Michael, I am never ever disappointed at what grabs my fly as I love fish of all shape and sizes. half the fun is getting the take the best bit is releasing them again. What is your favourite fish to catch on the fly?
Don't struggle when they're caught?! HahahaHAHAHAhahahaHA!!! I must be confused about what you're meaning. Because if you say they don't struggle: Then what would YOU call the 20 or so minutes that it took for Peter to battle this Goliath GT, so that he could get it tired enough to reel in, unhook, and photograph it?? Most fisherman refer to this as fighting the fish...BECAUSE the fish STRUGGLES to get away, and the fisherman struggles to catch it. GT arguably "struggle"(fight) harder than ANY other fish in the world ...hence the massive draw to pursue them as a species. How about YOU try catching one first, and then try telling us they don't struggle....because after you catch your breath, you'll say NO such thing!! Anyways, I dream of one day pursuing and catching a Giant GT. Beautiful locations, beautiful fish, amazing fight. Well done Peter. Cheers!!
Hi peter, Victor again. I'm fighting stage 4 cancer now and looking for videos to pick up my spirit. can"t get enough of your videos and the love you have for fishes. That so cool. I look at fishing in a new life. Didn't believe in catch and release before. Keep them coming:]
Thank you for your kind comments, yes it is nice to see them all swim away for another day. I do have lots of respect for the fish and lots of love. After all its our sport and we need to take good care of it.
Peter, it is obvious to me that you really are as nice as you appear to be in your videos! Which is part of the reason I subscribed to your channel! I just sent this video to my son, who told me just yesterday that he got a chance to go fishing for the first time this season here in Ohio (USA). When I sent him your video, I asked him if he had had any fish biting on his line that were as big as the fish you were catching! LOL! Trust me, in our inland lakes, THAT will NEVER happen! LOL!😃😊
Ha Ha Racingirl that made me laugh... I am sure that if your son keeps up with the fish he will progress to bigger fish. Hell I can remember love catching fish 1 inch long and loving it. I still today fish for small fish, its all about how you fish for them and the tackle you use. If using balanced tackle regardless of their size all fish fight. Its all about giving them a sporting chance. Thank you for subscribing please feel free to watch all the videos and help me spread the word by sharing with anyone and everyone.
Wow we are so close to 500k views amazing for a little video, I though if 1k of people watched it that would be good. You have all made me a very happy man, still amazed at all your kind comments Regards Peter Collingsworth
Have you tried Skagit Style of Spey casting for GT? Skagit Spey allows huge flies and wind does not become a factor. One can cast off of either downwind shoulder. You can use heavy sink tips or floating tips. Huge flies generally mean huge fish. Would a two-handed 1214 rod give you 80-110 ft casts and put you in deeper water for bigger fish with less effort? Honestly, you don't need any improvement over current technique. Great video.
Justin Jones Justin well thats me then my friend, I just love the whole experience and I hope that my enjoyment comes across in my videos? I hate watching videos of people just reeling in fish. Make sure you check out all my other videos and please feel free to comment on them all. Regards Peter
15 years ago when we went there, they were serving us Trevally for dinner. We were aghast and spent the whole week telling the kitchen and guides at Capt. Cook we'd gladly eat pork and beans from a can rather than kill this magnificent fish. It's essential to remind the locals everywhere that the reason we come there is to CATCH not to eat and they'd be well served by making sure the game fish are left to thrive. Great footage. Nice job Peter.
Barry, we let me give you a very big thank you for its because people like us who care about our fishing that these fish are still around in good numbers to fish for and catch. They also a few year back now banned gill nets for the Bonefish and both their numbers and size have come back at an amazing rate. Glad you liked the film and your comments. Check out my other little videos and leave me some comments on them Rgds Peter
I know how much effort it takes to travel halfway around the world, to do that plus bring a small video and still picture crew along for the fishing trip, it's amazing. Thanks for sharing this with us. The GT was beautiful!
Hey everyone, off in just over a weeks time have a group of 12 guys all looking to see what all the fuss is about on Christmas Island, lets hope the GT's are in a angry mood and very hungry :) I will let you all know how we get one. Regards Peter
Not on Christmas as I think we have covered that destination. We have not filmed any trips for a few months. But will try and make time to start sorting some new ones out soon.
That is a day in paradise. I could live there as long as they had shell fish. My worst day of fishing is still better than my best day at work. Thanks for sharing these great videos.
Ha ha yes that was a funny moment, just did not know what to do, but as catching monsters like that do not happen everyday I just wanted the fish and not the rod. Thanks for subscribing, would love you to take 5 mins to check out and comment on my other videos. The more comments and views I can get the better. Thanks a million regards Peter
The fishing is better at Christmas Island today than it was back in the late 1970's when we first visited. Many many trips and many many happy fishing memories.
Thanks for making this video available to the public. Ever since I watched Peter Morse on Christmas Island it's been in my bucket list.... Maybe one day I be there to experience the pleasure of catching a monster GT. Thanx again. Alan
