Greg papa helped a lot of raider fans get through the dark years... He will be deeply missed. This was a little hard to watch

I had no cable for the longest time, only way I got raider games was by radio, i was torn once i got cable, wanted to watch it live...but no one called football like greg papa...he made you feel like you were at the game

The only way I was able to keep an eye on the Raiders when I was still living in San Diego was listening to a Los Angeles radio station and Greg Papa called all of those Raiders games, and when I ended up moving here in Los Angeles five years ago it was the same situation (they showed mostly Chargers games I have no idea why but anyways) I will miss listening to one of the greatest local sportscasters of all time!

Loved this! I wasn’t a Raiders fan but this brings back so many memories! Living on the west coast, when we got out of church on Sunday’s the Raider game would still be on. In the late 90s/early 00s I’d drive home with my late aunt who’s husband was the biggest Raider fan I know to this day. She’d have this playing on the radio. She wasn’t a big football fan, but she wanted to know what kind of mood my uncle would be in when she got home. That 10-15 minute drive home, I’d always just wanted to hear one, “Touchdoooooowwwwn Raaaaaaiiiiideeeerrrrrrrrssss” Loved it!

I 100% agree with you and being loyal to AL DAVIS and would have never accepted Mike Shanahan as are coach he even stated that he had his players throw the ball at Al's head because he was standing on the 50 he's the enemy and a bronco and he'll never be one of us mark Davis is destroying the culture of this team we are losing all are history and traditions he's in it for the $ Vegas is going to be A tourist attraction with bandwagons fans and people on vacation we are losing the hart beat of this team which is the passionate fans that show up winning are losing and make the trip to Oakland it hurts to see the direction of the team !
Philly B I missed what happened with Greg Papa, but as I was researching the AFL/NFL merger, the move to Las Vegas is indeed a ploy for the NFL to take away ownership from the Davis family.
No doubt they got to the Oakland officials to stall the renewal, forcing Davis to move. Why Las Vegas? There they thought by bringing in Goldman Sachs, they could take part owbership by putting up loads of money.
Davis did the right thing by turning them and the money down. Said Raiders are not for sale. Davis went to Bank of America instead and keeps owbership away from outside entities. No doubt they would have forced Mark Davis out and take over as the Raiders are the last team to not be corporatized into the NFL.
Al Davis wanted to do away with the NFL and stick with AFL as the AFL cared about the players and fans. The AFL/NFL merger was a scheme played out by the losing NFL owners, contacting the other AFL owners to merge without Al Davis knowing, even when he was the AFL Commissioner.
Its all about the NWO.
I really miss when he will say touch down raiders one in a million. Raiders 4 Life...

I fell in love with the raiders in 2010 papa you were partially responsible in November when the chiefs came down here and we beat them or in 2011 HE MADE IT A 63 YARD FIELD GOAL TO TIE THE RECORD

Unbelievable how some fans sided with Mark on this move. Hearing Greg on the niner flag station, and call their games, is heartbreaking. He's by far the best in the business and there's not even a close second. Losing him felt as bad as when we lost the 02' sb. Simply sacrilege and vindictive. Miss Greg. He was irreplaceable. Nice to see him get arguably a better opportunity with the 9ers tho. Good way to rub one in Mark's face!
