The single biggest thing I’ve found that causes micro bubbles is the use of bioballs or any other type of media that floats. Even if you cram the compartment full and then stick a medium or fine sponge on top to hold them in place you’ll still have bubble.. most cheaper canister filters come with the crappy floating bioballs.. remove the balls and add in another layer of medium and corse sponge or replace with small ceramic media.. this will solve 9/10 issues.
You can verify it’s a media issue by shaking your filter when it’s running. If it produces a large burst of bubbles then your media is a type that holds air and always will. Simply change it for another type.
If you are getting bubbles and it doesn’t change with shaking the filter then it’s most likely a seal issue and your pump is sucking air from somewhere.
These two above issues are the reason for 99.9% of micro bubble issues.. this video is actually for the .01%
If you are looking for why you have bubbles collecting and floating around surface contact points that’s excessive protein in the water and you just need to do a gravel vac and small water change..

You are wrong as well. Microbubbles makes corals healthier by a good percentage. It also increases the bioavailability of oxygen to your fish and cleanses nitrates out.

Perfect video, I may have to many floss pads stacked on each other. I used a turkey baster with the pumps off to knock air out of the sponges. Thanks for the great video

I tried everything and then looked at my compartment my pump was in. A steady flow of water was pouring onto one side of the pump. I thought water falling causes bubbles, so turned my pump around to face the opposite wall, away from the falling water and BINGO! No more bubbles. Hope this helps someone else who is pulling their hair out over this.

I have lost of bubble but they are stuck on my internal overflow box what is causing this? also I drilled a Lil Hole on my return that shoots the water back into the mine display tank. I was told that this is to avoid back siphoning but then I cover the hole with my thumb and the bubbles stop but if I uncover the hole the noise is louder and a lot of bubbles come out just like in your video. is there other way I can do this. TIA

Hi. I've heard from time to time that microbubbles could kill fish and corals. Is this true? Because I love to see the bubbles but did not dear to have them because of this information. Thanks.

I don't think it's good for the fish to get air bubbles in there lungs ! You think it could stress a fish ?

Omg, micro bubbles do not harm fish or coral’s. In fact, some reefers add an airstone to help with gas exchange. The examples in this video is just a plumbing issue where it is sucking in unwanted air into your system. Now if you have micro air bubbles on your rock work that you have no idea where it came from, get ready for an algae bloom. (Photosynthesis)
