    If there was something in it would you be able to drink it or would it kill you just asking

    • @devenishwines6308
      @devenishwines6308  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could definitely drink it. It might not taste so good..... in reality wood breathes so you have to constantly top up a barrel with more wine (or beer or scotch or whatever is in it) so that it stays full. If you let too much evaporate out through the wood then the air that fills the space lets other bacteria grow. That's actually how sherry is made. But assuming the wine was 150 years old and hadn't evaporated for some reason it still probably wouldn't taste so good. Wine is a heterogeneous mixture, meaning it is a bunch of different things mixed up together and given enough time they will all separate according to their own specific gravity. So the sediment that provides all the color would all settle to the bottom, then you'd have a bunch of water, and floating above that on top of the water you would have the alcohol. That's what happens in a bottle over a super long time. The point of this video was that seeing a barrel that was constructed before internal combustion engines were around still being put to use making wine each year is pretty amazing and rare.

      That is true, but they must have used something like it. Maybe beeswax, or pitch with horse hair or straw. It's super similar to wooden boats: They'd dry out if you had to haul them out of the water and the wood would shrink. before you put a small wooden boat back in the water people would sometimes fill it with seawater so the planks would expand again and make it water tight

      The barrel is 150 years old. It's been used for making wine for 150 years. So it has a unique culture of bacteria in it now that help make the wines that are aged in it each year

      This is a 150 year old barrel that's still in use! That's crazy! What equipment do you use that's 150 years old?

    No. 1 fake story

    • @devenishwines6308

      Is this not about a 150 year old barrel that is still in use? A 150 year old barrel that is practically a living thing that has it's own environment in it? Was the video in fact about a Giraffe who collects baseball cards? Was the video about recycling E waste? No, the video was in fact a documentary style video about opening and maintaining a 150 year old barrel. The only thing fake here is your outrage
