The truck ferry should have never been closed before the Gordie Howe Bridge was in operation. I am not a trucker, so don't claim to know the risk of having hazardous materials transported over a bridge that is not qualified for such transport. Not that I expect a mishap, however if it did happen, how would they contain it to the bridge? Just curious. Also, do you believe they should continue the practice after the Gordie Howe is open? I really appreciate having the professionals sharing their experience with our viewers. Thanks for your insight!! 👍

The connection between the viaduct/ramp and the actual bridge seems to the last thing they want to do. It has been in that state, more or less, since I started watching your videos, Bob. Thanks for the update btw!
12 Years later, they roll out the sod. This project lives up to the Old Union trades motto: "Don't Kill the Job!" This reminds me of 4 Rail Bridges we built crossing a highway years ago, we seen a laborer carrying like 8 - 12 foot long 2x4's, and we stopped him and told him not to Kill the Job, and that he should carry no more than 3 2x4's. For the remainder of that summer, that guy NEVER was seen carrying more than 1 single 2x4 at a time. And we would laugh every time we seen him. That is the Union way.
Hi Brent. I hear you. It's a two way street to be fair. Once in a union time studies watch to make sure the workers are carrying their load of work, and if there is room, more work is added. It's counterproductive even though it is there to keep the workers busy. Unlike working for a small jobber where everybody needs to pull for the company to survive. Good comment. Thanks!😎👍
I live in Fort Frances, and the toll for the bridge between Fort Frances and International Falls is 11 Canadian dollars for cars, trucks and motorcycles!
Hi Louis. That is a lot. Fort Frances is a small community, maybe that's the reasoning for the high tolls? Whadda you think? Thanks for sharing that info! :)
To charge the same fee for trucks, cars, and motorcycles is highway robbery! Fees should be based on maintenance and repair costs to the bridge incurred by the vehicle size and weight. If the load limit for the bridge is kept below the fatigue limit of the steel structure, with proper care and maintenance it will have an almost indefinite life span. Consequently it can be determined what load and wheel arrangement causes how much in maintenance costs. It appears that the powers-that-be of the G-H bridge took this into consideration to some extend; although $8 for trucks seems rather low in my opinion. Mind you, these are not the final prices as stated by the author.
185 dollars canadian for a truck that weighs 54000lbs round trip..at the ambassador bridge..no way it will be 8 dollars for a truck..maybe 8 bucks per axle but no way a straight 8 dollars
@@TruckerAl_YQG I guess I didn't explain myself well enough. When I said truck I meant a pickup or SUV. Commercial vehicles are 16 Canadian dollars plus 4 dollars for each additional axle. So a five ton truck is 16 bucks, a typical semi would be with five axles will be 28 dollars. A logging truck will be 36 to 40 dollars. Newer logging trailers use one less axle. An oversized load starts at 430 dollars then the trucker has to get a quote for every additional axle.
Amazing Flight my Friend 👌I love your narration good music great view 8:16 I enjoyed it and you have a wonderful Weekend Cheers 🍻🍻👌👌✌️👍. Greetings from Quebec Canada 🍁
Tolls are rumored to be $8 per truck? Not likely. The current toll at the Ambassador Bridge is $13.50 USD PER AXLE ($67.50 USD) for a standard 18-wheel truck to cross the bridge. I've certainly seen the government make fiscal blunders before but does anyone actually believe that the government is going to provide a discount of nearly $60 per truck to commercial vehicles? Doing so would certainly shift virtually ALL truck traffic from the Ambassador Bridge to the Howe but the cost of the Howe would shift to the Canadian taxpayer from the users of the bridge.
Hi pcs. I believe your right. Remember these tolls are subject to change Depends what they were classifying as a truck maybe. I know it's expensive for transports to cross the Ambassador. Do you think the trucks with hazardous materials will be charged even more, now they are getting permission to cross the Ambadssador? Thanks for sharing. Great post!
@@bobjonesrealtor7756: In that the Ambassador Bridge charges an additional $100 USD for oversize loads (because an escort is required), it stands to reason that since hazmat loads will also require an escort, they'll also be charged the additional fee. Hi Kenneth. Your understanding is correct. All tolls will be collected on the Canadian side of the bridge. Gonna take a lot of crossings to make up the 6+ billion we invested.
