      Not gonna lie, I still get frustrated because people sometimes looks like they're playing with a not functioning keyboard, but we all have those matches from time to time...

    "Gotta bury your demons, then tear down the ceiling, Phoenix fly"
    It is a song telling you that the only one holding you back is yourself, the biggest obstacle is you.
    The doppelgangers represent this.
    Beautiful really. The people(real) are professional players, and the characters are their in-game representatives...the ice queen is Lisandra, the girl with the blades is Irellia, she was in awakened yes. And Karma is the last one, she was in awakened too, the shield.
    In this one, Karma is representing Faker, who has been the world's best league of legends player for years(youngest pro for a long time too), Faker is so iconic to league that he has made appearances in several cinematics: he is the final boss of "Rise", he has an appearance in "Zedd Ignite" and phoenix now too.
    Oh and this came out a month before true damage giants, waaay after awaken, they are not linked at all.
    Lastly, love your enthusiasm for these reactions and have said so for all of them i think.
    i think it would be funny to see how league blows your mind if you do decide to start playing, it is not too beginner friendly as there is just so many variables to take in(150 characters each with 4+ abilities to remember plus hidden stuff)...but i'd sub for that. Best if luck.

      Exactly, the "virus" or dark personas are basically their own fears, doubts, the voices in the back of their heads that are telling them they're no good or they can't win, etc. The imagery, even the lyrics, are amazing at conveying a message of rising back up no matter what tries to keep you down.

    • @KaneOtonashi

      @Segafan243 .. yes thats everything and a bit more you need to know to understand the message ... Idk why ... but I still get quite emotional when I see this video ... either its because G2 lost that year to FPX or the track punches a message ... i think its both .

    • @helgenlane
      @helgenlane 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The song is extremely literal and visuals follow the lyrics very close, so the metaphor should be obvious...
      "It's all in your mind and it's fighting you"
      "It's your reflection looking back to pull you down"
      "You gotta conquer the monster in your head and then you'll fly"

  • @MrAndypower88

    Hello scru, always good seeing your reactions. This video dropped right before of 2019 worlds, basically there's always one of them dropping just before/at the start to hye people for the competition, and the 3 people you see are in order Rookie of iG, a chinese team, Caps from G2, an eurpean team and Faker(considered by pretty much everyone the best player of all time) from SKT, a korean team. They are represented by Lissandra, Irelia and Karma respectively, a very specific choice of champions that's at the base of the thematic around the song and the visuals. Basically they were champions that each of them picked at extremely important matches, at the most importan time of the series, but they failed to deliver and lost said matches. So the theme of the song is to cast away the bad thoughts, ideas of giving up, it's too late and the likes, and to be reborn like a phoenix, fighting your mind to get back to it and try again in the pursuit for victory. One of the most inspiring songs from riot personally, really good in all the aspects once you realize the meaning behind it. Greetings from Italy man, keep being you and good luck with everything.
    P.S. I find your idea of a gaming channel interesting, go for it, but I wont sugarcoat it...what you'll find playing the game is not exactly the community your getting to know and love so much. Get ready for a lot of toxicity, people going afk for the most stupid reasons imaginable, kids/manchilds arguing for the most stupid shit instead of playing, tilted teammates that decide to go against you not giving a fuck about winning. Sure not all of us are like that, but you'll see plenty, especcially when you'll get to ranked matches. And get ready to learn, the game has a steep learning curve, and there are tons of things to learn and put to use, I'm not joking when I tell that even after a year you'll still be learning something.

    Awaken, Phoenix, Giants were all released for the same year (in that order) - the Worlds finals showed Awaken, Giants, Phoenix.
    This video has a theme of "conquering your demons" (which match the lyrics) - the video featured 3 pro players: Rookie, Caps, Faker. They were featured on their 3 particular champions because of how they failed at previous World Championships on those champions

  • @flick9753
    @flick9753 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Some backstory on this video. This video was posted before Worlds 2019. All these three guys failed to win Worlds 2018. And they all failed with the champions shown on the video. Faker (the DJ looking guy) lost with his Karma (the girl throwing some power beams). Caps (the guy sitting in front of the PC) failed with his Irelia (the blade girl). And the last guy, Rookie (train guy) failed with his Lissandra. So these guys all qualified for Worlds 2019 and they were seeking redemption. Fun fact, all these 3 guys made it to Semifinals during Worlds 2019. Caps made it to finals, where he faced and lost to a team...called...FunPlus Phoenix. Yup that's the title of the song. Keep in mind in mind that this song was released before these guys made it to semis. So the story fits so fucking well.

