Those transparent green ploppy discs are gorgeous! These simple games packed in with action figures look like these things were created with such love. Thank you for covering this kind of stuff, Matty. No one else is doing it like you.
I did not, in fact, know that Mars Attacks was based on a trading card game. Also good on you for archiving these, it's a weird little slice of 90s history
There's a great book of the card art, and a link in the description to a PDF on archive. I didn't think archiving pack-in floppy disks would be my life's work, but here we are. I didn't choose the floppy life...
It actually wasn't a trading card GAME per say. It predates that by about 30 years. They were meant as an alternative to sports cards. They even came with a piece of bubblegum! Because trading cards have no ratings board, the creators could basically make the cards as R rated as they wanted.
I had no idea that there were 90s Mars Attacks toys. I knew that the movie was based on trading cards from the 60s that had some cool gnarly art, I knew about the Mars Attack comics, & I even knew about its sister series Dinosaurs Attacks & the crazy lore that accompanied it.
A good fact about Dinosaurs Attack: that was the film Tim Burton originally wanted to make. But then Jurassic happened. So he pivoted to Mars Attacks instead!
I had all 3 of these toys. I remember getting them in Christmas of 96. I still have the picture of them along with everything we got that year. My brother and I were obsessed with Mars Attack.
The cards are _awesome_. There is a Topps hardback book which has all the artwork, plus plenty of additional material. Probably cheaper and easier than collecting 60+ year old collector cards :D
Thank you for making this video! Watched it twice already. You posted within seconds of me searching for it. I still have all 3 discs but unable to play them these days. Used to play them quite often back in the day. I also still have 1 ID4 floppy on my gaming shelf. It was really a nostalgic trip watching this. Brought back quite a few memories.
That's really weird, how spooky! 👻 Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the kind comment. If you wanted to play them, you can set up a Windows emulator relatively easily, and the .img files are linked in the description 😁
I did not know these existed because I didn't even see Mars Attacks until years after its release. I'm going to download them and try them out now though so thanks for uploading the images.
You have no idea how much time I spent in my childhood traying to heal those stupid aliens. I searched through the years about any evidence about this game to see if I imagined it all. Glad I wasn't crazy
Wow, this really scratches an itch. I got the Mars Attacks! Spider for a birthday, some 2,3 decades ago. It was a kickass toy, I really loved it. But over here (Aus) they came with a CD. Bit of a problem: we didn't have a computer with a CD drive. My Dad was setting off to visit his brother a few states away, and he had a newer computer so he said he would take the disc and tell me what was on it. But when he got back he said he lost it. I always dreamt that there was something very special on that disc, and that I'd lost something highly valuable. This video dispels that notion lmao
Haha, I would say that there was something highly valuable on there! Questionable software! At least now you know. And if you're that inclined, you can follow my links in the description and grab the games yourself 😂😂
These are based on the Topps comics Mars Attacks rather than the movie. As well as the cards as you said. A funny thing about the robot spiders in the comic is they are indeed piloted by severed heads as you said, the spiders are massive tho.
the only game i had was Martian Emergency...i couldnt figure it out either (since i mustve only been 5 years old at the time) so id just end up switching over to SkiFree or whatever...
There was a line I edited out of the voiceover, which was something like "..Kenner were focusing more on Batman and Jurassic Park which are still pretty much the coolest toys ever". So I definitely understand 🦖

I don't think anyone else wants to haha. As long as I keep unearthing all this weird physical format stuff, I'll keep showing it to you 🎉
Holy shit.. WAR PLANETS! I wanted that so badly as a kid, but I never got any of the toys. You just unlocked a 25 year old core memory.
They're really cool looking toys!

I've never been so sold on so many things. I'm on the hunt for these toys and cards now!

@@MattyStoked I needed any reason to get back into card collecting. Now I just gotta get a binder!
I'm stoked for another cool Stoked video on weird floppy disc games and wicked plastic tat! Sick
You and me both! That's super nice of you to say. Mad appreciate you 🤘

Of course I remember War Planets! Mostly for the show, though. One of the most nuanced kids shows to sell plastic balls I've ever seen
Surprised to find a War Planets fan this early on. Big up yourself!

You're welcome! Let me know if you actually win that game where you have to save the Martians lives!
You have no idea how much time I spent in my childhood traying to heal those stupid aliens. I searched through the years about any evidence about this game to see if I imagined it all. Glad I wasn't crazy
There is at least two of us, now!

Haha YES mate, SkiFree was the BUSINESS!
The scene where the dude gets his finger bit off scared me into staying away from those toys at the time. Plus, Jurassic Park. My toys of choice!
There was a line I edited out of the voiceover, which was something like "..Kenner were focusing more on Batman and Jurassic Park which are still pretty much the coolest toys ever". So I definitely understand 🦖
Such a funny toy line. I'd love to see you do a video on Trendmasters Alien Hunters, basically Alien and Predator knock-offs :)
I'll check it out! Trendmasters had some funky lines back then. I've been looking at their Tarzan figures this week.
My favorite Mars-related toys were the Life on Mars series of sets from LEGO
Oh man, Mars Lego was sick! All space Lego is great, but I love the non-licensed Lego themes
Fun fact there is new mars attack game and is theme park sims
That's a great idea!
This could game could easily be a typing simulator🤣
I'd still play that!
3:35 It wouldn’t be Trendmasters without their missiles
Pew pew 🚀🚀
Be coolto upload it to a n64 cartage
I'd love to see the N64 running Macromedia!
Ploppy discs!
💩
Thumbnail says “games” plural, while title says “game” singular. Just a heads up, for cohesion and all that. :)
Hope you enjoyed the video
