Hey, just wanted to write you and say thanks. I did a timing belt last week on my 94 and the belts been squealing. Only after watching this video did I realize that I had improperly set the belt tension, because I was unaware that the timing mark to the left of the dorito was there specifically to set the belt to its proper tension before tightening it down. Thanks a bunch!
I am doing this job for the first time tomorrow, and I was so confused about the cam gears ⚙️ I couldn't understand how you get them correctly installed. This video explains everything thanks!!!
May I suggest that you slip the rubber cover for the tensioner spring be oriented with the thin slotted end on the right side of the spring. (the end that hooks to the stem on the water pump.) Thanks for all of the tips! I'd forgotten all about the tensioner setting mark. THANKS AGAIN. I used to rebuild 1966 and 1967 Triumph Spitfires. So I was very excited when Mazda introduced the Miata.
Had to watch it again to be sure. But, yes, well spotted. I’ve got the spring cover on the wrong way around! I cut my teeth on spitfires, still own a 1550 and a MKiv. Too many hours spent sitting on the front wheel balancing SU carbs!!
Are the two things that need to be in line the half moon and the triangle aligned and the intake can and exhaust can at 12 o’clock and then 19 teeth between each timing mark? Please respond.
So you start with #1 piston at TDC correct? Top of compression stroke or does it just become compression stroke when you set the cam gears to their marks? (My belt broke so not sure of any orientation at present) Also dawned on me in middle of the night (weird I know) 2 rpms of cams=1 rpm crank?
First Zylinder ground arest is left wheel the E the right outlet wheel is the I ,and there are also stripes in teh middle to see .....paint strips are not the correct arrest station
It depends on the state of the pulley. If it has recently been replaced then re-use it. If it is quite old or damaged in any way then it's false economy to not replace it.
It's definitely working and I'm interested by this method: having the short nose crank with fragile keyway (very early miata) I would prefer not to touch the crankshaft and this method seems to respect that. So can you explain why ?
Your timing belt method has been the best I’ve found on TH-cam. Super simple, quick and accurate . Thank you!!
He did replace a single seal.

This is the best video for Miata timing I was struggling and this was the only video that helped 🙏🏼

The timing was really making me not want to do a water pump change myself but now I get how it all works, cheers for that!
thanks for the video man just had to replace my intake cam gear on my 1.8 protégé and your video made it a 20 minute job
Half moon, dorito what a great video, possibly the best how to I've ever seen.
Happy days! lol, this is the best timing video i've found online! Thank you!
I didn't know about that side marker next to Dorito! I will try your method when I do my TB/WP change, thanks!
Yes. This is a nice touch. I don't think that anyone I know pays any attention to this.
Thanks for making this !! Very useful on my miata project
Great video. So much useful info. Thanks for making it.

You saved my day! Best video ever my man

Thank you for explaining things clearly.
Thanks for watching :)
Sensor for ecu, sender for an instrument with dial. Nice video mate.
best NA8C timing belt vid really !!! Subbed
Thank you!
Use a tripod mate, painful to watch you making life difficult.
I was REALLY missing my camera lady! Thanks for bearing with it.

when i put on the oem cam pulleys back on should the cams be a certain way or does that not matter?
Definately a sensor, it just exposes the data for the ECU to pull and absorb for processing!...The ECU is a 'puller', the sensor is not a 'sender' ;-)
I found a Miata for $75 that needs a timing belt. Would it be easy to change just that or is there more I would need to do?
How to put on a alternate and water pump a 2000 Mazda
Why were the seals not replaced?
Why go from adjustable cam pulleys back to the stock ones
Hey, how long does this all take to do?
is this tension mark on the 1.8 vvt? is it the same way?
Special tools required for me: 21mm pancake socket. Flying miata tools.
Thanks for Sharing!!!
how did you get the bolt off for the harmonic balancer
With a socket on a three foot 'cheater' bar!
Ottimo lavoro, sei un grande!! Great job! You are great!! :)

U could get two cresent wrenches and take pulley off but carefull on cams
Thank you so much, now I can do this at home !
Wait... Now he has to take it all back apart to take the backing plate off to put the water neck housing on. It attaches under that plate.... Damn
Except he doesn't because that engine has a coolant reroute. So.... the water neck housing has been deleted..... LOL
Is that 1.6l?
You didn't explain how to change the belt over the crank pulley
So you didn't actually change the timing belt?
Thank you for this, im doing it to mine!
When my coolant temp sensor went out on the back of my head, I had rough idle and it would die randomly
What year do you have?
Is it okay to use the old pulley or get a new oem pulley?
It depends on the state of the pulley. If it has recently been replaced then re-use it. If it is quite old or damaged in any way then it's false economy to not replace it.
Great video! Thanks
Grazie, molto utile.
Thanks you very much!!
Thanks
Idk I think I just vented some valves lmao I turn it and bang it turns fast asf but oh welllll
Hello Kitty I want
man I thought I was going to bile listening to you talk
Side cutters are cheap shite dude. That's what's wrong ha ha
a real carnage !!! do not reproduce that !!!!

What a dogs breakfast. Couldn't have been done worst.
