Panzer playtrough!!! 🤩 the german tanks on the hill are on a plateau 39:00. There is no los. For the damage dice roll effect you have to look on the data card of the attacker 47:00.
@@HexedAndCountered 🙂The artwork is too dark on some of the counters. It blots out the fine detail so you can’t see which way the main armament is pointing. Thanks again for your work. Cheers.
Nice to see this played. 👍 I played the original Yaquinto version back in the early 80s, so this is a much-needed refresher. I have the base game and all of the expansions and am looking forward to getting back into this game. The only things I noticed was you often forgot the target size modifier; not sure if that would have made much difference. I think I will make myself some kind of checklist to keep track of what the die rolls are for with so many steps to look after (hit/location/penetration/bail out) You also only rolled for bail out when nothing happened - should there not also be bailout checks on the damaged tanks? Thanks again for the walkthrough.
Thanks - and yes, I did forget the size modifier more often than not (I think I did remember it at least once, lol). Using the advanced game rules for combat does take a little getting used to as there are multiple steps. I imagine after a while it all becomes second nature. And yes, there should have been bailout rolls for the damaged tanks as well. I think I forgot them because when it came up I looked up the optional rules for turret or hull damage, decided not to use that and then forgot to do the bail check.
I'm watching your videos to try and decide if I should get Panzer North Africa (I love the North African theatre), and to be fair, I'm a little undecided. The maps look kinda bland, and I'm not sure how you have a hill which is essentially a pancake - one height all over and that extends for more than one hex in every direction. It's like the tanks rolled on to the top of a mesa, which seems kinda silly. Combat also looks pretty fiddly - lots of die rolls and table checking. Hmmm......
The maps are muted for sure and I get where you're coming from on the terrain features and the combat. I've always felt that geomorphic maps put designers in a tough spot because you need them to be flexible in various combinations so it can limit what they do with the terrain features. I just think of the flat hills as ridges with some undulations in them that are below the scale. As for combat... there's a lot of depth in there and that makes it somewhat complicated/fiddly. Definitely not overly simplified so I think it's just a necessary tradeoff - more die rolls vs. the desire to account for the various factors involved in armored combat. Ultimately it really depends on the individual playing the game. Just because I like it, doesn't mean everyone will. North Africa is going to be a standalone/core release, and won't rely on any of the previous releases. I don't know whether that means there'll be any new mechanics (my guess is not really, maybe some tweaks but the system's been around for quite a while now). I'm really looking forward to it. I don't know that any of the above would help you make a call. I will do some videos on the game (and of course others will as well) when it's released so perhaps a wait & see approach might work.

Thanks!
The French tanks are moving backwards! Thanks for the video!
LOL, that figures. Guess I can't tell a French take's front or rear!

@@HexedAndCountered I look forward to your videos on North Africa, as you say, a wait and see approach is probably best. Thanks for your reply.
Those French tanks are revisionists! They do not know what's good for them!!! Terrible rolls for the Germans indeed 😂
Those 80s I rolled for the Germans on the to hit rolls were killers. Apparently we had some gunners who failed target practice.
@@HexedAndCountered One wonders where the term "stormtroopers for Star Wars" comes from :)
