    Thanks a lot, very helpful.
    Here a tip for you, don't speak with the mic in front of you, but place it on your side, that way you won't push air directly in the mic, the sound will be the same but you'll be avoiding theses "puffs" that saturate on plosives.

    Awesome video man, it's so cool that this game still has videos like this.

    Sometimes in Bg1 especially, its nice to have a sneak/scout/backstab thief and a lockpick/disarm traps/utility thief.

      Just use a swashbuckler or bounty hunter lol. Bounty hunter destroys with traps and swash destroys with dps or rather damage per round. Backstab on a thief is not that big as people think. On fighter thieves especially kensai thief yes but on pure thieves not so much and its mostly because backstab calc only factors in actual weapon damage and prof/style points and the only style that gives + dmg is two handed aka quaterstaves. Pure thief in bg1 can do 5 damage min using +3 quaterstaff and 1 pip into two handed style and with 4x multiplier that is 20 then 19 strength bonus gets added which is 7 so its 27 (20 + 7).
      Swashbuckler with 19 strength with a plus 3 weapon and specialization gets + 2 and he is level 10 so additional + 2 that is min 15 damage and he dual wields similar weapon gets him 2 apr so its 15 + 15 which is 30 with oil of speed its 45 and later in bg2 he gets access to improve haste, haste and whirlwind so yeah... pure thief or even assassin will not out dps swash. If you want backstab use fighter thief especially kensai thief otherwise APR or APR with assassination

    The only thing you *need* from the thief is the ability to find/disarm traps. A divine caster can find them (so can monks but lol), however you still need skill to actually disarm them and that's thief exclusive.
    For picking locks, while it's annoying you can cast knock to open locks that you can't force. Obviously trap damage and backstab damage can be replaced, though damage is nice to have. But there is no replacement for a trap disarmer (and by extension, finder). Fortunately, even Imoen dualed at 5 can hit 100 find trap, or any of the other random thieves in BG1, so you can get that job pretty fast from companions. When solo, you're kind of stuck memorizing where and what the traps are if you don't have thieving skills, though the arcane sorts like fighter --> mage can still knock open chests and (with pre knowledge) tank most of the trap damage types using resistance casts/spell immunity/etc, and the fighter --> cleric can eventually get enough strength from items and/or holy might to force most of the locks.

      Since it's a combat learning PC game the combat skills become more relevant. Thief is nice but imoen is as good as it gets an early dual to mage. Get all the true value of both classes with 0 drawback.

    • @TheMelnTeam
      @TheMelnTeam ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ethosterros9430 There's some down time, plus in BG1 you can easily get plenty of arcane casting power (Baeloth, either Edwin or Dynaheir, and Xan if you really want a 3rd arcane in BG1). You can also get plenty of thieving skills too (Monty, Corwin, Safana). Thus you're really not hurting for anything once you know what you're doing.
      Similarly, Imoen staying thief loses out on arcane but can put points into traps, and traps break a lot of fights.

    Haha, when you said not that lethal I completely thought of Dulag! I just did a run last night and I accidentally had a char walk down a hallway I hadn’t cleared and was killed instantly due to a trap. After that happened I swear it was like one of my other characters walked over to see what happened and they died immediately too. I was doing a no save/ no load run so it ended my run. Sad day

    Sorry for late comment. For the first time players in BG series is thief a good choice? I don't know mechanics we'll enough to specialise in one kit or another but most people say that basic thief is bad choice. Can you help me with that?

    • @iv-kingroy-iv2225
      @iv-kingroy-iv2225 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's true and false.
      Here it is simplified: basic thieves ARE A GOOD CHOICE, JUST NOT FOR HDPS. The further you get into the game, your thief will not be main dps anymore; he will be your find traps/steal/open locks guy. Most bosses are immune to backstab damage, the rogues main source of dps. That is, if you even hit... which brings up
      point 2: what People mean is that for combat/dps/later game, a multi or dual class thief will always be better. There is no point in doing 5x or 7x (assasin) damage if you have a high taco and can't hit shit in the first place... 5X0=.... well 0....
      So what People mean is multi class fighter/rogue. Lower taco means you'll hit alot more often, plus you get more proficiency in weapons which will increase the damage you deal with weapons. Its math:
      Your backstab is always a multiple of your base damage, so having a higher damage will greatly increase your dps. Ex: 5X 8=40, but if you add only like 2 base damage, 5X10=50, so you're backstab actually got a plus 10 dps from a 2 dps increase, if that makes sense.
      Plus, as a fighter, you get more hp, a better AC for protection, and later on, when backstab becomes pratically useless because of immunites, you can then just walk around in plate mail to fight, as backstabs are useless anyway... but as a fighter you'll still be able to pull your weight, where as a single class thief basically becomes a" backstabless impossible to hit anything squishy character " mostly used to find traps...
      To sum it up, for powergaming, single class thieves are NOT the way to go. You will NEVER outdps a well built sorcerer, for example, especially not on bosses.

    • @jameshill2450
      @jameshill2450 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You get a party of 6. You are only one of those members, and there are dozens of options for the other 5, so you will be able to make a party capable of doing anything no matter what class you pick. Some are definitely way better than others, but if you just want to have a fun game then don't worry about it and play whatever you want.
      One thing is that the first companion you get, and if you follow the "basic" storyline one that you'll always have, is also a thief. So it's a bit redundant, but not necessarily bad.

      @@ZerglingWasteland and dispel illusion say hello too. Doesn't matter how much you punch, if you're not capable to dispel illusions (and thief can do it without wasting spell slots) they gonna hit you whilts you're incapable to find them, and for that, killing them before they destoy you. Regular difficulty, it's not a problem, but with Bhaal Mode, one hit of this people how makes a bonus of X5 damage can reduce completly the life of your most healthy Men in one second to 0. And sometimes, hitting before your priest/mage finish to cast the detect illusion.

    • @ZerglingWasteland
      @ZerglingWasteland 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Frendlu that's true but LoB just doubles damage whereas True Sight can be precast and you can keep refreshing it (and no one in the base game uses Spell Immunity: Divination)
      I'm also not sure if you are talking about player thieves or enemy thieves honestly. I'm not afraid of the latter killing my mage before illusions are dispelled simply because I'm not walking into an area without Stoneskin up.

    You have enough thieves for locks and traps in both BG1 and BG2, so playing as a thief as main character you do not have to go for locks and traps yourself, but you can go for a scout and backstaber, later on going for set traps and maybe even pickpocket in BG2. It might not be the best class, but the quick level up might be a selling arguement. Stalker might be an alternative for this role if you want to play a good character. Most will not dare to play with two tieves in one group, but it works, at least in BG1, surprisingly well. Things get harder in BG2.

    I finished the game as an elf archer recently, so I wanted to try dual class but I didn't liked it. So I settled on neutral good halfling slinger fighter/thief multiclass with sidearm as a short sword (hobbit style), I survived a few levels with hit and run tactics and backstabbing. It is really fun, I liked it.