    Hey Scru, gotchu
    This video came out recent where as awaken was further back. Videos not related to each other.
    This video is for the World Championship of 2019. All 3 real life people are professional esports players that made it to the World Championship.
    This videos theme is about overcoming defeat and coming back stronger like a pheonix and all 3 of the players have gone through that.
    Each champion is something the player has played professionally and the "evil/dark" version of that character are the negative thoughts and emotions that try to hold the player back.
    The first dude is from a team that previously won the championship and was told by the community that it was just a fluke (the messages on his phone) his champion counterpart is lissandra, an ice magic user.
    The next dude is from a team that was favored to win that years Championship, but he has a reputation of performing poorly at times. When hes doing good people refer to him as Claps, when hes doing bad hes Craps. His champion counterpart as you know from the Awaken video is Irelia.
    The last player is Faker. Best known for being the #1 League player. He appeared as the final boss in the Rise music video. Being at the top he gets a lot of criticism about possibly being washed up and old news. Not being good as he used to be. His champion counterpart as you know from Awaken is Karma.
    Unfortunately, all 3 players and their respective teams lost at Worlds.

    This video and song meaning was meant in a way to reference Faker which is why he is in the video. He suffered a crushing loss the year before. So the phoenix represents him rising from the flames and attaining his former place as champion. The most interesting part of all this is that he ultimately failed and a team called Fun Plus Phoenix won instead. Real life is stranger than fiction.

  • @bunnywreck
    @bunnywreck 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    the song is about failures and how you can overcome it and rise again from the ashes just like a phoenix, there are three pro-players shown and the animated characters are their respective choice during one of their failures:
    Rookie, the one in the train, as Lissandra - He chose the champion on his team last match in 2015 Worlds, they lost and he didn't return to Worlds for 3 years. In 2018 he qualified and his team, IG, won the championship.
    Caps, the one playing, as Irelia - Irelia was chosen during the 2018 worlds finals and Caps got smashed (by Rookie btw), and they lost 3-0. This year he left his old team and joined a new one on very risky move, they won the MSI (wich is a like a mini-Worlds that happens halfway through the year) and came in as one of the favorites for this year's worlds.
    And Faker, in the press room, as Karma - He picked Karma in the last game of 2017 worlds finals, he got caught and his death caused his team to lose the game. The year after that wasn't very good either, his team didn't qualified for both MSI nor Worlds, but he came back in 2019 winning the korean tournament twice, qualifying both for worlds and MSI, and getting into the knockout stage of both tournaments.
    the fun thing is that those three teams managed to get into the semi-finals from the world championship this year alongside another team, this 4th team won the whole thing, and the team is called FunPlus PHOENIX
    :D

    Okay the song is a call to the fears and struggles tormenting competitors battling in the world competition. It shows the 3 LOL stars(Winther, Eui-Jin, and Faker) battling against their dark form to push past their failures and rise again. The 3 characters in this song are Lyssandra, Karma, and Irelia who are champions closely tied to the 3 stars of the music. I hope this helps.

    The song and music video is about 3 professional players road to redemption for champions they had lost on at the world championships. First one is Rookie who was know for playing Lissandra, the second was Caps who was known for his Irelia, and the third was Faker, widely considered the best player in the word, as Karma. The song is about fight the doubt and hatred within ones self and getting back up and performing, because the reason their team lost is generally considered these threes fault.

    The song and video are about 3 famous pro players who've lost, overcoming their self-doubt (represented by shadowy, mocking doppelgangers) to compete again at the world stage. In order of appearance:
    First, on the train, we have one of China's best players, "Rookie" (Song Eui-jin). He's from Korea, but has played in China for the last 5 years, even winning the region's first Worlds championship in 2018. Rookie is represented by one of his signature champions, the ice-witch Lissandra.
    Second, in the training room, we have one of Europe's best players, "Caps" (Rasmus Borregaard Winther). One of actually absurdly many highly talented players from Denmark, he's recently made back-to-back finals appearances (on 2 different teams!) at Worlds, though his team has ultimately lost 0-3 both times. Caps is represented by Irelia, "the Will of the Blades" - and yeah, you're right that she was the same one you saw in Awaken. =)
    Last, in the press conference, we have the GOAT of LoL, Korea's "Faker" (Lee Sang-hyeok). Along with his teammate "Bengi", Faker is the only player to have won the Worlds championship 3 times - and in fact, the only players even to win it twice have done so with Faker and his team, SKT T1 (now simply T1). Faker is represented by Karma, "the Enlightened One" - she was actually also in Awaken, as a supporting character to Irelia at the end (she shields her from the big undead dude's axe smash).
    Love your reactions, I'd be there for some gaming! =)

