I love growing crops - drilling, fert, spraying - but hate combining!
I've always enjoyed watching the harvest used to sit on the fence at the end of the garden as a child watching Mr ferneo in his old beaten up massey Ferguson dust everywhere(no cab) and fantastic noises from the combine ,all through the summer the harvest would go on , it's over so soon now , lovely time of year , great channel nick and dad ,all the best 👍

got be one of my favourite channels just shows how hard you guys and farmers in general work to provide the produce we need in our supermarkets as a delivery driver for a supermarket it nice to see this in its raw state before it gets turn into the products I deliver in my van

Brilliant video. Love this time of year all the different makes and models of combines being followed by clouds of dust. We are into our wheat crops a few more acreage of peas too knock off over the weekend. Then our claas will romp on with the 1600 acres of wheat to cut. Thanks for posting the video again looking forward to the next one. Regards to the family

Love to see the harvest coming in. Liked seeing the header being towed out of the shed. At this time of the year it can only mean one thing: harvest time! Would have liked a longer shot to see it all, but still a great video.

I wouldn't say carting with the TM was the short straw. Agreed, nice time of the year to be working on the land, lots to do and hearing those engines wind up :)

Could you do a video sometime on what types of crop / variants you decided to grow each year and the reasons why? Would also be good to hear what sort of rotation system you have and if you use an agronomy service.

As a stock farmer…(with some arable) I hate seeing straw being chopped…. Especially when its not in the crops like older varieties…
Is there much demand for wheat straw these days? We couldn't give the stuff away, but that was a few years ago!
Think it depends on area/price/transport costs…. At a cheaper/sensible price there will always be a demand!!

Hi, nick, great vid, dont you bother with the straw?
Seems like you have a lot more flexibility with the water content, with the drier and big grain shed..just learning about this but everyone else seems to be cutting at nearer to 8-10%. A lot less stress on your farm, great stuff!
Thanks Callum 👍 8-10% would be the moisture for oil seed rape, with wheat we want to get it to around 13-14% 👍

why are you not unloading the combine on the move??
We do sometimes, prefer to unload on margin/headland to reduce compaction, no point running all over field when we don’t have to 👍

My favourite time of the year too, love combining and carting. You seemed to whip through that field in no time. How many acres do you combine in a day on average/roughly?
Can do 100 acres in a long day, probably average 60-80 depending on yield and field sizes etc 👍

We only do it when combine can’t make it back up, prefer to unload on the margin/headland to keep compaction to a minimum
