If you want a sensible rig platform to start with look no further. Not sure if anything comes close. Rock solid! Now just waiting for my motors to come in to build actuators.
I can recommend adding the "Sim-Lab Sim Floor" as it adds some more rigidity and I find it easier to get out for some reason as well. I just added one to my P1 as well because the Podium DD2 it'd powersupply brick has an fan in it. So I added the plate to prevent dust and dirt get in the power brick and moved cables and powerbricks as much as possible out of view. Mind I also bought a Brenenstuhl 19" rack mount powerstrip, which I then bolted onto the aluminium. Together with a quality USB3 hub. So I only have 3 cables coming from the rig... 1 power, 1 USB and 1 VR headset cable.
You got me hyped for the upgrade, I'm currently usinng my Simucube 2 Pro with NLR 2.0 wheel strand due to space restrains, but I'm finally moving to a bigger room soon, and this will be my first upgrade. Good to know rigidity is not the only perk, but also getting the true details and fidelity of my wheel base. Cheers!

@@DavidGarcia-oi5nt I'm loving it! I've really only had one minor problem and that's the caster wheels that Sim Lab sold. The metal to set/unset the brake is a cheap aluminum and the brake levers bent to the point of not working any more. The casters still role but the brakes don't work. Outside of that small issue, the rig has been awesome. Easy to mount anything on and no flex with my DD1 and V3 Brake pedals. It’s far easier to put the brackets on the outside rails when there lying flat, then flip it up and attach to the crossmembers. Plus slide in the t-nuts first on every profile you can add t-nuts if you miss one like he’s showing👍
If the uprights are mounted to the outside of the base, with 10mm thick mounting plates, wouldn't that be 680mm total width, 600mm knee clearance width between uprights? 16:03
Again a very good review! The price point of that rig is INSANE! If you order the parts (replacing that frontal bracket with 80/20 parts) from any industrial supplier you‘ll pay about 350$. Yes, black brackets would go quite well here. You can always prep and paint them your self. Or have them anodized. I don't because I move things around too much to maintain the finish.
First of all, thank you very much for your informative and neutral product reviews. I have a specific question - I have now - also inspired by your posts - ordered a rig from Simlab - GT1 Evo - Which tool is needed very specifically for assembly - Allen key? Size? What kind of screwdriver slot or cross? And what sizes should be kept on hand? Have I forgotten anything? Thank you very much for your feedback. Manni

@@simracinggarage3026 Thank you for replying sir, This cockpit might be overkill for my CSL Elite but I'm just trying to future proof myself and the P1-X check all the boxes.
Hey Barry, you did it much faster than me, it took me ages to put it together, with no instructions... I was wondering if you could make a tutorial about driving position ( gt - formula) and specially where the pedals supposed to be compared to sitting position. I'm having my pedals quite high and using a load cell brake pedal is getting uncomfortable after some time.
I also prefer to put the seat brackets aluminum extrusion inside and flush with the rest of the sim to allow the seat to be 40mm lower. Allows for more room to adjust height of the wheel. Because for me the max wheel height is too short.
Do you have a picture of what you're referring to? I want to lower my seat more to be inline with my pedals without having to buy the upgrades to raise the pedals.
Thanks so much for the incredibly helpful instructions to build the P1-X. I purchased a Thrustmaster T248 which will mount to the flat wheel deck assembly. I'm planning on purchasing a Fanatec CSL DD and I was wondering if the flat wheelbase will be sufficient for the much smaller unit with less torque. You shared the benefit of the front mount assembly for the significantly larger Fanatec podium units and just wondering if the front mount is also recommended for the smaller CSL DD?
Hey so I have a request .. would you be willing to review the integrated triple monitor mount for the p1-x and see how it handles the motion sim your p1-x is mounted on???
You could probably ring up a local Steel/Aluminum manufacturer and have them make some up. And just buy the hardware from sim-lab if you want the cast brackets.