    Most of these videos (particulary this one) are centered around overcoming the impossible. In this context it is about the top players conquering their own demons in order to stand on the top (hence the fights with the dopplegangers).
    What makes these music videos / cinematics so epic is that as a League player I can really really relate to that struggle. In order to improve you have to put down hours upon hours of sweat equity. Many top players work 10-14 hours a day actively in order to be competetive and striving towards becoming the best. They eat sleep and breathe League of Legends in order to deliver in the competitions.
    Even though I didn't really liked the song, the story that is being told is so damn touching.

    Also all of the champs have significance in the players career:
    Rookie(train boy) lost on Lissandra(ice queen) in one of his most important games.
    Caps(white guy) lost on Irelia(blade dancer) at worlds in one of his hardest defeats ever.
    Faker(press conference guy) lost on Karma(kamehameha) in game 3 after he was flashed on by the other team, causing his team to lose the championship
    the message of the video is that the biggest rival to each of the players is themselves and as Phoenixes, they have 2 chances, a 2nd life. It's to tell players that you can't dwell on your mistakes because you're the only person holding you back. All of these players have fallen but theyve also all risen. Faker is a 3time world champ, Caps almost completed the Grand Slam and made 2 back to back finals at worlds, Rookie is a world champion as well.

    Faker the unkillable demon king as Karma that he played when he lost the world championship final.
    PS. He's the guy on top of the mountain in Rise.
    Caps from G2 they call him baby Faker because he's the best the west has ever seen from his position. He's playing Irelia from When he lost the world championship finals playing for Fnatic.

    Sup Friend. The 3 characters were (in order): Lissandra, Irelia (the one from Awaken with the swords) and Karma (also from Awaken, she is the one that shielded Irelia). The 3 people (not characters) are (in order): Rookie, Caps and Faker. Faker is regarded as the best League of Legends player in the World (In the "Rise" video, he is the final boss...the dude with the book). Rookie is Lissandra, Caps is Irelia and Faker is Karma. That's why they switch from player to character like that.
    The song is about conquering your inner demons. We all have them and they hold us back (whether it be fear of failure, of the unknown, or change, lack of confidence, etc.). Until you do, you'll never overcome, but once you do, you'll fly (hence the song name "Phoenix").
    But also, it was a sort of tribute to the players themselves because it showcases what they go through. If they fail, will they still have a job next season. If they fail, what will the fans say. If they fail, how will they feel. They have a lot of demons themselves to battle to show up on such a high level day in and day out.
    Enjoy!

    If you would listen to the lyrics of phoenix properly you would have noticed it is about the internal struggle between the players and conquering their demons that have gotten power from the hate the pros received

    There are 5 types of League videos.
    There are the Skins hype videos (KDA, Star Guardians, True Damage) : The big ones are played right before the world's finals for maximum $$$
    There are the Worlds E-sports videos (Rise, Pheonix) : Mostly unveiled at the start of the world's tournament
    There are the seasonal celebration videos (Awaken, Warriors 2020) : These come out to celebrate the start of the new ranked season, and usually double as lore videos
    There are the pure lore/song videos (Annie, Varus: As We Fall) : These come out whenever the fk riot feels like it because they can and they're awesome.
    And then there's other, which encompasses random stuff like the animation workshops or Hyun's Dojo. : Random, but still good.

    i honestly subscribed because of your reactions to the music of my favorite game. I have played League of Legends for 10 years now and i love the game. A lot of people don't understand the game and write off anything else involved the it. I always enjoy seeing the reactions to all of these videos that i have seen hundreds of times now.