Don't worry, in a couple of years, Canada as you know it today, will no longer exist. The Alaska 2 Alberta Railway will only be the beginning as Alberta Saskatchewan, NW and Yukon Territories will be peacefully annexed by the USA. The Ontario "Peninsula" could be in the same boat
Not really a one sided deal. Why not? While it is nice for Michigan and the U.S. to have the bridge, for Canada it is essential. The biggest problem is the owner of the Ambassador bridge did *everything* to ban a new crossing and then delayed it as much as possible. There was even a ballot proposal in Michigan to stop the bridge. So to get Michigan to pay half of it up front wasn't going to happen.
The Moroun family certainly delay the process by years. Whichever way they pay for it, it is a great advantage for everybody. I would think it is just as important for States as it is for Canada. Just my opinion. :)
Hi Spuds. If it happens in a couple of years, that means I'll be American! Won't know if that will make me smile or frown until after their election. Lol.
As a truck driver I don't see how much it cost because I have the toll pass in the truck. From what the toll schedule online says, my company pays $78 cdn to cross heavy, and about $54 to cross empty. Thats absolutely ridiculous, but I know why they are charging an exorbitant rate - they know the commercial trucks and most cars will be crossing the GH Bridge next fall. They know they may as well shut down and demolish the old bridge.
The Ambassador Bridge is paid for so the bridge company can adjust their price to undercut the Howe bridge, should they choose to do so. More importantly, as much of the truck traffic will shift to the Howe, so will the delays; it's not about how many lanes on the bridge but, rather, how quickly Customs clears the trucks. If Canada assigns more Customs agents to the Howe, the burden on the Canadian taxpayer increases. Odds are, the delays caused by a handful of traffic lights between the Ambassador Bridge and the 401 will be offset by the waiting time on the Howe. Of course, I could be wrong.
Hi Canadiantrucker. I know the Ambassador is really expensive for the transports. I think the Ambassador will still profit with cars and trucks going to the innercities. It won't be torn down any time soon. Their tolls could present an issue if the Gordie Howe enters the market lower that they are charging. They may have to lower it considerably.
Hi pcs. It will be interesting to see just how things play out obnce the Gordie Howe is open. They are hiring 250 employees on each side of the bridge to operate the facility. Everything is state of art, so once they are in the swing of it I imagine the processing will be fairly efficient, more so than the Ambassador. Of course, I could be wrong, too! :) Great reply. @@bobjonesrealtor7756: It's all speculation at this point but I spent a number of years driving a truck myself and the slowdowns at Customs on both sides of the river didn't have much to do with technology. The cargo manifests have been submitted electronically for about ten years and all the loads are pre-cleared prior to the truck arriving at Customs. Most cross-border drivers have a FAST card and it only takes a few seconds to get approval for entry. The delays seem to be (this is speculation) caused by the Customs agents just slowing down the process, perhaps to meet an average time standard - just a guess. Nonetheless, I've crossed the border thousands of times (literally) and it's a near miracle to get through Customs in much less than four minutes.
Let's hope those tolls come into effect. Since it was Canada that built the bridge I'm hoping the tolls referenced here are in Canadian dollars! Watch out Ambassdor Bridge and Windsor/Detroit Tunnel!
If these are the actual tolls, it's an amazing bargain!! When I compare this to the toll between New Brunswick and PEI, I assumed this bridge would be similar. So, I am skeptical.
Hi Michael. I wouldn't count on it. It seems to change over the updates, and they leave it open to change. The Ambassador to go and come back is around 26.00 Canadain for a car. Much more for a transport. I'll keep loking and posting what I find until they open!🌉👍
Hi Bill. I did a quick search on the ezpass question and this is what I got back; Yes, you will be able to use E-ZPass on the Gordie Howe International Bridge. The bridge, which is set to open in 2025, will accept E-ZPass for toll payments, similar to other toll facilities in the region. This will facilitate a seamless travel experience for users who are accustomed to using E-ZPass on various toll roads and bridges across the northeastern United States and parts of Canada. Thanks for the question!😎👍
Read here about an amazing bridge. This bridge has no toll fee. I would set a much lower rate for anyone who uses the bridge each day . For work or delivery, and a higher rate for thru traffic. This would encourege regional developement. Even at a low rate, over time the daily user will provide a lot of revenue.
For daily, or similar, users I suspect that a monthly pass at reduced cost may be made available. Perhaps even with automatic controls such that no stop is necessary.
