      Body Integrity Identity Disorder 100% has to be recognised as a mental illness, because medically speaking me cutting my hand off in a bandsaw is clearly the result of mental illness, but doctors told me because its BIID its not an illness

      She strikes me as autistic, and I wonder if this was her way of dealing with a severe sensory disorder. If visual input was absolutely overwhelming to her brain it would make sense that ridding herself of that would feel calming to her. Not to mention also having the inadequacy of brain mapping that typically goes along with BIID.

      But for them to be viable for someone else to use, they would have to be harvested by an ophthalmologist who knows how to do transplants. The chances of finding a backwater doctor to perform an illegal kidney transplant is one thing since there is such a large market for it, but the chances of finding one to perform an eye transplant who is also capable of keeping the eyes viable is slim to none.

It would be impossible for the girl doctor to be the queen of England, just as it would be for Jewel to be blind if she could see. Difference between her and the doctor would be that she has a mental disorder and the doctor doesn't, so nothing is compelling her to be the queen of England unlike it is for Jewel to be blind. There.

Yes, of course it’s wrong to be sad, it’s wrong to cut yourself or to think you have to lose half your weight, but do you go around and judge people for having cancer? No, I don’t think you do. So what was this comment for? Sorry for being so salty, but your comment really upset me ... people need to be more aware of mental illness, I think there is a serious lack of education 🤔

    This is bullshit. Many people in my family have eye issues or are completely blind, including myself. I'm close to being blind and within a decade I may be. The fact that she would say having sight is restraining or hindering her freedom to live is enraging. Me and everyone who has eye issues or is blind would kill to have perfect sight. I legitimately hate this woman for this. And for Dr. Phil to try and justify this and say she is perfectly sane is absolutely ridiculous. She has a mental issue that shouldn't be fixed by mutilating her body. Absolutely absurd.

    • @christinac86

      I'm really sorry to hear about you're "eye issues". I completely understand why this video would make you mad. But with all due respect you do have to understand that just because you don't want to be blind doesn't mean everybody else also doesn't. Bare with me for a second. For example some women are born with extremely large breasts and others with the exact opposite. There are some women who cannot handle their large breasts due to the pain of them. But then you have the girls with the small breasts who will seek breast implants to get exactly what the other girls no longer want. All this to say that something that someone might hate is what someone else might long for. And hey if it makes her happy then why should we care? Anyway once again I'm sorry for your eye problems, and I hope that you understand my point, as I do understand yours

    • @kishinasura3962
      @kishinasura3962 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      andreana .t. I understand what you're trying to say, but to compare something that has no effect on your will to survive isn't the best way to form an argument. We have 5 senses for a reason. We NEED sight. We don't need big or small breasts, although we do something there, even if it's just flat. Maybe if she didn't horribly mutilate herself, just maybe I could feel differently. But it's hard to sympathise with someone who had no appreciation for something so important that a lot of people don't have or lose without choice.

    • @andreana.t.8118
      @andreana.t.8118 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Hel Heim you make a good point and maybe my argument wasn't the exact best, but I do think it was a good enough analogy to describe why I don't think this woman is absolutely insane. All I'm trying to say is this lady clearly does have a psychological disorder, one that people like you and me can't exactly understand because we aren't in the same position. We don't know how she feels, and we don't why blinding herself makes her happy but it does, and if it's not exactly affecting us then why care? Anyway I guess we can agree to disagree.

      I feel in my opinion this is due to the fact that we privilege society have too much free time. Time to think nonsense. If you look at people who are indeginous like the Mayans. Do u think they sit there and say , "I think I want to he blind". Ofc not, because they have to fucking hunt and feed there family. The same example would be said with genital mutilation. People are idiotic when they have the luxury to think too much. Some has good ideas and some are bad to say the least.

