The creator of the show, Beau demayo, has said that the depiction of the genoshan genocide was in large part inspired by the 2016 Orlando pulse nightclub shooting. He said that the feeling of a safe space for queer people to be themselves being invaded and massacred heavily influenced his approach in writing this episode and the reactions to it in later episodes. the song playing at magneto rouge dancing scene is from 92, so yep pretty accurate for the time the series is on and the lyrics... TOTALLY fitting with the situation, great work out there by the creators and sound team

Rogue can fly because she permanently absorbed all of Ms. Marvel(Carol Danvers)'s powers. Rogue's "evil mother" is Mystique. Mystique is Rogue's adoptive mother. Nightcrawler is Mystique's son. Nightcrawler is Rogue's adoptive brother.
12:52 No, unfortunately. In the comics also in the original animated series, the reason she can fly because when she was a villain, she absorbed Captain Marvel's powers (Carol). Usually when Rogue touches someone, she temporarily has their powers. However, she held on to Carol for so long, the powers permanently remained in her and Carol was in a deep coma. Rogue felt guilty and left her life if crime. She was also confused since Carol's memories were inside her mind. That's when she ran into Professor X and join the X-Men! I really hope we see Rogue do this to Captain Marvel in the MCU! 💪
gambit in the comics becomes one of the 4 horseman of apocalypse so well see and leech could have sucked out magnetos power to make it look like he died
Okay sorry I am late to the party, But good reaction to the show. In the comics Rogue has Super strength, Flight, near invulnerability, along with her original power of Absorbing the powers and life force of anyone she touches. Along with powers, Rogue can also absorb some of their memory. While she was part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, she followed her evil mother (Mystique) and she absorbed Carol Danver's powers and memory. Thus she gained the Super Strength, Invulnerability, and Flight. Carol Danver's (Captain Marvel) went into a coma, myself and most comic book fans would love to see this version of Rogue in the MCU, one thing it introduced Rogue as a grey character, and two, Captain Marvel is very annoying, or maybe just Brie Larson herself. I hope this answers your question, why the Fox Xmen Rogue never flies, and she only has one basic power- absorption.
Magneto's death is a heavy blow. He's a complex figure, but undeniably significant. You might feel a mix of grief and confusion - losing such a powerful presence in the X-Men world hurts. But the episode isn't done. Gambit's heroic sacrifice adds another layer of devastation. It's a brutal one-two punch that leaves you emotionally spent. Episode 5 is a masterclass in emotional manipulation. As an X-Fan, you experience the thrill of victory, the sting of defeat, the weight of loss, and the glimmer of hope - all within a single episode. It's a wild ride that leaves you emotionally drained, but deeply invested in the story's future. And this only the halfway of the season.. I'm terrifed on the end of season cliff hangers now.. 🃏♥♦♠♣
Love your reaction! My thought is Gambit is the key! The watcher shoes up after Rouge talks to him sitting this course up. Mastermold detects an omega level mutant which Magneto is buy so is Gambit. Also it would do him justice when in the original series they thought he was the one that would betray the Xmen.
Yeah it was a flashback to Magneto's childhood. He is a holocaust survivor so he's had it rough putting it lightly. Yeah the end music is just a sad version of the usual theme song. It was a fantastic episode. As Nando v Movies has said "When the X-Men are working well it's three things. Back flips, civil rights, and soap opera"
LOVED IT!..INTENSE!! another EPIC Episode! and we're only halfway there! ....love your reactions! Love those Storm earrings...that's totally you! see on the next episode.
Genosha was an island nation that claimed to be a mutant paradise but in reality they enslaved them. It was supposed to be analogous to when the Nazi would lie to the Jews that the places they where sending them was good but in reality concentration camps. The X-men fought and freed the mutants slaves and the government was overthrown. This episode shows how Genosha changed to actual mutant paradise well before its destruction.
