Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. The thing with this review is the guy did 250 mi and drew all of these conclusions. I purchased my 2018 with 6 mi and now have 16,800 mi. I can tell you right now, this is one of the best all-around vehicles I've ever driven. I can make that statement being that I've owned 18 cars in my lifetime. This vehicle handles absolutely insane, has tremendous ability on the highway, is a terror in the cities, and is just so much fun to drive. On top of all that, the car's exceptionally practical with all of the space it offers, the four-door flexibility, the hatchback where the seats go down, and the confidence to know you've got the Honda reliability as well as dependability. I've taken on ramps and off-ramps at extreme speeds that I have never taken any other vehicle at. For the price that this car is at, you're getting a hell of a deal. Show me another car at this price range that can touch this vehicle's performance. Honda did a phenomenal job with this vehicle.

One car I think beats the Civic Type R at this price point is a 2006 Evo IX with low miles. Evo is a 13 year old car but it does make 350whp on 93 and 400whp on E85 with all wheel drive traction. Evo is reliable and seems to be going up in value now. If you need a newer car with a warranty, Civic Type R is hard to beat.
It is just an amazing car I don’t care what other people might think of it!

@@xFlared First of all the nurburgring record could be beat my many cars and people choose not to as performance around a single track generally and repeatedly has not translated well in other things. As in other tracks and daily life driving. I can get a wrx sti, a base Mustang gt, a 370z, camaro, focus st. And some of those listed are cheaper than 35k so you can modify them to surpass the type r... But if you're the type where you need to satisfy your ego and compete with a Ferrari than yea you need this car specifically... Because you can't have fun and be all about numbers. Numbers that don't mean anything because you're not a race car driver anyway and you should be focused on fun and avoiding tickets.
Oh and I guess the short answer is I can just get a veloster n or a miata.

Paddles are fun especially in sport cars, bmw for example, to teens like me and younger adult audiences. I like manual as well.

The Type R is the best daily sports car. So much room inside. I went camping with my son in mine once. We had a lot of room for a cooler surf board, my husky and my son lol Dads at the camp site were coming up to me asking about my car lol One dad was like, "Dam wish i had that car instead of a minivan" lol

Actually that color seems to mute the looks, but not hiding anything. Good thing. To me it's been always too much, but now look like I could live with it.
The color doesn't film well. You really have to see it in the sun. It's got a green pearl to it. It's one of the more interesting colors I've seen on a factory car.

I learned on a manual and every car I have had since age 16 has been a manual. Started on a 1983 Honda Accord hatchback with a 5 speed manual......30 years later I am on a 2017 GTI with a 6 speed manual. There is a segment of the US population that has loved the manual gearbox all along.

This means there is no incentive for Honda to manufacture anywhere in Europe as cars can come from Japan duty free. Honda is closing their Turkish plant as well. The world is being 'globalized' at the behest of greedy, amoral corporations like Honda and the bloodthirsty investor class.

I'm glad you're loving the car. So far almost every review whether from a journalist or enthusiast or TH-camr have loved this car.
As far as the gear grind, ppl are having them while speed shifting(like when your drag racing and you have to shift quick) into 2nd or 3rd. I had mine at 1068 miles shifting fast into the highway.
I haven't had it since and im at 3000 miles or so. I shift more for smoothness(like when on a track) than for speed.

Edit: surprised at all the answers. I spend half my time in stop & go, and my '17 Civic has never gotten less than 350 on a tank.

That's a whole tank of gas and almost a quarter tank in my honda. I can hit about 225 to 235 miles on a whole tank of gas for my Ridgeline. Little bit of a gas hog, but that's okay. It does what I need it to. From my experience, honda is one the best vehicles to have. I absolutely love Honda Motorsports.
I get about 270 a tank in the R.
This is a high-output 4 cylinder vs your 130 HP civic lol turbos will suck gas and if you're pushing it then the range goes down.
You're comparing a regular Civic to the Civic Type R? Why would it get the same gas mileage?