And not just sight other physical abilities. And to see someone whose eyesight wasn't perfect but better. It must make her feel some pain. And there are some cases where people who aren't born blind actually lose their sight and it's not due to health problems, but abuse, torture, accident etc How can she not feel confronted by an action like that. I believe in the existence and validity of BIID after watching a very thorough documentary on the subject. Apparently they did very advanced brain scans of the sufferers of BIID, and they showed that whatever body part felt alien to the person, would not show as "registered" very clearly in their brain scans. In other words, all their other body parts would show up as accurately recognized and "accepted" by their brains, but not the conflicting body part. For a person not suffering from BIID, it would be like having a giant horn growing out of your head that wasn't supposed to be there. Anyone would want the horn removed. That's basically how it is for a person with BIID. Their body is telling them they have a part that should not be there, so they want it removed. It was a fascinating documentary, but it was also very strange and somewhat frightening.
    With that said, I don't understand why this woman couldn't have simply worn black, opaque contacts that would essentially "blind" her without actually blinding her. I'm sure such a thing exists. That way, should a successful treatment or cure come about for BIID, she could simply stop wearing the contacts. At this point, her vision is destroyed and not salvageable.

    • @Mimi-xw3xt
      @Mimi-xw3xt ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is possible that the brain is not working properly. That's literally the case with every other form of insanity, such as with Schizophrenia, the brain registers things that aren't actually there. When the brain isn't functioning as expected or as it should, that's what we call insanity. BIID, Gendery dysphoria, schizophrenia, are all forms of insanity.

    She has BIID and some other very severe dysmorphia, which is a common psych. ailment, yes, but always unique to the individual. I remember when my mental health was at it's worst I regularly thought I'd feel more comfortable in the world if I was deaf or blind or mute or invisible. How could you not understand that? So many people act like they're accepting of mental illnesses and problems but forget they can make you do terrible, unreasonable things to yourself and others. Her BIID made her do this.

    She may have this BIID. She may also have low self-esteem issues and/or be crying for attention. I have social anxiety disorder. It has occurred to me my social anxiety wouldn't be as bad if I were blind. I wouldn't see the people's reaction in real time while a conversation is taking place or when I public speak. I have never thought about blinding myself, though. But I might be able to relate to this woman in that sense. To an extent, if I can't see it, it's not there. Low self-esteem is a common denominator with social anxiety disorder. Not saying she has low self-esteem, but there is a possibility she does, and that is what is really going on with her.

I could not imagine anyone to want to be blind.my eye sight might not be all great but I will take it because I can see my children, nature and other things. When got my sight back I spent hours out side looking at the trees, birds my little playing outside. We take our sight for granted. I love to outside now.

    People don't have their heart beating out of their chest because to have sight is a gift not only that but when people have gender reassignment it doesn't effect people in the same way, to take your sight away and be so selfish when other people can't see is outstandingly wrong. That is classed as self harm. She could have had cbt or something to change her thinking. But no, she blinds her self.

    • @thetravelcrunch
      @thetravelcrunch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with you completely on that...I just had a thought though. When someone takes their own life, feeling that is the only way "out", don't we feel sadness for that person? At first I felt mad and shocked that someone would ever have the desire to eliminate eyesight...I think, though when making that comparison (eliminating her eyesight was the only way "out") it makes you feel sadness for how deeply she must be hurting right. Her suicEYED is almost like a cry for help - not feeling love, acceptance, or like she was special before. Maybe this is a way for her to stand out...or something...and feel noticed.

      +Rachel Wright too right, you are right in everything you say. As my self I know what it's like to feel suicidal and want to harm your self, the doctor that helped put bleach in her eyes should have sent her to someone that could help her, people are born blind, they may never have the chance see the colour of their child's eyes, or something as special as that.. Realistically speaking she should still be having help for her future.

    I think it's right that you can compare it with feeling like a man in a woman's body if you listen to what she said in Dr. Phil's show too, she only felt happy when she wasn't seeing. We are not to judge what feels normal for her or what the f she wants to do with her body. And the queen of England wtf xD

    • @thetravelcrunch
      @thetravelcrunch 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      She is feeling a pain, and determines that having no sight is the only way to be happy. You have to think, mutilating oneself to be happy...is that healthy? Is this a sickness that should be treated so that she can fully experience real happiness instead of using a substitute? Think of people who cut their wrists. Some claim they do this to feel a release from that self-harm, like the adrenaline from the wound overwhelms a deeper pain they are feeling inside. They are in need of therapy, because something very deep (loneliness, neglect, self-hate, low self-esteem, whatever it may be) is causing them to feel this so much pain that they resort to self-harm. We would not call that behavior normal or acceptable, because it is unhealthy. just like we should not call this woman's behavior normal or ok. They need therapy to get to the source of what is troubling them, to truly heal. It is sad she did not recognize this would have been the best option before making her decision.