Hi Kkarllwt. Love that idea! Lower rates could really help out the locals. It’s all about making the bridge a community favorite, right? Maybe you should be on the board!
@@bobjonesrealtor7756 They built a bridge over a local river 2 miles from me in the late 80,s They used tolls to pay for some of the construction costs. For 15 years I did not use it until the cost of gas for the alternate route got above the toll. It was a 50 cent toll. I would have made it a free bridge for the first six months to train drivers to use it. I would have put time of day pricing on it. The value of going to work is much higher than shopping at 10 am or going home at midnight. And I would have made it free at random times and days. People love a chance at free. It paid off in about 20 years and I use it whenever I go to that side of the river.

Sure hope the 'estimated' reduced "fines" for traversing between the US and Canada are upheld. The cost to build this bridge is obviously huge . . . but can likely be quickly recovered by charging 'humane' fees for using it.
Hi Johnny. The tolls to cross the Ambassador have really gone up. $11 us to cross and 8 us to come back. $26.46 Canadian to visit the states. Nothing humane about that. Lol.
I will never subscibe to a channel that puts a title on its video Gordie Howe Bridge Tolls and then mentions bridge tolls not even once, so essentially they conned me into clicking and then expect me to subscribe? Not too likely, buddy.
Tolls are nada. Border inspections is 98% of the problem. 10 minutes to get thru gates each way plus a 5 minute ride over or under was acceptable. 1 hr to get thru each with a 5min. drive is bottle-neck. 25 minutes vs. over 2 hours is, well why I do not hit Little Italy or others' in Windsor.
Hi ckratzet. Thanks for the comment. To clarify are you saying you sometimes wait two hours to cross the Ambassador Bridge? I know the bridge is often packed front to back with trucks. If this is the case it is a terrible situation for everyone involved. The cost in time and fuel alone is a hardship on drivers and the companies they work for. Not to mention the pollution coming from hundreds of transports sitting at a standstill for an hour or longer at a time. The Gordie Howe is looking better the more we learn. Great post. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Hi assessor. Right now, it is what they are saying but the figures can change for opening day or thereafter. They do sound low to me as well, considering the Ambassador. I imagine there will be changes especially for transport trucks.

Hi pcs. Yeah, I don't understand the logistics of the trade for sure. However, four minutes is pretty quick, I'd think.
Let's hope those tolls come into effect. Since it was Canada that built the bridge I'm hoping the tolls referenced here are in Canadian dollars! Watch out Ambassdor Bridge and Windsor/Detroit Tunnel!
Hi Martin. Actually I'm not sure if that is in Canadian? As for the other crossings, yeah, there is a big boy on the block now.:)
Those tolls seem awfully LOW compared to the Ambassador
The Ambassador is owned by a greedy family. That’s why they charge whatever they want.
@@AustinTA-cd9rsStill will use the Ambassador bridge, or the tunnel because WDBA are hypocrites and screwed over the neighborhood in the process.
Cool bridge however terrible deal for the Canadian taxpayers!!
@@loadz77 seems about right for a Harper deal
Hi Randy. I agree. These tolls are still subject to change. I could see them keeping it low on opening and inching it up from there.
So Bob, how about showing a complete run from initial entrance, all the way across, including the point of access to I-75? And back as well.
Hi Murray. I would if I could. I have to stay on the Canadian side of the river. Great idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm open to ideas.👍
Is it true Canada is paying the entire cost of bridge?
Hi billn. Yes that is a fact. 😎👍
@bobjonesrealtor7756 really?, i assume that means we ( Canada) get all the toll revenue?
@@billn7183 That is correct.
@@jamesodell3064 thanks
Yup. All tolls are collected on the Canadian side. Each side does their own border control and immigration.
Will we be able to use EZ PASS?
No
Not what I found Randy, however thanks for posting. If you have information that differs, please feel free to share.

Hi Jps. That's very interesting. I'll have to look it up. Thanks for the heads up!👍
it will only go as fast as customs allows it .
That's a fact!
@@BasementEngineer That won;t happen. Want to sneak into the country? Just steal the controller/pass or steal the vehicle.
Lol. I don't know if I would have been so frugal. Smart ideas to market the service. Great comment.
Bluewater bridge uses connextion system. $4.50. Bridge increase price $1:00.
