start by following unrealistic guide with awesome mirror tier gear gameplay in the backround. It is totally fine to say that your build can comfortably get you through yellow and red maps with very limited budget and get your currency farming going and then IF you want to push your build further you can start spending on this and that etc. And i think it is better to show gameplay in the backround that is with REALISTIC week 1 gear that new player might have. I understand that some creators are proud of their achievements and gear they managed to min/max etc. and wants to showcase their amazing character who destroys everything in seconds but i think it is false advertisement. It should NEVER be the first impressions new players gets when they open that video. Immediately when new players opens the video and sees how that build kills maven in 2 seconds he thinks "WOW I WANT THIS!!!!" and rest of the video he only remembers that how strong the character was in that video. And ofc he probably will never get to even half of that power and is disappointed. League starter should be a build that can get you STARTED and then maybe change to better one or keep investing more into that starter build and push it through all content.
For example (and i try to keep this as vague as possible because i don't want to spread any hate) i watched one league starter video yesterday. It had probably every major red flags in it but new player might not know that. First of all it was advertised with these typical phrases like "Perfect starter build", "All content with a budget", tens of millions of damage etc. Then at the start and actually during most of the video in the backround it was showing how that build kills ubers in seconds and clears fully juiced content like it was nothing. It NEVER showed any video how it will do with actual budget gear. And then came the gear. It was full of these "You want this amazing thing in the end but before that you can use this and that or whatever". Best one was probably hes helmet. In the end you want this certain unique helmet with corrupted +1 power charges BUT until then you can use this cheap budget self crafted rare one. And the "cheap" helmet was dual influenced, combined with awakeners orb, cleaned, metacrafted and multimodded crazy item. I would estimate that this "cheap" helmet would probably take anything between 10-30ex to make or even more depending how lucky you get. This might be perfect example of case B creator. So experienced and used to get things done in week 1 that most can't do during 3 month league so he can't really get into the shoes of a new player.
And don't get me wrong. That build looked amazing and i might even make something like that for my second or third build of the league where i dumb everything i have to that one build. It looked fun as hell and was great showcase of a build. But it was advertised as cheap perfect league starter that can clear all content with a budget and that is what ruins that whole video. And this was just one example and there is tons of these in youtube. Maybe not so extreme that has all the red flags but at least there are lots to improve in the ways people advertise and showcase their starter builds.
Some creator heavily underestimate the power and influence of first impressions and advertisement tag lines in their videos. In many cases they start with the coolest and highest octane content and videos and end with leveling guides and low tier gear things. And it can be hard to get down from that first impression hype to realize that maybe i need to work very long and hard to get even close to that high end point. Or that i might never even get there.
Sorry for the text wall but i think it is important what you and some other content creators do which is teach how to pick good starter builds and how to see through all that false advertisement BS. Thanks for the good video and keep up the good work Matth :)
Just letting you know I read your entire comment and indeed I think you're absolutely right.
People out here actin like a league starter must be wave 30 and uber boss viable to not be "bait"....99% of players just want their league starter to be able to get them through the atlas with reasonable speed....
The real problem is most people are too stupid to understand the game and how it works. They blindly trust content creators to provide them answers. I can't count the number of comments on TH-cam or Twitch that could have simply been typed into the bar above, and the answer would have appeared on their screen. What's more strange are the content creators who take these people seriously instead of mocking them and treating them with contempt they deserve.
I've got a sneaking suspicion some content creators push certain builds because they know how to craft gear for it and then sell that gear anonymously to their fan base to make currency off them.
