I am lucky to own one of their Wine Series guitars, and hands down, the most musical and expressive pickups I have ever heard. The combo of the chestnut and their pickups is where the magic is... even using OD, the character of each position of the pickup switch comes thru. An AMAZING piece of playable art!

It's a matter of taste I suppose, but the fake aging really turns me off. And I don't see anything even vaguely new or innovative. A very old design, done with some interesting raw materials for sure, nice appointments (if they weren't fake aged at least) and it sounds very nice of course. But it's still a strat copy. It's not like the world has any shortage of those, eh? Anyhow, thanks for the video, it really does sound great.

Darrell Braun Guitar hi there darrell.question about this awesome strat. Is there no truss rod on this guitar at all? I have a guitar with a roasted maple neck but still it has a truss rod.won't the neck bend if you use a 10 gauge? Or will it not warp in the long run.i mean that is why they put truss rods right.I like using 10 gauges on my strats.

    • @DarrellBraunGuitar
      @DarrellBraunGuitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi!
It is likely like vintage strats with the truss rod adjuster on the base of the neck (Neck removal is needed)

150 year old barrel. I made my strat body from a couple of headboards
from a 145 year old boarding house that closed down. It looks pretty
unique, I left the lightly rounded edges when I edge glued it so the
lines would be visible from where I joined them it gives a rustic look
similar to an old general store floor.

American Chestnut died out in the early 1900s from Chestnut Blight so that is even cooler knowing it is made from wood you can never get again (until those tree guys figure it out). Those pickups are way high and it seems like it’d be smoother with lower pickups.

Just a continuation of the whole "upcycle/reclaimed wood" trend that's permeated every other facet of woodworking over the last couple years. On top of any environmental considerations, I think it's a good way to add a little free provenance to your work and make it stand out from the veritable sea of other SLOs (strat-like objects) out there.

One thing to consider about bone nuts: I was watching a video of a guy taking his guitar to the Plek machine at Thomann (Germany), to dress the frets and carve new nut slots. The Plek technician mentioned that he preferred to work with bone nuts, because it is self-lubricating while it's being milled by the Plek machine. Plastic nuts, on the other hand, overheat and melt. So perhaps the same self-lubricating effect is what's helping your tuning stability with this strat.

Lately, in the last 10 months I have been making an effort to spend less for new gear. In November 2018 I purchased the Monoprice Stageright 15 watt tube amp for only -$127.99 (not kidding),. Then I purchased the Acoustic G35FX SS amp for-$89 (new). Then I purchased an Indonesian made and Endorsed by Fender Squire Bullet Stratocaster guitar (new) for $109! It arrived with a repaired crack in the neck-I did apply some steel wool to make it so I could not feel the repair) it plays normally. The string gauge is just a little too thin for me and that's my only complaint. I have 15 new string sets in a box just waiting their turn!
You reviewed the 15 watt tube amp and I really like it.
The Accustic G35FX is a sleeper Guitar Amp for sure, loud, tone full, with reverb, chorus and delay available on both channels as well as the normal channel having a mid-scoup button. The other channel has a gain knob as well as a volume knob (Chicken Heads Knobs too!) What a great 12" speaker/35 watt amp!
Ol' cracked neck as I affectionate call her is a Strat in every way, as in it sounds like, feels like, play's like and looks like a Fender Stratocaster. Put some heavier gauge strings on her and dim the lights, hand her to anyone and let them play her. They shall like it and get as good a tone and playability as the Italian Strat in this video. And, no, I can't feel the repaired crack as I play. The neck is even made with birds-eye maple wood! Very nice to look at.
It makes me happy that for only $326 in Total I was able to obtain two solid guitar amplifiers and a solid Stratocaster. I'm getting smarter in my old age (69).
    -Peter
Oh and I have 5 quality violins from when I was a violinist, a neck injury destroyed those aspirations though. One of those violins and it's several hundred years old was made in Italy. So yes, I like the good stuff just like we all do. Yet, I made from kits another two violins and people say they sound very good. One kit cost $79 and the second kit only $49. Yes I had to purchase many special tools and also stains/varnishes/lacquer and it took me many hours of work to finish my kits but they play very well. Ha, I even put my name inside each of them and the year and place where I made them.
    -Peter

From Leo: Thanks for the test. It is always good to see other brands than FMIC or Epiphone products. I like the idea of recycled vintage wood, especially when the product is well executed. Does your finger get irritated when neck picking by the gap in the pick guard under the neck pickup? PS: You can always check for ferrous metals with a magnet. Some things may be copper plated steel. Especially since one of the steps before chrome plating leaves a copper look. Keep up the good work.

Antonio Stradivarius used centuries old wood that was originally part of a church, so the old Italian barrel wood concept follows in that pathway. Aged wood has dried out and shrank about as much that is possible so it makes for an excellent material for a quality musical instrument.

I wonder how much of the tone is affected by the pickgaurd being that brassy tinny metal, the wiring must be impeccably tidy under the guard to keep ground issues at bay. I love how similar the grain is to swamp ash but far more porous and much cooler being that old. I'm not going to get into the tonewood debate, but surely the older, nearly petrified wood provides SOME kind of difference. Definitely art. Personally I'd have preferred a set of 60s voiced pickups and a 7-1/4 radius, but otherwise perfect guitar.

I'm suprized you never mentioned what fret material is being used. Now that stainless is taking over that would be a definite addition to consider. Thanks for your awsome rips.

Something to keep in mind is that roasted Maple it's actually brittle. It will split and crack much easier than non torrified wood.

A strat-type using the single-coil bridge pickup, slightly overdriven and compressed, bass rolled off + tons of reverb/tight delay.

That neck looks beautiful. I'm really disappointed that the company website doesn't seem to have prices on it. Sure, I know their guitars will be expensive, but I's really like to know if I could ever afford one.

Wonder if the copper pick guard makes a difference in the tone, being that the pick ups are mounted to it, I made one for a project I did and I felt it definitely contributed to the tone
