    This is so interesting to watch! The Legacy playthrough has been my favorite series on this channel so far. This video makes me want to rewatch it!!

    Originally I strongly object to the more destructive aspects of this Legacy games design, but after watching this group play through each haunt I came around completely. I also solidified my opinion that Becca is a competent, capable, and entertaining host. She has managed the helm (ahem) of Game the Game beautifully and I look forward to her episodes.

    I stand by my earlier stance. You four, please play more Legacy games. There's pandemic legacy, seafall, gloomhaven, shadowrunner: crossfire, ultimate werewolf legacy, and so much more. Legacy games are expensive and fun, and not all of us can buy them or play them. You had fun here, you'll have fun with the others. I'm playing pandemic s1 and seafall.

    I actually really appreciate this video! I love hearing little easter eggs and development hijinks that happen when making board games.
    I loved this series! I'd love to see them play other Legacy games perhaps??

    If you'd like to see another great group of creators playthrough Betrayal Legacy, might I suggest checking out Loading Ready Run's playthrough, on their Twitch channel or archive here on TH-cam. A great group of Canadian gamer/geek/comedians and the group behind the annual Desert Bus for Hope charity marathon.
    For those who read this in time: Loading Ready Run will be holding a Tabletop Day stream, Saturday July 27 starting at 12 Pacific time. Featured games to include Betrayal Legacy, Fireball Island, Cosmic Encounter, AtmosFear, Hero Quest, and Cards Against Humanity.

    I got a haunt about Jonah's game and in order to succeed an action, you had to through a die in the air and catch it with the back of the same hand. If you failed, you would take damage and if you caught it, you got great trait things. I thought that was so cool and fun to do!!

    • @crazedchangeling
      @crazedchangeling 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My group got that. I wanted to die. Repeatedly. In real life. I think I was the first one to die, I forced someone to shoot me with my own family's crossbow, making the one special thing that happens with it.

    I'm stupefied by how insightful both the designer and you all (especially Xander) are!!! I watch GTG to learn about new design and to see how it impacts players with skill and experience. This interview is beyond valuable, for that goal. THANK YOU very much for 'breaking the wall' to dive a little deeper.

    Excellent end to a great journey. Hope Game the Games does more legacy games like this video. Designer at the end was a great wrap-up.
    Doesn't spoil the game because after 26 hours of watch i don't remember the finer details.

    1:13:40. I never physically destroy the components, but I do take them out of the game (when directed) so the game can still be played as intended. What I do is place the components to be destroyed into a bag labeled "destroyed."

      Also if you laminate the cards you can always remove the X whenever you restart the legacy mode, tho you would need a list of what the original deck was composed of since i don't think a list was given, the starting deck was remade.
      The only issue would be the stickers on the tiles

    I really enjoyed this talk & the entire playthrough. The first time I heard that "soft eyes" thing, I just assumed it was metaphorical, like they were somehow kind or welcoming (obviously still in a creepy way), but the truth is far more interesting.

    36:54 It would be funny if Jay Africa selected Rhinehart, then at the conclusion when the original characters arrived at the House by car, and Father Rhinehart was among them. No, instead Ox referenced a professor, which would be Longfellow.

    35:54. In one of the haunts in the original game, the story was that I (the Traitor) had a big bomb & bomb collars strapped to people's necks. The heroes had to disarm the bomb collars, unlock the front door, and escape before the big bomb went off. As the traitor, all I had to do was wait a certain number of turns and I would win. There was no way to speed up the clock, I couldn't leave the room to attack the heroes... nothing... All I could do was wait. I hated it.

  • @Noiselandco
    @Noiselandco 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Gah this is so good! This really helps wrap up the story, especially with Rob's extra details.
    A comment on the frequency of Jay as the traitor - it seemed like Jay was most often kind of owning an entire floor of the house, or the exterior. If one person is the only one revealing an entire area it just seemed like they'd be more likely to encounter types of cards, vs. spreading that area's cards across the entire party.
    Anyone else notice something like that?

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you're probably right about the frequency of omen cards per area, but I think that's why you have to make haunt rolls. Adding that random element can in some way compensate for one person landing on more omens than the others, especially when the dice can roll a zero so there's theoretically no limit on how far back the haunt can be pushed (but the tiles being in a particular order per chapter definitely has something in there to ensure you never run out of omens without a haunt beginning).

    Don't play this game with everything. It tends to be a clustermess so take out the cards the game tells you to take out.

    Wow, that’s disappointing. She admitted they almost had to cheat that last roll... that kinda makes me wonder at other times in all these board game shows how much exciting moments are real or not. Obviously they consider it sometimes... other than that, great talk!! I wanna see more legacy games played through!

  • @PeteZahjutt
    @PeteZahjutt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    After watching the whole playthrough I don't find this a good Legacy game.
    Don't take me wrong, it looks really fun, but not legacy-ish.
    I mean, only the families and heirlooms carry on the game, maybe the helm counts idk (also I'm not counting ghosts cuz it is such a minor change), but the story feels like 13 separate Betrayal at the house on the Hill normal games.
    Comparing this to Pandemic or Risk legacy, it lacks continuity between games.
    At the end of the game it doesn't give you a satisfying sense of completion, it only feels like you completed a long session of several normal BatHotH games.

      I haven't experienced either of the others but I can see your point. I'm not sure if that makes it a bad game or if there was any better way to do it

    • @stropes.
      @stropes. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not "only families and heirlooms" which carry over from game to game - your Omen cards have different names depending on the haunt you experience (except with maybe one exception), you name the recurring groups of inhabitants (most of which can be killed during the game so they, theoretically, don't come back later), the house tiles change over time and are destroyed/altered based on what happens in the game (with stickers for fog, secret passages, etc and some are even entirely replaced with room-sized stickers that completely cover the old room tiles) besides that the event and item cards which are added to the decks and then show up in later games are directly related to what happened in the haunts you experienced and whether or not the heroes or traitor won.
      Depending on how the final chapter plays out you might not ever get the spear, the elevator might not ever be enchanted and the cards you add to the event deck for free play will all be entirely different (and this is true for each and every single haunt you complete). I think ideally there could have been even more of these unique cards added to the decks and more ways to interact/affect the room tiles but saying it's "only families and heirlooms" is just incorrect...

  •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You know? It would be great to see a Legacy game set during Viking time next. ;3 To tell the full story of Fenrir the Necromancer, either before he was sealed inside hell (or Helheim OR Niflheim, I think Niflheim is the right realm, seeing as Helheim is only for dishonourable deaths, while Niflheim was for people that were evil I believe) or when he was still just a corrupted evil Necromancer. ^^
    Also: If I would have this game or any Legacy game. I would put the cards that you should destroy somewhere else so they would be gone but not destroyed so I would be able to play it again. Plus: I would use a pen or pencil that would be erasable so the cards could still use them. ^^ (Though the stickers would probably be a problem. ^^;;

    • @crazedchangeling
      @crazedchangeling 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Legacy games are made to be played once. If you want to play them again, buy them again. Some do have replay packs, but this one ain't it, chief
