- The VW MK1 Caddy pickup is getting a new custom rear suspension setup, replacing the original leaf spring suspension with a more modern twist beam trailing arm axle setup.
To do this project we'll be using our SwiftCut CNC plasma table and Promecam 50 tonne press brake, along with some other tools...

🛠 ABOUT ROTBOX
Hey! We're Mat & Len, a guy and a girl from North Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. We love making stuff out of metal and building cars together.
What kind of cars do we build? We mainly work on modern classic cars (anything 80s- early 90s) and right now we're restoring and modifying a VW MK1 caddy pickup #thatslammedcaddy. We're down for anything metalworking related and always love to hear your suggestions for what DIY project we should take on next in the comments!
Thanks for stopping by, if you want to see more welding, grinding, hammering, plasma cutting, press braking as well as all the ups and downs of our fabrication projects make sure you subscribe by hitting that red button!

I just witnessed a new genre of cinema - Horror Resto-modding!
Mind you, all resto-modding can be horror-inducing. Regardless - great video from you two! Carry on!
Mike VeeDub 😂 cheers
8:30: welding while you’re lying under the car. My absolute fave’ position 😱😱😱 and I’ve been doing a lot of that lately
You guys are killing it!
Cheers! Trying out different stuff with every new video, hopefully people like it, or at least don't hate it!
what a creative film style! subbed :) p.s. love the caddy
Thank you so much! 😀
Would y’all be willing to send the specs and/or measurements over of the strut brackets? I’d love to have these made at a shop by me to convert the rear end to coils instead of the leaf springs.
Could u 3 or 4 link suspension the pen rear axle whit your new mount
Probably not
Hi, have watch all caddy videos. i will start my build pretty soon. just wonder, the custom floor plates u guys did. can u make them for sale? same with this video. plus how low can u go with ur setup? cuz i will install airbags on my or the new system air"bags" for coilovers. only lower/higher 50mm but thats enough for me. in the lowest setting i want it to almost touch the ground. sub and notfication on. keep uploading u doing a fantastic work :)
Thanks! On the setup we've got the sills should touch the floor, we wouldn't be looking at selling the setup until next year when we've had a good chance to test it
It's going to be turned into a back drive!
Nope still front wheel drive!
@@RotboxMetalworks What a beautiful engine.
Those strut brackets... ill buy some of them off you
Oliver Paton cheers 👍
With you guys around, it'll be a good time to own a Caddy. Or at least drool over your videos 🙂
Haha, cheers dude!👍
Is the trailing arm from the caddy... or from the donor golf?
Neither! It's from a Polo
@@RotboxMetalworks you got a video on that part? How does it mount to the body?
@@oliverpaton556 I was going to ask the same thing as well. The axle has just appeared in the rear out of nowhere. There has been a lot of work to get it to that point. Squaring it up and mounting it to hard points on the front of the frame which more than likely had to be fabricated also as that axle is non existent in a caddy. It would be good if it was explained how it got to that point.
Love the editing and music by the way - it really makes it too!
Sorry but this just seems like a Waste of time.