I know this episode is a popular reaction because of the ending but honestly the writers did a fantastic job with everything leading up too. All of the melodrama regarding Scott's interview, the Scott-Madeline-Jean triangle, and the Remy-Rogue-Magento triangle was great and had depth. All of the dialogue was memorable on this one. Plus the animators did a great job with body language like Rogue's subtle facial expression during the dance with Magneto.
Rogue didn't fly in the live action version because her only mutant power is to absorb the powers/memories of others. Usually this is temporary and depending on how long she is in contact is how long the powers last. In the comic book, she started as part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and got her flight, super strength/speed and invulnerability from absorbing the powers of Ms. Marvel/Carol Danvers. She almost killed Carol because of how long she remained in contact with her and actually stole her powers and memories because she remained in contact so long. She became an X-Man because she was switching between her personality and Carol's constantly, so she went to Xavier and the X-Men for help. This really is never shown in the X-Men cartoon series because it was set in the 90's and Rogue joined the X-men in Issue 171 from 1983.
First time catching your channel. Surprised you didn't break down more. Been watching a bunch of reactions. People are bawling their eyes out! Good job taking the shock. Unless it's all editing lol.
The one you thought has powers like jubilee is called dazzler she has the ability to turn sounds into energy...if you can find the animated movie Pryde of the X-Men " you'll see a little more of her.
After his "Acts of Vengeance" failed, Loki created the Tri-Sentinel by magically merging three prototype Sentinels built by Shaw Industries to become the cornerstone for Project Nimrod, a secret government plan to destroy mutants. Loki reprogrammed the robot to attack a nuclear power plant nearby in order to kill thousands of people; however, Spider-Man used his newfound powers of Captain Universe to destroy it.
Watch episode 22, " A Rogue's tale" it gives you all the details about her powers. Including her flight and strength after she takes out Capt. Marvel. If Gambit was alive, she could feel him.
Not Captain Marvel, but Ms. Marvel. Carol Danvers didn't take on that name until Marvel Studios started plans to make a movie about her, and obviously her costume back then wasn't really appropriate for a powerful female lead, so the guys on the comics book side had no choice but to give her a new costume and name.
I know this tragic story where 16 million mutants died and if it's not the Professor's sister behind this because both Gray and Prier had what looked like a psychic attack so Cassandra could be behind this to knock out telepaths before geneside started happened, but then I started thinking that we've just been introduced to one of those ancient evil gods of mischief that goes by the name of The Adversary, and that character loves chaos and despair and what's more despair than what happened in this episode...
they also kind of depowered or misutulized like every single mutant in the the live action. I mean there were like 3 stand outs, 4 if you include Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movies; the rest were between bad and good,.
“She’s touching him” she can’t feel his life energy. For mutants she takes their power for humans she takes their life energy and she can’t control it. Her touching him saying I can’t feel you is because he has no more life energy so he is gone. That’s why she starts to cry
I suggest you watch the original animated series so that you’ll know more of what’s going on. The live action movies served little to no justice to the characters, their abilities, and their relationships with each other
In the comics Rogue could fly and had superpowers because she absorbed Carol Danvers Captain Marvel but in the Fox movies universe Fox didn't have the rights to Captain Marvel and therefore Rogue was stuck with her absorbing powers only.
@jetlorider2818 Moira is just a regular human who happens to not to be bigoted towards mutants and at one time was Xavier's girlfriend. So I have no clue as to WTF you are even talking about.
Just a primer on Rogue's powers: she basically absorbs powers and memories whenever she touches a person. The only reason she can also fly and is super strong and tough is because she held on to Captain Marvel (yes, her!) for too long and absorbed her powers permanently (back when she was still working with Mystique as a villainess). This did not happen in any of the live action movies. Also, captain Marvel did go into a coma, but she did eventually get better. Her history is wild in the comics by the way.
captain spider-man aka cosmic spider-man was needed for this mutant massacre, since he defeated it in "the amazing spider-man 329" in 1990. th-cam.com/video/mrhS3Id1O3w/w-d-xo.html this tri-sentinel was enhanced by the inspiration of the final titan, on the 'attack on titan" series finale. also, it was too enhanced for it to be constructed by humans... during this time period. in a.s.m. 329, the alien, loki, who is thor's adopted brother, had created it during the "acts of vengeance" campaign, against spider-man. so for this cartoon, either it was from an alt. future or someone like apocalypse created it, to start a final war btwn mutants & humans. this would explain cable & the watcher's veiled appearance in this episode.
