This may sound weird, but it's actually really nice to see someone who does TH-cam videos with actual weeds in their Gardens I know no one wants to show that but it makes it seemed a little bit more normal. The reality is a lot of us aren't weed Free.
The real issue, here in VA, is lack of rain. Lots of plants on sprinklers aren’t getting enough water. Water is very expensive and even watering for ten minutes is lost when the ground is so dry to begin with.
I feel for ya without the mulch. ❤ Next time you’re in a pinch, perhaps you can have compost delivered? I do wonder Matthew, where those drip lines are hooked up? Do you have to go over or under the sidewalk? Do you have perennials that are so drought tolerant, that you don’t have to have on drip on them? Good luck 👍 It was fun seeing you at the rose farm!
I could only find yellow verbena. Even though I do love yellow I wanted multiple colors. Yours is stunning. Garden is looking so beautiful. The pool containers are a great choice and gorgeous. The cool colors around the pool is perfection.
Omg , Matthew, your containers are gorgeous, I wish I had drip irrigation, it makes a big difference in what we grow in our gardens , I’m so tired schlepping watering can after watering can to my plants in this heat . Things are really coming along in your landscape
Hi Matthew! Your flowers are looking so beautiful, and the containers, OMGolly! I'm glad that you are so happy about how everything is growing and filling in the way you wanted it to. I can't get over how fast the heuchera river is growing, and everything else. Thank you so much for sharing!
❤❤❤ Thank you for keeping us up to date as your plants grow, spread out and how they handle this heat! So many people are coming into my store asking about drip and plants that I feel confident giving your TH-cam channel and advice from it. THANK YOU!!!
Your pool plantings are stunning Mathew! A hedge of hydrangeas 🫠!! I’m seeing your vision . Glad more gardeners are being cautious in extreme heat 🥵. 🌱Stay hydrated garden friends. 🌱Avoid heat peak hours of heat. 👨🏻🌾👩🌾👒🧢🕶️🫗 Have a great safe 4th of July 🇺🇸!
The garden is growing in so beautifully and the blooms are so lovely. Perhaps we should be grateful for the heat wave, at least for you. 😅 Realizing the garden will only get better as the summer continues, I share your excitement at how quickly the garden areas have grown in. So much accomplished is a few short months. Well done!
Wow, your new garden is coming along so beautifully, especially in this miserable heat we are having!! You should consider a lavender twist redbud to replace that Japanese maple. It stays smaller in height so it won't overtake the area. I'm looking forward to watching your garden mature, it's so inspiring!! Thanks for sharing.
I feel your pain about dealing with the crabgrass and the weeds. The heat wave is brutal but hopefully in the next little bit it will pass and allow us out in the garden more. Things are really looking good especially the hydrangea hedge! And those containers...wow!
We're right there with you in this heat wave, here in Southern Indiana. Like you, our irrigation is what's saving the day. Your gardens have really come along and everything is looking so pretty! Love all the colors!
Matthew, thanks for the tour, but if I were you, I would have put up the drone and said, Look at my flowers, I'm staying in the pool!! I wanted to jump in myself!😂
Well done. Looks great and we all get how weeds get ahead when we are away. The all native beds in our central Ohio are not on irrigation. They have totally shrugged off the heat. Pretty surprised the Nativars have also come thru unfazed. As for the mixed gardens with more traditional non natives are struggling even with irrigation.
OMGoodness Matthew!!That container with the Large Lilac Blue Superbena, Snow Princess Sweet Alyssum & Truffula Pink Gomphrena…it is absolutely stunning! ✨✨✨ How many of each plant did you use? Would love to try it myself next Spring. 😊
My Chitalpa El Ninio just bloomed today. I was worried they didn't make it, but all three came back. Loved them so much last year. I am in 6B/7A Boise Idaho. The Pearl Glam is also a late starter. I just got new growth two weeks ago on one of my two and this week on the second one.
Oh Matthew!!! The garden is looking amazing! Your whole yard, from front to back is so different and astounding from when you first moved it! Take a bow and relax for a few by that beautiful pool in between all the coming projects! I’m blown away! I can’t wait to see the garden by the end of this season!! ❤️💫🦄💫❤️
Thank you Matthew, everything looks like it’s coming along very nicely! I have to go out and hand water everything this morning before the heat kicks in. My new garden looks very much like yours, although because I am not a visionary it’s hard for me to see the potential in my garden. Be careful in this heat, we are also SUPPOSED to cool down some next week and I’m looking forward to that I want to get back out in my garden again. Take care and be safe 💐💚🙃