Thanks Hector, I just love kissing fish, to me its a way of saying thank you... ha ha but I am sure the fish probably would prefer that I did not kiss them as I am far to ugly ... lol Regards Peter
Every act of love for a fish, as the releasing when you do not need to eat it, is a deep emotion and a smile that touches humanity to the edge of tears.
WOOOW thanks guys means a lot from such a big fishing TV channel, would love to do some work with you guys one day, I am sure there must be some common ground. Did you get a chance to check out some of my other videos? I have so so many yet to edit up all from around the world. Keep your great channel going Rgds Peter
Flyboy, thanks glad you like them and I appreciate you taking the time to watch them. Did you check out all my other videos, great way to spend a few hours relaxing. Regards Peter
you are gonna break your rod one day by holding it above the cork when fighting big fish. Happened to me once during one of the salmon seasons in Oregon. I talked to the owner of the local fly shop and He said that every time you hold a part of the rod thats not cork, It weakens it until it will break when you are fighting a fish! Amazing fishing footage though! Never fly fished in salt water before even though I have a salt water reel and rod...
Hi Peter, I know I do play fish hard and I also put tackle through its paces, thats one reason tackle manufactures use me to test me tackle as I will test it to distraction. The rods I was using did not have enough backbone to finish the fight so I had no choice but to put my had up the rod to effectively shorten the rod and give it more power
Abbey, not thats what I like to hear, glad you like it so so much. Take a look at my other videos please and leave me comments on them also. Have a good weekend and thank you for taking the time to comment. Regards Peter
Thanks for watching and commenting, I am sure if you wish and plan hard you to will be there someday soon. Good luck with your dreams and travel. Regards Peter
Peter, I see that you are staying at Shark's Place. Come clean please, are you chumming these fish? I've got to wonder how long the baitfish would stay in one place while being constantly attcked.
Hi Deborah, yes I have stayed at Sharks Place a few times but no longer use it and now use and manage bookings for another lodge. These fish on this video are all caught on the fly and no chum. We found fish on some of these small flats quite close to the mouth of the bay. There was a large group of small Queenfish and Mullet on the end of this flat which seemed to keep the Gt's active. There was so many Queenfish they were a pain keep nipping the fly when trying to fish for the GT's. If you stripped fast you just got hooked up on Queenfish, one of my friends who was with me, foul hooked a queenfish in the back while stripping it went mental and in a panic swam of the flat and immediately got eaten by a 60lb GT. He even managed to land the GT was so funny to see. There is chumming as we all know happening on xmas and other destinations, I am not sure if I think its a issue tho, as I have not seen it effect the fishing in anyway. Also if thats what people want to do I would not knock them after all its only another method of fishing. I like stalking them best, but I have also learned after of 15 trips there at certain times with certain tides, there are some great places to stake fish as we know groups of GT's will come hunting past. Rgds Peter
It is so funny to fishing, the view is amazing, it's cool. And I just wanna learn a little bit of fishing. You're so nice to let the fish go and just enjoy the fun of fishing.
Anthony the lodge we are staying you can find all the details on this link hope you enjoy and thanks for watching Regards Peter www.anglingdirectholidays.com/bonefish-and-giant-trevally-fishing-christmas-island/tour-overview.html
What great reviews and comments you have all given on this my first little video. I have uploaded some more videos on my channel, please feel free to take a look at the link below and also give me you feedback. Help me spread the word by sharing with ALL your friends.
Beautiful water so fresh and clean you can see right threw it ! gorgeous sky seems like a dream come true i wish i lived their the view is amazing the fish look delicious
Thanks John, I love to let as many fish go as possible all over the world, leaves plenty of other lucky anglers to catch. Thanks for watching and commenting Rgds Peter
wow, crazy good video! beautiful setting and great day! good to see some fishermen having good fun appropriating the sport and catching good fish! especially great to see him putting them back
really shits me seeing this, the reason is I'm one of those frustrated fishermen who have always wanted to 'sport fish' a GT, my one and only hook up lasted less than 10 seconds, long enough to see him jump and snap the line. I have caught just about everything else including Marlon,Sword fish, sharks but no bloody GT's...ok I'm a sad old man LMAO thanks great video mate .. I hate you hahahaha
Hi buddy, I know how these fish can get under your skin, my partner did all the filming on this dvd and she was gaging to have a go afterwards. It must of been very hard to have to just watch all the action through the lens. But I am sure next time in November she will be in front of the camera and me behind it. LOL. Keep trying and you will get in to them. Thanks for watching Regards Peter
Eres adorable, gracias por devolverlos al mar. En realidad yo me los hubiese comido, porque los pescaste tú; si yo los hubiese pescado, también los regresaría. Wow eres increíble!!!❤
Thanks Mark, I am amazed at the reaction from people, mostly good comments, just tried to make them interesting thats all. I have just finished uploading another one on Christmas Island this time fishing for them with large poppers... great fun :)
Cristian, that what it feels like when they make those powerful runs Glad you liked it, keep watching and check out the rest of my little video collection. th-cam.com/channels/IidM3_S2SAdirwB8EuJbgQ.html

