Would there be any issue doing this with top rail instead of bottom. Just if I was to cut bottom I’d be cutting into bottom rail but have enough clearance at top. I know it would be visible at top.
When doing my doors I only had a silly 16mm to play with so I just thought sod it I cut the 25 mm I needed from bottom and used veneer banding the kind you get on kitchen work tops and glued to bottom to protect it looked great
@ I did the top looked okay when I finished it. Door was 1980 think I needed it to be 1800 but the bottom rail was like 200 top was only 125 so worked out well.

Just cut it off the bottom, it will void any warranty unfortunately but as long as you seal the bottom it won't be an issue. We have to do it all the time.
What a fantastic bit of work. How would you approach a door for a cupboard under the stairs as the top rail wouldn’t be long enough? Use an offcut from the excess side rail and accept that the head rail would be smaller? (Guess what I need to do😂😂😂)

I’ve been told it’s not possible to put a cat flap in the Howden’s Daytona oak glazed door; and that “cat flap can not be put in this glass or any other glass door once it has been toughened. You would have to get a door made and glass made and hole cut in it a processing stage.” Does this sound right? Would appreciate your advices, thanks.
Do you have any tips on how to cut veneer doors without chipping the veneer? I unfortunately don't have a plunge saw, only a circular saw which I was thinking of running along a straight edge clamped to the door. Thanks for the tutorial by the way!
Yes bud use a brand new blade in your saw and put masking tape on the top side of the cut that should stop it splintering. If you're cutting in to the chipboard core as well as the veneer then the blades won't last long if they're cheap. I use Freud blades and they stay sharp for ages.
How would you cut down an oak vaneer door, when you need to trim more than the recommended amount but less than the height of the bottom panel? For example about 8cm. I see your cuts are made to take into account the thickness of the blade. Which i don’t think you can do if shortening the door by less than the height of the bottom panel. Could i cut 4cm off the top and bottom and leave the core exposed?
Hi George I would probably take 20mm off the top and 60mm off the bottom so the proportions still look ok, but explain to the client that it may look a little off. Or you could buy a donor door and put in a new bottom rail so you don't have to worry about the thickness of the cut. Or you could make a new bottom rail either out of solid oak or oak veneer mdf. Nicely done. Makita have a shoe that carries a jigsaw on theirs and Festools track, no more cleaning out the corners.

Yes you could, but you would need to add some timber to reinforce the joint.

Yes you can't cut toughened glass it will explode into a thousand pieces.
Might be able to fit a small one to the side of the glass tho.
Ah ok, thanks, so putting one below the glass should be ok then?
If it fits and not too close to the bottom of the door. Will void any warranty tho.

I switched to saxton professional 80t. They are pretty cheap on Amazon and leave a fantastic cut in 40mm oak worktops.