Thatès pretty good, David. I just read a post from ; @dnormore1814 - Crossed the Ambassador yesterday.... 11 USD! Crazy how much that has gone up recently. I guess you could call it "highway robbery!" Yup, that's what I would call it, too. 👍
My concern is will GHB also use connextion. Will be nice to be able to use the same tag at SSM, Sarnia, and here.
@pigletshut I imagine they will. You can only a a few RFID's on the windshield. Edge coordinated with connextion.
Windsor tunnel uses a different system of prepayment .
@@davidandrews8007 Not surprising, since it is owned by the maroon who owns Ambassador.
The fact that there were no worker injuries on this immense, monumentally heavy equipment use project, seems almost beyond belief! Seems industrialized/humanized man may have woken up!?
Hi Johnny. It is an incredible accomplishment on a project this big. I did hear they were strict with the saftey rules. They'd kick you off the site if you didn't listen. Anyway great for them!!😎👍
What about customs?
Hi Rick. There will be customs on both sides of the border just like the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit Windsor Tunnel. The tolls however will all be collected on the Canadian side.
Don't forget who is paying for the bridge. Canada .
All of us. 🎄🎁😎👍
Who gets the toll charges?
Hi Offgridwanabe. Canada, until the cost is recouped from the construction. All tolls are collected on the Canadian side.
They are going to allow people to walk and ride a bike over the bridge. I bet like san Francisco golden gate bridge there will be BRIDGE JUMPERS. I doubt 4 dollars toll.
If the name of the video is "tolls exposed" why is it talked about halfway through the video, and it is only a guess.
Hi Bogotablognj. Thanks for watching. The information is what I could find in my research, so not my guess, what the media said. I search each time I create a video and post what I find. I do appreciate the feedback and will take note for future videos. Thanks for sharing!! 👍
Hi Jim. You must have missed it. You'll find it around 4:29 on the timeline in the video.
$6.5 BILLION
and counting.
I don’t believe the quoted tolls, but if they are correct, it will put the Ambassador out of business chop-chop!
Hi assessor. Right now, it is what they are saying but the figures can change for opening day or thereafter. They do sound low to me as well, considering the Ambassador. I imagine there will be changes especially for transport trucks.
Another click bait
Thanks for the comment, Joe. I'll keep an eye on that. 👍
No to Tolls, keep North America free and Open, for Tourism and Business.
Hi. Maybe after we get the taxpayer cost back. That's going to take quite a while.
The Canadian taxpayer is footing the bill for this bridge , tolls will help pay it off !
@bobjonesrealtor7756 The Bluewater bridge up in Sarnia is owned by the Federal bridge authority that owns this new bridge - they will never give up making money on both sides of the border.
@@northlander4370 Just not in anybody who is currently alive's lifetime.
Canada payed for the bridge. As a Canadian taxpayer, I would prefer that you guys pay us back. ;)

Hi Universe. Gordie Howe was a great Canadian hockey player that played with the Detroit Red Wings. He was loved by everyone. He earned the name "Mr. Hockey" Google him and you might get a better idea. Thanks for the question.🏒👍
The Canadian Transport Minister waived tolls for pedestrians and cyclists a few years ago.
Hi Robert. Interesting. Do you have a site or link I can check out?
@@bobjonesrealtor7756 As always, great video Bob. I have replied twice to your comment here and it keeps getting removed; maybe because I included a link to the Gordie Howe International Bridges web site. On the web site there is a fact sheet for the Multi-Use Path. On the fact sheet this is stated: "Use of the path will be toll-free." To find the fact sheet from the home page, hold the cursor over "Info Centre" and then click on "Fact sheets". Scroll down until you find "Bridge Multi-Use Path" and click on that.

Given that Canada is largely paying for this it's probably going to cost at least $15 CA for a car.
Hi Dave. Kinda hard to say what they are going to do. Although that sounds exstream considering the tolls on the Ambassador or the Tunnel. I'll keep my ears open. :) Thanks for the comment! . . . . . Dave maybe your not far off. The Ambassador has raised their tolls to $11 usd to go from Canada to the US and $8 usd to go from the US to Canada. Wow!
The country may be falling apart, but at least there's a new bridge.
Looking forward to the people of both countries bridging together.
Lol. Hopefully we'll see better years ahead. Not much support for the Liberal govt, eh?
