Snow's name is *Darrin Kenneth O'Brien* an Irish-Canadian reggae musician, rapper. He grew up in Toronto Ontario in a Jamaican neighborhood. He wrote this song while incarcerated for 8 months and charged for two counts of attempted murder which he didn't do. Informer meaning a snitch, and *a licky boom boom down* take out/down the snitch. Love this song till this day, never gets old. Miss the good old days. Great reaction as always thank you ☺❤👍💯
I've always loved this song. It was released in 1992. Snow is from Toronto and from what I have heard; he grew up in the Jamaican part of the city. I believe he spent time in jail for a crime he didn't commit?!? - I think the song is about how they were trying to nail him for shooting someone and trying to get his friends to rat him out...
I was in senior in High School and this was E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E back then. Unlike today where people (especially Gen-Zs judge everything), back then we just took in everything and we loved them.
Snow... Darrin Kenneth O'Brien (born October 30, 1969), known by his stage name Snow, is a Canadian reggae musician, rapper, and singer. His 1992 single "Informer" spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.[1] Born and raised in Etobicoke, (One of the lines in the song) Toronto Canada. The song was about the time he was accused of being an informer and was being "Framed" fora crime. Backstory.. He has a troubled criminal past.
This song was a big hit in '92. Most of us didn't know what he was saying but we all loved it, even those who weren't into hip hop couldn't help but like it. The reggae flavor is what made it cool for me. "A Likki boom boom down"? It seemed like everyone had their own interpretation of what that meant.
Oh man, I couldn't stop playing this when it came out, was years before I knew what the hell he was on about, but it is just so catchy. When I was finally able to look up the lyrics on internet, I learned them ( I don't waste my evenings 🤣), and now it's still kind of a party trick where I can do the whole track perfectly. Anyone else? 😄✌❤
The man is seriously more gangster than most rappers who claim to he gangster. He was a true thug. This album was never meant to be serious for him. Unfortunately, because he was locked up when this blew up, he wasn't able to take advantage and get another hit this big.
Actually, part of the reason he was in jail when he saw his own video for the 1st time was he had hopped the border in violation of his prison release terms to record the album and video. Got busted when he came back.
:) I'm no judge or jury. I just like music in all it's forms and it's nice to see something different. How do you know if you like it or not if you avoid it because it's different??? :D If I had done that back in the 60's I never would have seen half of the stuff I just *love* re-experiencing today. :D
Let's Gooo! Such a freaking groove. Check out some other white guys that don't sound white when you close your eyes UB40 Red Red Wine will get ya 😅 Also please check out Tragically Hip New Orleans is sinking studio version please 🙏 (You know I'm not going to stop bugging you 😂) Great reaction and Peace out Steven 🙏 ☮️ ✌️

All right my brother Stephen.... I can certainly remember when this came out. I thought it was some kind of Bob Marley knock off, then I seen the video. Even I couldn't understand what he was saying but the groove was great ‼️💯🔥😁👍🏻
Try more like early 90s, either 92 or 93. He was pretty much a one hit wonder a few years after vanilla ice. Dont think many people were expecting a white canadian rapper inspired by reggae to have a top hit, but that's what we had. One thing that i will say is that the mix of music styles we had in the 90s is unreal. Pop, rap, r&b, country, hard rock, grunge, alternative rock, adult contemporary.....and that was just on the billboard charts.
You absolutely need to react to the Beastie Boys. Best selling rap group of all time, by far. Released 8 albums between 1986 and 2011. In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Unless you were a Canadian Jamaican, nobody understood what the hell Snow was saying. In 2019 Daddy Yankee made-up his own words and released "Con Calma", featuring the Chapkis Dance Family. And-----an appearance by the Snow-man himself!
I’m white Canadian but grew up in pocket of people from the Caribbean in Scarborough & I knew what he was singing about when this came out when I was 12. All about beating snitches. I think though because there’s a lot of Caribbean influence in Toronto more people than you think understand some Patois. Caribana used to be the biggest party of the year.
Hey bud!!! When this came out, I was in an Improv Comedy Troupe in Daytona. I came up with a Parody, with "Weird Al" type of Lyrics: "Transformer, I Know you're gonna Turn into a Train.... a Little Choo-Choo Now...."
A very popular piece, especially back then! It was heard everywhere, there was no escape from it, even behind the fence of the unit where I was doing my military service! 🪖📻🔊🔊🔊🔊

Snow also watched this music video in prison. The guys in his pod were excited to see it
Thank you for passing this info. Love this song but never knew much about Snow :)
@dherald1532 you're welcome ☺️
One of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures!

Snow from Etobicoke near Toronto. Grew up in Jamaican neighbourhood. Licky boom boom down slang -- threaten to unlive someone.
🇬🇧
This song was HUGELY popular here in the UK back in the early 90s. 🎼🎶
And in his home nation of Canada.

Snow lived in an area of Canada with a large Jamaican immigrant population and he grew up with the Jamaican music and accents so it influenced him
MTV seemed to play this non-stop in the 90’s. They had a video version with lyrics too at the time
Oh cool!! I love this song and his delivery is so unique! Very catchy! 😁
I remember it hitting hard on MTV with no lyrics but within a week they added them

It’s Jamaican slang for unaliving someone. The only ones confused were suburban white kids. ✌🏼

You have to check out Jim Carrey's spoof version called Imposter from the early 1990's TV show In Living Color
I think he called himself Snow because he's Canadian.
Nice reaction!
"I know this ain't gonna be for everybody" Track spent 7 weeks on number 1 if i remember correctly, i'd say its about as mainstream as you get :D
A real true NY classic song wit Mc Shan....good reaction love ur vibe my dude
Thanks so much!! 😁

Don't snitch period. Great song 💯🤘from Belgium 🇧🇪
Flashback
Jim Carrey actually has a hilarious parody of this called Imposter.
He's just a middle class white kid from Toronto, in spite of how he sound
He also doesn't look like the kind of guy who did time for beating another guy with a crowbar. Straight up pulled a Joker on the guy.

I was a fan of rap in the 80’s, then again I liked almost everything about the 80’s. Listen to the Fat Boys, with the human beat box.
All right my brother Stephen.... I can certainly remember when this came out. I thought it was some kind of Bob Marley knock off, then I seen the video. Even I couldn't understand what he was saying but the groove was great ‼️💯🔥😁👍🏻
❄️Thank You!!!
Snow did this while he was in jail for back to back murder wraps. Which he beat

Still waiting for The Outlaws Green Grass and High Tides " The Studio version
For the holidays, you need to check out "Riverbottom Nightmare Band" from Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas
Check out lady with the red dress on
1992/93 Licky Boom Boom Down.... I've been told means. Gun fire... Boom Boom / down = dead! But, what does a white boy from Denver know.... 😃
Haha 😂
Yeah he grew up with the Jamaican slang so it influenced him
Hey bud!!! When this came out, I was in an Improv Comedy Troupe in Daytona. I came up with a Parody, with "Weird Al" type of Lyrics: "Transformer, I Know you're gonna Turn into a Train.... a Little Choo-Choo Now...."
Haha 😂 Love it!!
Snow always in jail though! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Most rappers can probably play the drums
All of us in high school
" I lick your boom boom down"
😂
🤣😂🤣
Sounds like 32nds in there
💯 I think you’re right!
He was actually thrown in jail due to an informer
Oh snap!! 😳
