Tony Scott belongs with the best of the jazz clarinetists, absolutely. What a classic group with this recording; Evans, LaFaro, and Motian. One of the best Bill Evans trio groups. LaFaro was beautiful, Evans was beautiful, Motian a painter with sticks, and Tony blows his stream of notes with precision and abandonment.
It was a great pleasure to sing with Tony in Europe back in 1970-1971. His wife Pauline and I were great friends. They had two beautiful children. Those were great days!
In the Blue Room, below the Savoy Hotel. I was there most nights, too. With Irio on guitar, and Edith Peters singing "In my Rocking Chair"? and Mussolini on piano, and me, Jaime on 12-string guitar (brought in by Tony to add a bit of "folk" to the mix.). What a warm buzz there was in that room.
Grew up in NYC listening to Tony. From his early days in the 1940s following him untill he died. Amazing communicator with the clarinet and other reeds he played.
This is so very primitivecool, for me. I love Tony Scott's way of expressing his ideas on the clarinet, and he hits every emotive feeling that a listener may tune in with when you have time to relax and listen with undivided attention to any one tune, and get that 'in the mood' feeling. Thank you uploader!
I distinctly recall Tony Scott's visit to South Africa and plying and cutting a record with a band of penny whistlers that included Lemmy Mabaso who was then something of a teenage musical prodigy. I may even have that track among my stack of LPs.
His "softs" have spectacular qualities of expression and power! Damn, I'm learning s*i* here! Real expressions have rarely sounded so truely FRESH. KoOL.
Didn't know Tony Scott until now, but this is a gem of a song. Will check out each and every video on your channel now. Cheers n All the best from Sheffield, UK
I recall Tony Scott touring South Africa in the 1959s and cutting a record with a group of township musicians playing penny whistle, a gesture that did not endear him to white racists during apartheid years. We blacks loved him for that.
I always listened to Buddy way back in my day - now at 82 years of age, I'm compared with Tony More. I'll Take it! :) Mort Weiss SMS JAZZ "The Mort Report" @ All About Jazz

THe Best tune I love
Can die listening to this!
Tony is my inspiration.
Of course clarinet being so versatile we have many genius, but, still I keep listening to this.
Fantastic song for such a splendid morning with a cuppa green tea in my hand, no cigarettes, of course. Laidback as laidback can.

Happy Birthday, Scotty.
Found the video on Lars Schmid's splendid blog today.
Tony's most mature phase, I must say. This deserves more than a few hundred views.
Kudos to you!
The song was composed for a young friend,Cameron Makalanga called Pinocchio (scat singer), who Tony met in South Africa in 1957.
