    it appears that the charizard statue "wagged" its tail and flapped it's wings, the material at the base of the tail and wings are wrinkled, which most likely means they were points of movement, because a rigid material would not be flexible. Also, when showing the mockups of the animatronics on paper, I noticed that the chariazard model is the same model used for a jumbo corocoro entei card.

    @3:12 The fan art on the wall behind the cashier - around a month before they closed, the pictures covered the entire back wall and the two side walls. What a fun place that was.

    Super interesting stuff. I love hearing about the history of niche things and early pokemon is very nostalgic for me. It's a real shame that stuff like this tends to get lost to time.

    Great video! Very informative :)
    If I may comment, the Mewtwo "statue" looks very similar to the design of the Mewtwo costume used in the "Pokemon Live" stage show. I could be wrong, but it's perhaps the same costume mounted for display on a mannequin etc, haha.

    • @MewisMe700
      @MewisMe700  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Huh. That's a really interesting point. Pokemon Live had stopped touring by the time the store opened so that is a strong possibility.
      I believe the Live costumes were owned by the production company and not Nintendo, since many of them were recently found in an abandoned theater in Canada. I am curious how the store would have acquired the Mew Two.

    i was there as a kid and i very specifically remember the pikachus nose moving! it stretched the mouth with it which kinda maade it look like it was talking.
    interestingly enough i do remember someone having a similar animatronic at a bar mitzvah i went to in around 2007. i specifically mentioned how it looked like the one from the pokemon center and everything. i sadly no longer have contact with the family to check if they remember the company they might have rented it from. i also don't have pictures of my own, but if i find anything ill let you know!

    I just realized the Pikachu plushie i've had as long as I was able to remember (literally like 1 years old) is from PCNY. Someone (brother/parents etc) bought it for me when my brother went, and even though I don't remember I really wish I got to be in the store even if I was a toddler. At least I have my friend as a keepsake.

    just watched ur vid and funny thing about the toys r us store you mentiond. I was just watching a history of it last night on youtube and in 2002 I was in NY 5 months after 9/11 and walked by that store and seen the giant ferris wheel as I walked past and was like "What the?" thought i was seeing things. Was also at the center and the shot you got of mew two in the window. Took a joke pic of me standing beside it holding a map pointing at it and looking at mew two as if to ask directions. My capton for that pic was never ask a pokemon for directions. That store was the beyond words for the average pokemon fan. Still got a collecters limited edition store commeneration pin badge to this day in prestene condition. Also seen where you said that this was the only known photo of the mew two statue. Ive still got that photo somewhere and if you wish I can scan it and send it to you via email. Just let me know

      I mean, technically the term is "po-kay-mon, po-kay-ball"
      But kids who grew up in the 90s were confused by the é. Literally everyone i ever heard say it in the early days said
      Po-kuh-mon, po-kuh-ball, etc
      It varies from person to person 😂

    pokemon was a trend and trends do die. pokemon was not that popular with the games either yeah it made over 10 million copies with each game but do you see or hear people talk about it out in public no. when pokemon go came out it was trending because of nostalgia, now you barely see people play the damn game. The reason why the pokemon center failed because pokemon was not new anymore and in america trends change quickly

    • @MewisMe700
      @MewisMe700  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not actually true, Pokémon continues to be the highest grossing media franchise of all time, even surpassing star wars. The store had many issues unfortunately unrelated to Pokemon being popular or not hence the closure.