    So to give you more understanding about these vids, every year we have the world championship and for each worlds we get a worlds song. Since 2018 we've been getting season start hype song (Awaken and Warriors) and throughout the year we either get short stories,comics cinematics and if riot is generous another song or two. The characters you see are champions in the game and not really made after someone in real life. There are only two champs that are made for someone and those are the CEOs of riot.

    Just a commentary about the LoL videos. There are basically 3 types of League videos:
    - There are those that are about the game itself, which usually don't have a music composition, such as "A Twist of Fate" and "A New Dawn" (the most famous videos in this category);
    - There are those that are about the lore of League's world and/or its champions/characters which may or may not have a music composition, like the video for Annie (namesake, no music), the video for Varus "As We Fall" (music) and the one for Amumu called "The Curse of the Sad Mummy" (music) - just to give you a few examples. The "Awaken" video is put here;
    - And there are the World's Championship videos, which usually are music productions featuring pro-players and/or some LoL characters such as the "Legends Never Die", "Rise" and this particular one, "Phoenix" videos. The songs in this kind of video usually are about overcomimg yourself and your obstacles, never giving up and stuff like this.
    So, even though Irelia (the woman with the blades) appears in both "Awaken" and "Phoenix" videos, they are not related at all.
    PS.: The Varus's and Amumu's lore video that I mentioned before both have great songs and I think that would be awesome if you reacted to them!

    Hey Scru. I'm extremely late, here, but the story here is more so about the pro players controlling the characters. Faker is an arguably "washed up" greatest player of all time. While the other two players are up and coming (well... established) contenders for that title, but all are currently struggling with themselves and their mistakes. So "are you gonna die today or make it out alive" is about whether they give in to their insecurities about their play or will they rise above it and achieve greatness

  • @AirgeadEire
    @AirgeadEire 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of the time the videos are completely disconnected from eachother for these worlds videos, as they are about telling the stories of teams or players in previous years, rather than the awaken video/the new warriors video telling stories about the universe the game is based in. This one specifically is about the internal and external struggles of the 3 players in the video, SKT T1’s Faker, IG’s Rookie and G2’s Caps, all pretty legendary players

    I've been waiting for a reaction of Phoenix in like forever, I just searched for this yesterday and aaaaaá finally!!
    BTW, those real people shown in there were the actual players and known as legends in the game and their alternate Champions in the video where thw Champions they used when they lost a game. Thus, the Champions there are facing a dark side of themselves with the lyrics “ Go bury your demons and tear down the ceiling Phoenix, Fly”
    Good reaction Scru!! Never disappoints!

    So glad you love the artwork and music coming from Riot. They really bring out the characters or champions in the League of Legends game. It's great to see the lore that the champions have come to life. If you do end up playing the game, it's a lot of fun and sometimes toxic too lol, so fair warning. I suggest playing with friends that can help you understand the game better.

    Aight, so this cinematic is a music video hyping everybody up for one of the big esports events they put on at the end of the year, and the people in the video are some of the top players they were thinking had a shot to win last year. The white kid with the jersey is Caps from G2 Esports which is the European team that went the furthest out of the three players they showed in the video this year, the Korean guy with the glasses is Faker from SKT T1, who's gotten the most trophies out of everyone until the past few years basically, then the guy with the phone in the beginning is Rookie from Invictus Gaming -- which is the Chinese team that took the trophy the year before this came out. The champions in the video from what people are saying were ones that these players lost on in the past, so it's like they all fighting they past mistakes in game. Thing is though, the team that beat all of these people in the tournament end of 2019 wasn't in the video -- they was in the lyrics. They were called FPX, from China, and their symbol is of a Phoenix, like you hear in the lyrics of the song. Phoenix went flying that year for sure @Scru Face Jean

    I really am sad to hear you're not getting the views you deserve man. You're a great personality to see react to my favorite league videos and cyphers!
    Im super late to here but just a very quick thing about the videos:
    They are NOT a continuous story, each one is held to their own video.
    These 3 players are star players for their respected teams; they did not do well or blamed for their team's loss in the worlds tournament prior and were greeted with a lot of scrutiny coming in to the years Worlds tournament.
    The "doppelgangers" are their self doubts and the fan's doubts in their capability with their play on the champion.
    Defeating their opponent in the video reinforced themselves. Pushing past the doubt and lingering pain from last year. Rising from the ashes as per the song title; Phoenix.
