You can catch the train from Katakolon to famous Olympia, site of the original Olympic games, the tomb of King Pelops and home at one time to over 70 temples and altars.
There's also the "Kostas Kotsanas" - the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, which is well worth a visit if you're intrigued by the ingenuity of the ancient Greeks.

Thanks Mike, for the quick presentation of Katalokon. How lomg should a visit to Olympia last, does it give enough time to go, visit and return in time for the cruise ship not to leave without you?
We decided to stay in Katakolon, but plenty of people opted to take the train, so it's certainly doable. I think the train takes around 45 minutes and then its a 5 minute walk from the station to Olympia.