My experience with the Type R. (i work at a honda dealership so i drive these often). Its a visually cool looking car with decent power. my only complaints are all the fake vents. and when i say almost all of the vents are fake i really mean it. the clutch also feels like there’s no weight to it it’s way too light. it’s a beast but it actually turns on a dime. in all honesty i’d rather go for an accord 2.0 it has the same engine just different cams and a smaller turbo and it’s like 15k cheaper

I don't have a Type R but I do have an 18 Hatch Sport 6sp. I really, really enjoy my Civic. I thought I'd never say that in my life, growing up hating on them.
only downside to having 305 HP civic type R is its front wheel drive only. the 2009+ acura TL 3.7 AWD comes in 305HP as well and with all wheel drive and used ones can be 1/3rd the cost of the type R.

I own a Type R and i can confirm this car is the best FWD car in the market rn. The track is where she shines the best. But dragging racing her against STI's is super fun. They cant keep up, considering they are heavier with the AWD

I just bought a brand new Champion White Type R. Love it. You mentioned you are curious to see what they do with this car in the future... the Type R only ever lasted for a single gen model. If Honda makes an 11th gen civic Type R, I will be upset. They will be killing the history of the R and turning it into a cash cow. This car needs no changes. Honda absolutely nailed it. @@planetfabulous5833 Typical for a Honda. Sounds slightly better than my 2018 si. Its not amazing. but it is definitely anywhere near the realm of bad. decent bass from the sub and good mids. decent highs from the tweaters. pretty good as long as it is not turned up

The Civic Type R is an absolute masterpiece, and people should respect Honda for this car~ Performance is excellent, and at the end of the day, it's still a Civic that is super practical :)
If this was AWD I would have gotten this instead of my 2018 WRX! And I love my wrx but this car is just insanely cool!

prototype3947 They squeal from the time you take it out the factory. If you don’t want it to squeal then you downgrade to a cheaper pad. I wouldn’t recommend it though lol. Brembos performance pads are known to squeal but I can guarantee you it does it’s job perfectly. It use to bother me but you get use to it quickly 😎

The looks are true to Honda heritage and culture in the sense that Honda styling has always been out of the box so I don't know why people are complaining. Just look at the FN2. I own a normal DC5 and boy am I a fan of Hondas now. I really love these cars they are so reliable and fun to drive and if only I had the money, I would seriously consider one of these, they look absolutely mean and would probably be one of the most fun and best cars out there.

Something incredible is how free revving the Type R engine feels, it makes the STI engine feel like a dump truck motor. I am very tempted to get my heads modified and maybe some oiling upgrades to allow for higher RPMs with a tune... 10000rpm would be my dream in this car. Just drove my car through the NY mountains up and Hawks Nest.... LOVED EVERY MINUTE.

I bought a 2017 Accord V6 manual coupe in part because of your POV reviews (wheelspin in 3rd 😄); really fun motor and transmission, easy to live with. A deer totaled it yesterday though so I’m in the market again.
My head says Type-R but my heart says NC Miata (the only one I fit in) or 86.
Dang it! The Accord V6 is such a sweet daily. Go test drive them all!

This car is the perfect example of a Japanese sports car. It is loud, revvy and has the sweetest gear shifts.
It is a car that feels faster than it actually is.
One thing for me is always a let down is that it is a FWD. I don’t like FWDs at the limit.

I currently have an ND1 RF with a flash tune, header, and a few appearance mods. I love my ND, but I’ve been in love with the CTR ever since my coworker let me drive his 2017 through some canyon roads. I can afford having both cars, but my wife would NOT be happy if I had two toys. I’m waiting for the 2020 to see what the changes are, if any.

I have a 2016 civic ex and that thing has some serious grip on the road also. Probably not nearly as much as the type r but still a very solid feeling vehicle with good handling and acceleration