How would you mount the pedal plate etc if you wanted a formula position? Do you think you could do it with the adjustable angles that come with the P1X mount or do you think would require mods? Great reviews as always :)
I just thought of something: wouldn't it be cool if there was a rotating tray with (say) 3 sets of screw holes in a Dorito pattern, for attaching 3 different gear shifters and rotating the tray to choose the shifter you want every single time? I mean, cars have different sorts of transmissions (manuals, automatics, sequentials), so there could be 3 different gear shifters (a manual one, an automatic one and a sequential one) attached to one rotating tray. The tray could be rotating and when the desired gear shifter is selected, it could selectively be locked/unlocked to/from the right longitudinal members by a special key switch working a mechanism preventing it from doing unwanted rotation - this is for stability reasons! Woudn't this enhance immersion?
How well does this Chassis come packed-up for shipping? With nice black anodizing on the aluminum channels, the last thing I want are scuffs and scratches as it is delivered. Especially at the price they charge for the kit. Great video and so simple to assemble. By the way, where is this Chassis manufactured since I see all metric hardware and channels. Thanks!
Hi Barry, awesome, again ... Would you maybe know how to attach the Fanatec V3 Inverted Pedals to the P1-X ? Just 1 of the 4 feet can be attached to a teenut in the pedalbox ? (there's 1 hole for your screwdriver ) Take care .... Willem
Hi Barry! I'm a big fan from Portugal! :) Love the channel! I'm writing you for the first time seeking advice. I've bought a Simlab P1-X rig, Simlab seat, 4 monitors stand, 4 monitors, Fanatec V3 pedals, Semicube2 Pro basewheel and wheel itself. With all these boxes sitting around, please, what approach should I take regarding the order I should mount them all? Please, help me! You're the guy to point me the right plan of attack! Thank you again for all the good content!
Hi mate thanks for amazing video really helped me build the rig a little lost at the seat fixing I have a sliding adjuster do you think it is nessecary to fit one or think best without thanks Alistair
Not necessary. As the slot's width supports the cap head bolts well enough. I have used them in a pinch for spacing duties. If the bolt is a bit long for the channel.
I have been wanting a P1-x for quite some time now, being in Australia makes the total around $1400 AUD. including shipping... i just cant justify it so i'm waiting for black Friday to see if they help me out :D
Great review. I noticed your flightsim rudder pedals hanging on the wall and had a question... I'm interested in a chassis that could be relatively easily switched over from sim-racing to flightsim. What are your thoughts on this chassis system's suitability for this idea?
What a fantastic rig build review, if the peddle tray was the way SimLabs have it in their pictures wouldn't that give more scope to tilt it more at the back end ? Also does this come with the seat sliders ? Do you ship your T-Shirts to the UK ? Cheers Barry.
Hey Barry! Would you advise using washers for all of the bolt assemblies (M6, M8) or specifically using washers on the wheel mounts (like the podium mounts)? I hear some advise using countersunk washers or wedge lock washers, or it risks damaging the rig. Any advice?
@Sim Racing Garage the aluminum profile from Sim-Labs looks different from the one from JCL. What is the weight difference on profiles with the same length and what is more heavy duty?
Just wondering if you are going to do a review on the new monitor mounts sim labs have. With the new rig i have coming i have the single screen mount that attaches to the rig. For my asus 49inch monitor. But would be good to get your thoughts on the single and triple mounts.
Do you have any issues with customs or anything with shipping to the US? I know they are from UK, and that is the one thing that concerns me. I am thinking about Trakracer just to avoid any issues.
I noticed on Sim Lab's photo of the P1-X that they are using what looks like a seat slider under their pedal set. That seems like a really cool idea for very quick and easy adjustment of the pedal distance. But would that still be stable enough?
R there any rig which could be used for F1 type racing and GT type; not sure if I am asking the right question. Thinking if there is a rig which could let seating /mounting position change on the go.
