I used to play a horror survival game called Fatal Frame. There was quite a few creepy sections but the Torri gate in the game was creepy AF and also fascinating. Awesome video subject.
When I visited there, I was really curious about the shrines. This explains them much better. There’s a few more strange things I’m curious about, but this covers one of my biggest questions. Thanks, J!

Yoooo I love this collection! It slipped my mind completely that stories can happen here too especially when we just had our own experience at Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Shrine on our recent trip.
Sorry it took awhile to get back with my personal story but here we go: (I didn't expect it to be this long) So we decided to save the Fushimi Inari shrine to visit last for our Kyoto day trip since it was one of the only places open 24/7 in the area and we didn't want to miss visiting it. We took our sweet time getting there since we had a hectic day of hauling taxis to get around Kyoto and cover as much tourist spots as we can, it really hurt our wallet so we opted out of getting another cab to the shrine. We got to the shrine around 8:30 PM, there weren't a lot of people in the area and the streets are quite empty on a Sunday night. We took photos as we walked further inside the shrine and as we reached the start of the corridor of Tori gates, I have a weird time having my video focus, its just blurred but nothing too creepy. The area was dark, if you've been to the shrine, you'll see that inside the corridor, there's evenly spaced lights inside but other than that, it's dark. If I remember correctly, we entered with a couple and a small family of 3, ahead of us, at the the intersection where the corridor splits into 2, there was a group of old people; grannies and granpa. I'm not sure how many they were but I guess there was 3 or 4 of them and my friend told me after that they were deciding which way to take, they decided on the right path. That's where we decided to stop since going up to the top of the mountain would take 3 to 4 hours and we will miss our train home. There were 2 of us, me and my friend, both girls. I posed for the first photos inside the way we came from so my friend was facing away from the intersection taking my pictures. By this time, there were no one else but us in that area. As we continued to take photos, I keep seeing shadows behind her moving across the intersection where the corridor opened up to split into 2 ways. The shadows doesn't go in the corridors, they pass through the open space of the intersection and it was very quick so I thought I was just seeing things, I didn't mention it to my friend. We switched places after and we kept the mood light hearted but the silence was eerie, I even joked a pose looking back towards the entrance of the corridor saying "Pretending I see someone there". My friend's demeanor didn't change since she's a naturally calm person but she got scared when she switched to the front cam for a selfie, she said she thought she saw something or someone there. We brushed it off with a laugh and went back the way we came from. After passing through the entrance of the corridor, there's a small shrine building to the right where we saw an old lady, the typical small almost half your size Japanese grandma. She was wearing white and carrying or wearing a lot of bells. Every step she took, her bells rings out. These are tiny metal bells, I couldnt see the exact placements of it if it was on her clothes or if she was holding it since there were 2 men also in white surrounding her sides, like her companions talking to her but I couldnt hear what they were saying or if they even spoke, I just remember the sound of her bells. We passed by them as we went down the stairs until we got to the point of the small building display of a large horse deity inside beside a fox statue on the left side of the stairs where we stopped to take a picture earlier as well. This time I stopped to take a front photo of the fox statue, directly behind it was the forest and there, I saw shadows moving on the left, there was no mistaking it this time since there was ample light above me and I was using my phone close to my face. That's where I told my friend; "There's something here". My friend suddenly dashed her way down the stairs without me, she was almost running and I was tripping in panic to follow her. She stopped for a moment to tell me "Don't talk about it here" and continued her fast walk until we reached the bottom where the fountain to wash hands with (Temizu-ya) are located. I was trying to get her to talk cuz I was scared as well but she kept silent and washed her hands in the freezing water and as she did, she told me the old prayer she got from a shaman to close her third eye isn't working. She hasn't seen a ghost in years that's why she was really scared when I mentioned it. We went to the convinience store across the shrine and defused there until we were confident to walk back to the station in the dark. Later on the trip, some days have passed, she told me what she saw. She said that when we were in the corridor and I was posing, to my left, outside the pillar of the gates, she saw shadow people going down the mountain. Compared to what I saw, hers was more solid where she can see the limbs and heads. There was one shadow that she watched as it went and when she spotted it, the head turned around to face her. She was thankful she couldn't see a face but it scared her to be noticed by it. She didn't say anything to me at the time because I was nearer to it and she didn't want it to know that she can see them. She also told me that the old people we saw when we arrived at the intersection were probably not human as well since why would old people be going up the mountain at that time of night and based from our observation, Japanese people likes to rest early. She said the two men surrounding the old lady also weren't human; her reason being the old lady was walking like she wouldn't bump into anybody, just walking normally as if she was alone and she wasn't acknowledging the two beside her. I believe her since she really can see ghosts way before this experience. I also showed the pictures and videos I took there to another friend with a strong third eye and he did see entities in some of them. He said that in the front picture of the fox with the forest behind it was particularly scary since the entities were looking directly at the camera hatefully like they wanted us out of there. So yeah I guess visit the shrine in day time if you ever visit lol
You are my very favorite, I feel like you are my buddy with how often I hear your voice LOL since I have started back at university I have barely had time to listen but the good thing is I can save up a few videos and binge them. Thank you !
Those were FREAKY SCARY!! WOW!! Thank you J Nightmares for those creepy but very interesting stories. I thoroughly enjoyed them. I will catch you next time 😊
Hooray for hearing about shrines on this channel. I liked the “how to curse someone” ritual story best. Forbidden/dark rituals is my favorite sub genre of “creepy pastas”, and I wish there were more indie horror games devoted to this subject, particularly rituals in Asia.
Unfortunately, I don't think the curse will go through as there is only one nail in the effigy (the effigy pictured after story one). I hope whoever did it is alright.
The ushino kokumayiri is kind of similar to kulam here in the Philippines but a little bit different Btw youre stories are good Sorry for my bad English 😅
Well, if You live in so called West you probably should think about your own politicians and about their actions. I am Polish, I have relatives in Belarus, and I'm convinced that the effigi person is actually a good guy. I pray for his health and wellbeing. Good stories BTW. Don't spoil them with politics.
The fact that you describe the mechanics of a curse is so very unsettling to me 😦
Ah yeah I had to do my research!
How else would we learn to curse people? 🤔