Thanks just trying to film a bit of what we do, we are not professional film makers just a professional travel company. So glad you liked it tho Regards Peter
Peter, superb stuff but just a comment or two on your CAR technique; First up to hold a fish dangling by its tail puts heavy stress on its spine with a high likelihood of permanent damage, also taking tired fish straight on of the water once it is dusted is like dunking a person's head into a bucket of water at the finish line after running a fast 800m, best to give them 30/45 seconds or so to recover in the water prior to lifting for the photo. Just a thought, but great footage nonetheless.
UyPuihchangkho Thank you so much for your kind words, I am just trying to show people how exciting fishing is, not trying to be a hero or star just love sharing fishing.
Ha Ha David, no you are not if you read the comments there has been a few people who have watched my videos and though of their stomachs :) Cheers Peter
You really shouldn't eat those reef dwellers in those waters... have you ever heard of or about Ciguatera poisoning?...rather go for the coral trout, they're more edible I suppose...😊👍
They are nice, though I like black, island and sometimes blue trevally more, though it depends where you catch them, if there is Ciguatera poisoning they are one of the most dangerous fish to eat. Coral trout is nice too but its also dangerous if theres risk of ciguatera poisoning but basically any reef and inshore fish or fish that prey on them are a risk if ciguatera is present, and the poisoning can have really long term and unpleasant effects.
@@dirkvandermerwe6027 Amen to Dirk, here in Hawai'i we don't eat White Ulua aka Giant Trevally due to ciguatera especially those over 20 pounds. The under 20 pounders though less likely to have ciguatera due to it being cumulative in nature both in the fish and the fisherman they just don't taste all that great. What's a shame here is that many local fishermen will keep the larger 100+ pound fish just to have mounted for bragging rights. These larger fish are the best breeding stock.
sooo beautiful Location .... a fly fishers dream!!! you have great luck to make this experience. The GT Video is amazing, too. I dream of it, to be there one time, too :-)
Armin, it has taken me many years of hard work to get to this position. You should just grab a camera and go buddy it is amazing what people can make these days. Regards Peter
Oh yes Nick I take groups every year. That day was an amazing day thats never been repeated. Normally you are looking to catch 1 or 2 pr day, but on that day when filming I landed 13 GT'S but could not show all them as the video would have been too long. Regards Peter
Sportquest Holidays Great video, I spent 9 months on Christmas as my Uncle John Bryden lives there across from the Captain Cook Hotel and my mother is from Kiribati. Haven't been back since 94.
I first learned of Christmas Island from Field and Stream back in 2004 and then Larry Dalberg on his Hunt for Big Fish show.....BUCKET LIST DESTINATION! Great video, thanks for sharing.
This got my heart racing just watching the video. I've fished on the outer banks for reds, blues, and trout but nothing the size of those GT's. Maybe one of the days I to will be able to catch some monsters like that. Great video! Keep'em coming!
Cheers Jimmie so glad you like it, yes those GT's are amazing and also great fun to catch. I however like fishing for all fish just use balanced tackle and everything gives us a good fight and pleasure. One thing I have never fished for or caught it Redfish love to give that a go sometime, stalking them with the fly Mmmmm Regards Peter

