We all know how great scuba diving is but I’m sure you all get the same questions and comments whenever you mention diving to a friend or loved one. Isn’t it really expensive and what about sharks and jellyfish are the most common ones I find.
Before you take the first giant stride entry there are a few misbeliefs about scuba diving that we want to talk about and clear up. Scuba diving is all about exploration and going somewhere nobody else has been with a feeling of freedom and weightlessness that you won’t find in any other sport.

Scuba diving is unreal the first time you do it. It feels so unnatural not being restricted by air, but it feels so freeing. The ability to just float there weightlessly at 20 feet deep is just insane. The peace, the beauty, there’s nothing like it.

I was enamored with the idea of scuba diving as a child, mostly from a book that I had about the great barrier reef. I largely forgot about this until we were on vacation - a cruise to the Bahamas. On a whim, I suggested snorkeling. The even more beautiful reef and fish down just too far to reach on a breath inspired me to go back home to the dessert and get certified. That was 20 years ago and I still enjoy recreational diving.

Well, I like to explore, I always take my action camera when I dive but I believe picking up rubbish from the bottom of the sea, lake or quarry is also very important, so I tend to end up surfacing with my pockets full of plastic bags and plastic bottles to dispose.

I have been in Bonaire diving since June. Sadly I’ll have to sail out in a few weeks. The diving here is fantastic. I have been to 38 different dive sites and everyone was a joy. My favorites were the Salt Pier, 1,000 Steps, Jeff Davis, the Cliff, Oil Slick, and Klein Bonaire. Diving is so serene as you glide along trying to see all the fish and invertebrates. Do yourself a favor, get certified and come to places like Bonaire, it will change your life.

People always have lots of questions once they find out that I'm a diver but there are two that always seem to come up:
#1 (At the dive site): Are you searching for bodies? I get this question at least once a year.
#2 (On seeing my tanks): Are those things going to explode? When that question comes up I have to supress the urge to respond in a sarcastic manner and explain that the tanks are in fact quite safe (if well maintained and regularly tested).

I first liked scuba diving, when watching the undersea adventures of Cousteau. I have dove with sharks, if you count the Epcot dive quest at Disney world. I would like to dive tiger beach. As far as scaring fish; on my second training dive at windy point park, I had a small fish nibbling on my ear, while doing scuba drills 20 feet under water.

Sometimes I forget that I'm just sport diving with friends and sometimes the rule that you need 27lbs if you ... Think... You weigh 270lbs, only to find out you only 248, because you lost weight since the end of winter and the beginning of fall... Sharks are more like true neutral, Jaws makes it out that they prey on anything but they are animals just like deer, cats, turtles and surprisingly - fish! Dolphins are really the only ones you should be careful of, they have the intelligence and the capacity for evil, they sometimes kill things just for fun! Sharks don't, they just swim and keep am eye open for the prey they know they can eat.

The one question I get is "why didn't you stab the shark?" with my dive tool. Another one is "What if you run out of air?"

    • @rescuediver7187
      @rescuediver7187 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Ha ha. I love that one about the air. Try this response: “When is the last time you ran out of fuel in your automobile? Do you run out of fuel often?? You know there’s that gauge thingy called a fuel quantity indicator? It actually tells you how much fuel you have in your fuel tank. Yep! Right on the dashboard. Oh... there also a thing called a turn signal-most drivers don’t know what that is either.” Just sayin’ 🤨

For me, diving is a wonderful time to enjoy the peacefulness underwater. I started through snorkeling, but the deeper I went, the less time I had to enjoy the underwater world. As far as diving is very expensive, it is more so than soccer or baseball, but it's comparable to playing rec/beer league hockey, buying good equipment - good skates cost $650- $1,000, e.g (which wear out sooner than scuba equipment), and taking skating/hockey lessons. It might be odd that I enjoy diving in Canada in 7mm 2 piece wet suits, and 5mm thick boots, gloves, hoods, but I do.

I find the mere concept of Scuba completely TERRIFYING!! I wouldn't want to be more than 12 feet under water, because of the pressure changes and also the risk of drowning. I just don't understand how people can summon up the courage to do this..absolutely no idea whatsoever!

yes, good video! i would have put also : 1) is the tank only full of oxygen ? 2)since you use the tank, this sport is dangerous apart from the depth you go diving. :)

I kind of feel that SCUBA Diving is an expensive, extreme sport made for the elite that exposes to sharks and jellyfish. You need to wear too much gear and pretty much only fish lovers would waste their time doing it. Also I start my Certification classes on July 8th.

I've snorkel but never dived before. mmm. It looks really cool going to a deeper level in the ocean. I think if I did dive I'd take an extra little yellow tank that's bigger than a water bottle just incase my bigger tank went out tho. MMM

I’m a certified ice diver. Bring a dry suit and some of those heater pads (the $1.00 packs) from a gas station.
That said, you can also insulate your suit with argon if you want another gas to manage.
Add: just note if the heater packs get wet, they become useless. Found that out when I had a glove leak in a rainstorm on my motorcycle. It turns into a little lump of cold clay. X-/

Although the video showed ice, he said "colder water" so he wasn't talking only about arctic diving. I dive in cold water (45 - 50 degrees Fahrenheit / 7 - 10 Celsius) with a two-piece 7mm wetsuit, but most divers in my area use drysuits.

My first step I took when I was 9. I don’t know how old you are. But I did a program good for all ages. The first one I did was diving with sharks at my zoo. After that I realized I really did want to dive in the ocean. So we went to the nearest dive certification and they let me try diving again in a pool. Now I really wanted to dive whenever I could from that. So a couple months later I got my underage certification. I dove so much. With other people and instructors. This December I will be old enough (13) to get my adult certification😆 We chose the place we originally went to. And it was even on sale for me to sign up. I can’t wait to dive alone now!! Goodluck! Take baby steps because it is a very expensive activity! But I think you should try! Just try breathing underwater with a regulator and see if your certification company will allow you to see if you want to start diving..Goodluck!!❤️

Taye Trotman you can’t get certified before 18, you only need to be 12, 10 in some places. I’ve been certified since I was 10

Jamie Bai Yeah but once I’ 18 I plan to go to Plymouth University and there it should be cheaper, besides my family aren’t interested, and there’s no point getting certified until I’ve left home and can go on some dive trips.