Looks like we're getting the radicalized Scott Summers, and remember Rogue in this series has the powers of Ms Marvel, that she kept from back when she was with her "evil mother", so Rogue is pretty tough. Don't know if she would have survived that Tri Sentinel blast, but she's pretty durable. I dunno, Gambit looked pretty dead, Magneto too. Though Shaw and Emma were nowhere to be seen during that attack. Watching this reaction made me notice something with Valerie Cooper, with her reaction to when she heard Rogue would be joining Magneto on Genosha, not going to spoil too much but I don't think she's who she appears to be. That's some other person!!!!
Only problem is: *SPOILERS* the sentinels totally ignored her as though she was not a mutant. In fact, when they were shooting mutants near her they used a less powerful blast than what they were doing. As though they were preventing her from being hurt. BUT you could be right.
@eingoluq Yeah, I noticed that too, and that could be due to her just being human, and they scanned her as such, ignoring her or using non-lethal on her. But that weird emotional reaction to the news about Rogue, plus mentioning her "evil mother" in the same episode? Could a shapeshifter fool the Sentinel X-gene detection? Does it change at the genetic level enough for them to register as human? I dunno, decades of X-Men twists and turns, reveals, etc, in the comics might be having me reading too much into this, Lol. I'll be keeping an eye on Valerie from here on out, though
You are correct that Rogue didn't have super strength and toughness or the ability to fly in the live-action films, but that's because she was still a teenager who had just discovered her powers. Remember that when Rogue touches someone, she begins to absorb their power and then she can use it. If the touches them too long, she absorbs the powers permanently. In the comics, she completely absorbs Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) powers giving her super strength and durability as well as the ability to fly. We just never got to see that version of her live yet. Here's hoping for the MCU version to show an adult version of Rogue with those powers (or hell, she could steal the real Captain Marvel's powers in the MCU since we have a current Carol Danvers).
marvel girl was jean's original mutant name. i believe she used that until she became the phoenix and after she came back she just went by her name. the reason she would have asked about his relationship with jean is to show that mutants are people too. they fall in love and form families just like normal humans. people can connect with that more than they connect to the superhero who can fire concussive blasts from him eyes.
2:47 I agree with this. But I think he knows that she is scared of forming a committed relation with him so he plays it off nonchalantly to not pressure her
Marvel Girl is Jean’s codename, like Cyclops is Scott’s. She didn’t go by Marvel Girl in the original series, they’re retconning it here by saying she doesn’t usually use it ig.

@@boricualink I think it is fair to say that the mcu has a very big shoe to fill now hahaha
11:52 This entire sequence was in the vision Madeline Pryor had in the first episode! Incredible storytelling! 🙏🏽💪
Well it wasn't in the vision but it was foreshadowed
"The name's Gambit mon ami, remember it."
“I can’t feel you” as she touches the skin on his dead body. “Somethings are deeper than skin”.
It would be a great way to retire Carol Danvers if Brie Larson wants to step away from the MCU.
15:21 My man Gambit! 😔🙏🏽
Awesome reaction of my favorite episode of X-Men '97!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it
This show has brought me back
gambit in the comics becomes one of the 4 horseman of apocalypse so well see and leech could have sucked out magnetos power to make it look like he died
Gambit died not knowing she picked him, and she truly loved him. Cable better fix this shit.😢
No, Rogue didn’t fly in the live action movies because she hadn’t drained that power from Captain Marvel, who didn’t exist in that universe.
Hes a Queens Gambit. Because he sacrificed himself for the Queen. Rogue 😢😢😢
they did Rogue dirty in the movies
Magneto = Erik Magnus Lehnsherr
At least that used to be his real name for decades. Now, it’s Max Eisenhart
9:51 Yikes! Emma Frost was savage! 😭😂
That's what Jean was called when the comic books got popular in the late 70's... Marvel girl
All the issues they address are very adult, Same Issues they face in the comics my dear!