Lovely verbena in the planter! I am loving the PW purple and white verbena in my windowbox right now. Good job on your drip, keeping the new plants happy during this heat wave!
I absolutely love the Senorita Rosalita cleome! I never see anyone talking about it. I've put one in a patio pot for the last couple years and it fills it up so quickly, constant blooms, a great bargain plant for containers!
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden oh interesting! Our local nursery in the Seattle area carries it but you're right I haven't seen it much elsewhere, or it's one I just haven't noticed. It's a great plant!
Please, please pull the crabgrass before it goes to seed. You don’t want a new crop later on. Your Limelight Prime Hydrangeas look great. I have a single specimen facing south with no shade until late afternoon in its 4th year and it’s about 5’ high and no blooms yet. It is on drip but maybe needs more water. I’m near Niagara Falls so close to your zone. We are in the heat wave too. Happy gardening!
Hello !! Just wanted to share my Supertunia Vista Jazzberry story . Mine also rebloomed this year and they look so beautiful. Wondering if yours maybe “crossbred” with other Supertunia ?? I am in Cali , zone 9b , coastal.
Your garden looks amazing! I love your hydrangea hedge ♥️♥️ it will be glorious when it’s fully bloomed! I’m going to add a hydrangea hedge next year.. for the shade/part shade side of my home. Any suggestions on varieties?
I loved my Incrediball hedge at my last garden and I'm going to be adding one to this one somewhere. That may be a good option depending on how much sun the area will get if it's part shade and how high you want it. Incrediball blush would also be really pretty. Depending on your zone/winters, there are also some great mountain hydrangeas and reblooming macrophyllas (big leaf) now if you want the blue or pink blooms.
My midnight sun weigelas look like little tater tots compared to yours! I’m so surprised to see the height and red foliage on yours- I wonder if in time I will get that in my garden. It’s a cool plant!!
I had a couple at my last garden and the foliage color mostly depends on the amount of sun they're getting. Mine got probably a bit more shade at the last garden and they weren't this vivid, but they also seem to change a bit during the season depending on the temps. It's a pretty spectacular plant.
Love your videos! What mulch to you use and/or are you planning on putting down compost now? I live in Texas and it is hot. I was going to put down more mulch but am now thinking I need to do compost instead? Any suggestions would be appreciated by anyone. Thank you for your most informative video.
Your wee bit innocent is gorgeous. I wish I would have bought one at Stockslagers! I'm struggling with mealy bugs on everything this year. They are on everything. Are you seeing any at your place?
Hi Matthew, your garden is looking fantastic ! I have a question, My coneflowers we’re looking fantastic. I noticed last week or so, I’m noticing something is eating the petals off. 😢.. would that be slugs? I’ve never seen any. But I’d like to treat before they ruin them. What would you recommend ..Thanks Matthew.
That’s odd. I wouldn’t expect slugs in the sun, but I’m not the best at identifying pest damage since I didn’t have a lot of issues in my last garden. If you suspect slugs you could try Sluggo or a similar pest control that contains spinosad that would combat more pests
Looking amazing, Matthew. I so want the firefly peach sky yarrow and actually had it on order but was refunded due to low stock. Going to look elsewhere.
Would you recommend Gatsby Moon, Gatsby Girl, or Gatsby Pink more for a central Ohio oak leaf hydrangea in mostly shade? I am leaning towards Gatsby Moon, but would love your thoughts on this!
They’re all going to perform about the same, so pick the one for size and bloom structure you’d like best. I’m growing Gatsby Moon now in the back shade garden corner under the crabapple tree, but it’s a very small plant right now. It did produce a pretty huge bloom for how small it is, which is comical.
Hello !! Just wanted to share my Supertunia Vista Jazzberry story . Mine also rebloomed this year and they look so beautiful. Wondering if yours maybe “crossbred” with other Supertunia ?? I am in Cali , zone 9b , coastal.
Almost all Proven Winners annuals are grown from cuttings and/or tissue culture (not seed) and, as with many consumer available plants, are un-stabilized hybrids. It wouldn't matter if it had crossed with another petunia, as any seeds (even if not crossed) would be unlikely to demonstrate the same color and growth habits as parent Jazzberry anyway. If you're in Zone 9, then yours is likely coming back from the roots true to form.