This was a great video showcasing a wonderful location and activity! still I couldn't keep my mind off the pain the fishes should go through getting hooked and you detailing its beauty. Fishes looked terrified tough it is a good sport!
Thanks Jak glad you liked the video, if you have time please feel free to check out our other fishing videos and leave as many comments as possible. Regards Peter

so fantastic clip...we call that kind of fish (Giant trevally) "Te Urua" in Kiribati language....wish I can catch big one....Thank you, I am really enjoy watching it
I am sure you will if you keep trying as there are lots of big ones around. Its just about being in the right place at the right time. Thanks for your comments, hope you like some of our other videos Regards Peter
Bokeflo, thank you for your kind comments, it would be good if you also took at look at my other fishing videos on my channel you can find the link below. th-cam.com/channels/IidM3_S2SAdirwB8EuJbgQ.html
I know your an experienced fly fisher but i can't help cringing when you grab the rod above the cork ...lol ...awesome fishing and surroundings ,good job ;o)
Sean, I know what you mean, however sometimes with the 12 weight rod I need that little more power and by holding it up the blank I an shortening and stiffening the rod. Its a dangerous thing to do if you are not experienced as you stand more chance of busting a rod, but with experience you can get away with it. Also at the time I was field testing the new Hardy Proaxis pro type rods, which as you can see I gave them some serious stick. :)
Hi Sue thanks for your comments, we try to be as gentle with coral as possible as it also cuts us to pieces. It is manly all broken old dead coral around the areas we fish. Regards Peter
“ Never be disappointed at what grabs your fly”, words of wisdom there...
Michael, I am never ever disappointed at what grabs my fly as I love fish of all shape and sizes. half the fun is getting the take the best bit is releasing them again. What is your favourite fish to catch on the fly?
The fish looks innocent and they don't struggle when they are caught. Such a beautiful place. A magic place.
Sure is :)

Carl and Alex, keep saving hard and you will get there, you never know I might see you there. :)

wow, crazy good video! beautiful setting and great day! good to see some fishermen having good fun appropriating the sport and catching good fish! especially great to see him putting them back
Anthony Thanks for your kind comments glad you liked my video and its good that my passion came through. Regards Peter
really shits me seeing this, the reason is I'm one of those frustrated fishermen who have always wanted to 'sport fish' a GT, my one and only hook up lasted less than 10 seconds, long enough to see him jump and snap the line. I have caught just about everything else including Marlon,Sword fish, sharks but no bloody GT's...ok I'm a sad old man LMAO thanks great video mate
Thank you 🤙
Crazy

Matteo thanks for your great comments keep watching theres lots more to come
mate that's awesome and the best part is letting them go awesome fishing 10/10
milika togaca Thank you so kindly glad you loved it and thanks for the 10/10 :)
Peter, superb stuff but just a comment or two on your CAR technique;
First up to hold a fish dangling by its tail puts heavy stress on its spine with a high likelihood of permanent damage, also taking tired fish straight on of the water once it is dusted is like dunking a person's head into a bucket of water at the finish line after running a fast 800m, best to give them 30/45 seconds or so to recover in the water prior to lifting for the photo. Just a thought, but great footage nonetheless.
Thanks Gus for your comments and you make some very good points Regards Peter
Awesome video like the fish.. you so amazing fishing.. love this video..
UyPuihchangkho Thank you so much for your kind words, I am just trying to show people how exciting fishing is, not trying to be a hero or star just love sharing fishing.
Am I the only one thinking 'how it tastes like'?

Thanks for your such kind comments. Its an amazing place you must come oneway before it all gets spoilt.
It will be the first trip I make once I am able to for sure. Have you been back to this spot since then?
Oh yes Nick I take groups every year. That day was an amazing day thats never been repeated. Normally you are looking to catch 1 or 2 pr day, but on that day when filming I landed 13 GT'S but could not show all them as the video would have been too long.
Regards Peter

Great video Peter and appreciate your teaching!
Mike no problems, just glad people like my videos as that makes me happy, still can not get over how many people are watching them. Cheers Peter
I love fishing.. ....nd the video was great...
Thanks a million what types of fishing do you like. Regards Peter

Gosh love the fishes you caught there! .. But have mercy with the reef omg ;) Corals can't swim away.
Hi Sue thanks for your comments, we try to be as gentle with coral as possible as it also cuts us to pieces. It is manly all broken old dead coral around the areas we fish. Regards Peter
Would love to have the time and money to do this kind of lifestyle! Very beautyful Island, nice catches!! :))
Would love to see you out there one day. So happy that you liked our video and thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Regards Peter