Gambit see your bet and raise it cause the cards always be in my favor
"I don't know anything about Genosha" that's a flag.
LOVED IT!..INTENSE!! another EPIC Episode! and we're only halfway there! ....love your reactions! Love those Storm earrings...that's totally you! see on the next episode.
The shenanigans are about to begin!!!! 🙏🏽💪
The Ending Reminds me of the Black wall Street Massacre 😨
Your reaction is funny, the last part is a constant state of denial hahaha
This episode was flames!
*"The name's Gambit. Remember it."
Interesting you picked up on the red hair. Red hair is in itself a mutation, which is probably why the artists chose it so frequently!
Cable says " He is coming" So i don't think its Cassandra, im guessing Onslaught.
they also kind of depowered or misutulized like every single mutant in the the live action.
E is for extinction is the story this episode is based on. It's the mutant equivalent to 9-11.
Welcome to the real world of X-Men: suffering, pain and death :)
Lucky for you, the X-Men have a habit of not staying dead for long :)
I suggest you watch the original animated series so that you’ll know more of what’s going on. The live action movies served little to no justice to the characters, their abilities, and their relationships with each other
This. The FOX movies were "Wolverine and Friends".
"this is heavy as shit" and all i could think is they haven't even gotten started yet.
New to your channel... glad I watched this video. You make great observations and are super intuitive. Nice!!!
She went in and kissed Logan
In the comics Rogue could fly and had superpowers because she absorbed Carol Danvers Captain Marvel but in the Fox movies universe Fox didn't have the rights to Captain Marvel and therefore Rogue was stuck with her absorbing powers only.
The reason why rouge flies she has the powers of captain Marvel. She almost killed her... you need to watch previous seasons...
Even Moira McTaggert died in this episode.
if she dies...she'll just reincarnated back to her same life with the same memories....but it would be in another timeline.
@jetlorider2818
Moira is just a regular human who happens to not to be bigoted towards mutants and at one time was Xavier's girlfriend. So I have no clue as to WTF you are even talking about.
The Watcher was watching.
0:12 Yes! That was Cable! 💪
Cable or bishop will time travel and fix this
BTW, loving the Storm earrings. ❤
"Oh no"
Me: same. 🥺
You need to watch the animated series from the beginning of the original show.
Her history is wild in the comics by the way.
captain spider-man aka cosmic spider-man was needed for this mutant massacre, since he defeated it in "the amazing spider-man 329" in 1990.
th-cam.com/video/mrhS3Id1O3w/w-d-xo.html
this tri-sentinel was enhanced by the inspiration of the final titan, on the 'attack on titan" series finale.
also, it was too enhanced for it to be constructed by humans... during this time period.
in a.s.m. 329,
the alien, loki, who is thor's adopted brother, had created it during the "acts of vengeance" campaign, against spider-man.
so for this cartoon, either it was from an alt. future or someone like apocalypse created it, to start a final war btwn mutants & humans.
this would explain cable & the watcher's veiled appearance in this episode.
Only problem is:
*SPOILERS*
the sentinels totally ignored her as though she was not a mutant.
A promise was made. We will not live our days wondering if we could have saved more. Habe keine Angst.
I don't like cyclops but everything he said in that interview I 100% agree🫡🤣
Magnus is Magneto’s middle name. Most people seem to call him Magnus. Only close friends seem to call him Erik.
2:47 I agree with this. But I think he knows that she is scared of forming a committed relation with him so he plays it off nonchalantly to not pressure her
This is based of Rogue in the 80's comics where she had permanently absorbed Carol Danvers powers
Didn’t even catch the queen of hearts bit
Gambit died never knowing that Rogue picked him.
Marvel Girl is Jean’s codename, like Cyclops is Scott’s. She didn’t go by Marvel Girl in the original series, they’re retconning it here by saying she doesn’t usually use it ig.
