You can never. Ever. Go wrong with Dio on vocals. He always sings with his whole being. Always. It's sad to think what wonders might have emerged had this group stayed together. And I must add, rest in peace Dio and Cozy Powell. You are missed.
He was a true rock god. He died in 2010 at the age of 67. He was 5'4". An interviewer once asked him how tall he was. Ronnie replied "It's not the size of your pencil, it's how big you write your name" RIP, brother.
This is why they are one of my favorite bands. When you start reacting to songs from their live 1977 Munich concert, you will how really good they were. "Mistreated", "Catch the Rainbow" & "16th Century Greensleeves" are the standout songs from this concert, but they are all very exceptional.
This and Stargazer is why Dio is my favorite singer of all time! Also Sabbath, Falling Off The Edge of the World is top of the mountain 🗻 ❤️ 🤘. **also RIP Cozy Powell, one of the greatest rock drummers ever!
@@sabina1118 Try listening to Man on the Silver Mountain. It is a diversion from the usual Rainbow's track. More towards funky beat than heavy metal. It is one of my favorites.
Thank you for reacting to Rainbow. My first love is Deep Purple ever since I bought their album Deep Purple in Rock at the age of 10. But as soon as Ritchie Blackmore and Elf started Rainbow, I was a fan from day one. One of my favorites is Mistreated.
What a great Reaction to this amazing Song. Thank you, sharing it with us. In my Opinion "Stargazers" and this Song "Gates of Babylon" are the best 2 Songs of Rainbow.
First time watching your channel, new subscriber. Dio is a wizard who just puts a spell on you and takes you with him to whatever fantasy world he has business in. He has been my favorite vocalist for the past 40 years. Thank you for this, and for any RJD in the future!
He is an incredible vocalist who can deliver powerful high notes without his voice breaking, maintaining a rich and deep tone even in the higher registers.
Great choice! ♥️🤘🏻🔥🌈 My favorite thing is watching people react to Ronnie's mind blowing, soul touching vocals and the musicians playing with him. So amazing!! ♥️
It's one of the best Hard-Rock songs ever - I share your feelings 🥰 Gates of Babylon is indeed a great masterpiece. The lyrics describe the Temptation of Christ in the desert by the Devil < so the "middle eastern" music was appropiate and brings you right in the middle of the situation. The Divine vocals by Ronnie James "Holy" Dio, the superb Guitar by Maestro Blackmore and stellar drumming by the "Master of Rock Drumming" Cozy Powell himself made the magic possible. Such a shame that Blackmore broke it off - Rainbow was never the same after Dio left.
The lyrics DO NOT describe Christ in the Desert it is a woman and a dinner. DEVI means holy in sansctit The power before is Sumeria the civilization before Babylon. The song was inspired by Baal who plagued them to write this. ARE YOU AWARE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO HISTORICAL EVIDENCE THAT JESUS EVER EXISTED?
@@thomassblaquelourde9298 What does whether or not he existed have to do with anything? I guess songs about the Greek or Norse gods, or folklor ein general are stupid ebcasue that stuff isn't real? Or are you just triggered by the mention of Jesus? BTW, he was a real person, whether you believe the supernatural aspect about him or not is another story.
The band Rainbow were such an incredible group Rest in peace Ronnie James Dio and Cozy Powell and Jimmy Bain the powerful music is just timeless classic
This is a very interesting Rainbow song, enhanced by Ronnie James Dio’s sublime vocals. The songs introduction immediately conjures up a feeling of mystery and wonder…combined with the distinctly Middle Eastern flare. I love the way this song builds and builds with each verse…the accumulated power being released during the chorus. Rainbow were an amazing band, featuring some of the very best musicians. The line up alone commanded respect. And to think, this band formed from the embers of Deep Purple. Sabina..looks like you enjoyed this offering nearly as much as I did🤪🤪. Great to see the first Sabina reaction of 2023❤.
Hello and happy new Year Sabina Yes, Ronnie's Voice is so awesome and powerfull and the Amazing Rest of the Band, The legendary Cozy Powell (R.I.P), and last but not least my favorite Guitar Player of all Time Mr. Ritchie Blackmore. I wish You all the best and Love and Peaceful World
This is my all-time favorite song for so many reasons. I love Dio so much. And Blackmore's two minutes long solo is so good it's like ecstasy to hear and to watch. Thank you for sharing!
Hearing this song in the late 70s and watching your reaction took me back to that time. Jaw droppingly good. Blessed that such a talented group of musicians got together and gave us songs that generations will listen to. Pretentious you may think but sincere most definitely. Long live Rock n Roll 🏴Slainthe🏴
Dio, Blackmore and Cozy - can't get a better trio! You should try the live version of mistreated or the live version 1st part of catch the rainbow - Lady of the Lake is my fav from the album Gates of Babylon comes from.