Mathew I am stund how quickly your new garden grown. Stunning. You are truly have the greenest thumb I have ever seen. 🎉🎉🎉 Thank you for the tour.
I love the potted plant ! Colors are so pretty💜💜💜💜
Looking good stay cool if you can👍😎❤️
In nearly one year at the new place, amazing job and transformation so far! The pink and lime green mixed pots by the pool are stunning! 🌸
Gosh Matthew! The amount of plantings and beauty you have created in such a short time is amazing! Way to go sir! ❤❤
the garden is very beautiful
Lots of plants. Looks good mulch will be so satisfying
Moles like to eat grubs. If you can get rid of them, the moles will go away.
The river of hookera turned out so pretty. Splendid idea.
Your heuchera river is really starting to flow!
The real issue, here in VA, is lack of rain. Lots of plants on sprinklers aren’t getting enough water. Water is very expensive and even watering for ten minutes is lost when the ground is so dry to begin with.
Matthew the front garden is stunning! I love the river of heuchera!
Those planters wow! Just stunning. Now to pull crabgrass before it goes to seed…👩🏼🌾
nothing short of amazing!
Hang in there with the heat. It’s looking beautifully. 👍🏽

Love the verbena. Crabgrass, OMG the bane of my existence. Everything looks beautiful.
The pool planters are absolutely gorgeous!
I’m loving how they’re performing!
@@SouthernersGarden I love the purple w/Senecio, Dichondra and black Ipomea! Winning combo!
@@wendyswearman6561 I agree about this combo & thanks for listing the plants here. I know there's a video of this but couldn't remember the specifics.
I could only find yellow verbena. Even though I do love yellow I wanted multiple colors. Yours is stunning. Garden is looking so beautiful. The pool containers are a great choice and gorgeous. The cool colors around the pool is perfection.
Wow Matthew! Your garden is filling in so quickly! It looks amazing!
I’m struggling with all this heat here in SWOh. Water water…. I never thought 88 degrees would sound so good😂
Omg , Matthew, your containers are gorgeous, I wish I had drip irrigation, it makes a big difference in what we grow in our gardens , I’m so tired schlepping watering can after watering can to my plants in this heat . Things are really coming along in your landscape

OMGoodness, I love a southern touch in a northern garden.
Blessings!
Your containers are exceptional!!!
Your planted pots are beautiful. You aren’t the only one behind on weeding and mulch. It will all get done.
Oh how beautiful everything looks! The hydrangea hedge is going to be stunning! I so look forward to your videos Matthew 💚💚

Matthew, thank you for sharing. Everything’s looking great. Its a good thing you have drip with all those I young plants!
So beautiful. Thank you for taking us along on your plans and then seeing it come alive in almost a year.
How do your puppies like the new property?
They love it. I'll have to have them in a video soon when it's not so hot out.
@@SouthernersGarden Looking forward to seeing them.

It stays smaller in height so it won't overtake the area. I'm looking forward to watching your garden mature, it's so inspiring!! Thanks for sharing.
That would be much too large right next to the sidewalk. The Japanese maple that didn’t make it was a short variety.
I feel your pain about dealing with the crabgrass and the weeds. The heat wave is brutal but hopefully in the next little bit it will pass and allow us out in the garden more. Things are really looking good especially the hydrangea hedge! And those containers...wow!

There’s been no gardening and a lot of pool this week after work. 😂
A replacement for the dead Japanese maple could be a rose standard. Julia Child is gorgeous as a standard, as does Princess Anne.