First time I saw a review from you was a couple days ago. OMG, they are good. You remind me of an engineer, one that can explain complex things quick and easy. So I have an Obutto Ozone cockpit and upgraded from a ClubSport to a Podium DD base. I thought the steel tube frame was totally fine, till I cranked feedback to 100 and almost broke the rig. Question: Can I use this Sim Lab P1-X with that full motion simulator (Pro Simu T1000 5M - I think) you have pictured right next to this? Eventually that's the full motion I'd like to get, unless you can recommend something better. If I can invest in a better cockpit now, and keep it for the future, I'd be more likely to go for it. Thanks,

Has anyone found a reasonably-priced place to buy one of these (or a good extruded-aluminum alternative) in the US yet?
Looks like the price has jumped up a fair bit since this review was made.
Better to contact me at: info@simracinggarage.com
@@simracinggarage3026 I just did!
Hi mate thanks for amazing video really helped me build the rig a little lost at the seat fixing I have a sliding adjuster do you think it is nessecary to fit one or think best without thanks Alistair
barry -- washers aren't necessary when bolting up those angle brackets? i know they probably don't come with em, just curious.
If they do a Black Friday special I’m in too! 👏👏👏
15% off fellas get on it ! And that’s without seat
Great review. I noticed your flightsim rudder pedals hanging on the wall and had a question... I'm interested in a chassis that could be relatively easily switched over from sim-racing to flightsim. What are your thoughts on this chassis system's suitability for this idea?
Look at the Obutto R3volution cockpit might suit your needs
What a fantastic rig build review, if the peddle tray was the way SimLabs have it in their pictures wouldn't that give more scope to tilt it more at the back end ? Also does this come with the seat sliders ? Do you ship your T-Shirts to the UK ? Cheers Barry.
This pedal tray is certainly versatile. Set it up to suit your own needs and wants.
I got this instead of the p1x pro as did not like teh angled approach and less channels on the bottom 160 frame
Hey Barry! Would you advise using washers for all of the bolt assemblies (M6, M8) or specifically using washers on the wheel mounts (like the podium mounts)? I hear some advise using countersunk washers or wedge lock washers, or it risks damaging the rig.
Any advice?
Lol I never though you could put the tnuts directly in the channel. I always put them in from the ends.
Is it possible to build this with an adjustable seat mount? I'd like to have the option to tilt the seat forwards or backwards.
The Bob Ross vibe is strong here
@Sim Racing Garage the aluminum profile from Sim-Labs looks different from the one from JCL. What is the weight difference on profiles with the same length and what is more heavy duty?
Why are you aiming for 500mm id for chassis spreaders. Have the seat base rails been shortened now ??
Just wondering if you are going to do a review on the new monitor mounts sim labs have. With the new rig i have coming i have the single screen mount that attaches to the rig. For my asus 49inch monitor. But would be good to get your thoughts on the single and triple mounts.
The only tools that need an upgrade are the yellow black and deckers hanging on the wall ;)
Do you have any issues with customs or anything with shipping to the US? I know they are from UK, and that is the one thing that concerns me. I am thinking about Trakracer just to avoid any issues.
Would this be a worth upgrade to my current RSeat RS1? Im now using a DD and have some heavy flex in my rig, so Im searching for an upgrade...
I noticed on Sim Lab's photo of the P1-X that they are using what looks like a seat slider under their pedal set. That seems like a really cool idea for very quick and easy adjustment of the pedal distance. But would that still be stable enough?
barely any flex with my HE Pro's
curious why they have used the flat plate for the wheel uprights, any reason for this over tradition brackets?
Thanks,
Late reply, but this should be fine with whatever you throw at it with wiggle room for more.
That looks Hot!
Only a sim racer would say that... :)
1:36:10 for the actual review
My seat rails were only 500mm! Scratched already from sliding inwards! Aarrgghh!