Not just 1st part of Catch the Rainbow, 2nd part has most of the exceptional solo if you want the broken up version. I always suggest the the complete song that is not broken up. Happy New Year Sabrina. I'm so glad you are exploring more Rainbow. This song Gates of Babylon is up there in my top 5 Rainbow songs. I was lucky enough to see the band live on this tour for the album Long Live Rock N Roll....the gig was absolutely superb. This track was brilliant live. I do think the incarnation of the band with RJD as vocalist was the best .... although I did like Graham Bonnet the vocalist who sang on the next album. Looking forward to your next reaction. Peace and love from Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘☮️
Imagine someone would have told me when I was 14 that this is going to be appriciated 46 years in the future, mindblowing. I attended to this live in -77.... And it still works
Two powerhouses. The mighty Cozy Powell on drums. And of course Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Ritchie's solo is out of this world. Stylish is enough. Not the speed.
Drummer Cozy Powell R I P 5 April 1998, struck up friendships with fellow musicians like Robert Plant and John Bonham, future Slade vocalist Noddy Holder, bassist Dave Pegg and Tony Iommi. In his soloing, Blackmore combines blues scales and phrasing with dominant minor scales and ideas from European classical music. In May 1964, Blackmore married Margit Volkmar (b. 1945) from Germany. They lived in Hamburg during the late 1960s. Their son, Jürgen (b. 1964), played guitar in the touring tribute band Over the Rainbow. Following their divorce, Blackmore married Bärbel, a former dancer from Germany, in September 1969 until their divorce in early 1970s. As a result, he is a fluent German speaker.
One note of importance: Dio is singing live here, while the band mimes to backing tracks. Miming was commonplace back in the 70s for television broadcasts, but Dio refused to lip-sync and with his supreme vocal skills, he had no fear of tackling something this difficult live. R.I.P. to the King of Metal, Mr. Ronnie James Dio, so sorely missed.
And this is why Rainbow is one of the most underappreciated banda ever. It should be world wide recognized but it stays as sort of a cult band that a lot of people don't know it exists. Dio and Blackmore are more known for their work in Deep Purple and Black Sabbath/Solo respectively but oh well, glad you came to react to them. There are many more gems from them of course, specially the Dio era. For instance, Kill the King is a fast paced, amazing thriller of a song that could be considered early power metal. The live versions in Germany are particularly savage.
You should check out rainbow live in Munich Germany 1977 the song mistreated it's a true life version of the song and you can really see and hear the power of Ronnie's voice and hear the magic of Richie's guitar it's one of the best life songs you will ever hear
Just subbed for this band, im glad you like them. If you like that man's voice you HAVE to listen to Mistreated by Rainbow Live. Its his best performance you can find online that I know of.
Another Rainbow tune that kicks like this song is "Tarot Woman" from the Rainbow Rising album. I was fortunate enough to actually see Rainbow live in 1977... WOW what a show!!!
Well, two of my Rainbow´s favorite songs are "Death Alley Driver" and "Spotlight Kid", both of them sang by Joe Lynn Turner. I don´t know if out there are a live videos of these songs. Anyway, are great songs!.

Yeah, Rainbow was a pretty damn special group. I get what you were saying about worrying if other songs can stand up against Stargazer; that song is so good that I swear I sometimes, only for a brief moment mind you, forget Rainbow had other songs. Of course, this lineup is plenty amazing all over the place! Great reaction as always, Sabina! :) ps, you really should check out "Unleash the Archers" sometime. Their singer, Brittney "Slayes" channels a little Dio in her sound. The official sorta live studio version of "Apex" is the usual start, but if you want to jump in the deep end be blown away check out "The Wind that Shapes the Land." No video for that one, though.
This is not off topic. I was one of many suggesting that you react to Gates of Babylon. Since I did, Lovebites, who I know you’ve reacted to (only once sadly) have released a “comeback” MV with their recently recruited bassist, 20 year old Fami. The scales you like are “Phrygian Dominant”, and the song, Judgement Day, features them prominently. I promise you will like it.
Interesting note, Dio would join Black Sabbath after Rainbow when Ozzy was booted. Bob Daisley would join Ozzy after he was kicked out of Sabbath to start his solo career. Though it was originally formed as a Band called Blizzard of Oz. Both became huge successes
Great reaction! The next song i would recommend from them is actually their cover of Mistreated, Live in Munich 1977.
