Difference is Diversity: Interview Brandon Wolf [Sally Hogshead]

When you were growing up, did you ever get the message that in order to succeed, you needed to be BETTER? Here’s the reality: It’s good to be better, but it’s better to be different. Different is better than better.
To bring you a new perspective on diversity, I sat down with LGBTQ civil rights advocate, Brandon Wolf.
Brandon is a survivor of the staggering trauma of the 2016 Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting. Since then, Brandon has become a nationally-recognized leader for LGBTQ youth (a cause near and dear to my heart).
You may have seen him on national television, or lauded in Huffington Post.
But instead of ME describing the significance of his message, I’m going to let the President of the United States, Joe Biden, do that. In a personal letter to Brandon, Joe Biden writes...
“I am grateful for your support on the immensely important issue, and humbled by your continued dedication… I cannot imagine your pain, but I am inspired by your resilience and bravery. Your work with LGBTQ student groups and advocacy for gun violence prevention are powerful. I am so grateful that you have been able to turn your pain into purpose.”
Fun Fact: In this interview, I found out that Brandon was on the debate team in high school. He and I debated in a battle royale about the blessing and curse of using Post-It notes.
