Entrechats: ballet tutorial (beginner to advanced)

- Entrechats are the beatings (battus) of the legs during small jumps.
As far as I know, 'royale' is 'entrechat trois' in the French school and vice versa.
Once you understand the beats, continue to search the internet for better-executed demonstrations. As a teacher, the technique may be very clear theoretically but the body is no longer willing.

The slow motion is a game changer, so few tutorials have that and it’s nearly impossible to perceive the difference just watching regular time. The different colors for L and R foot was also appreciated. This is SO helpful, thank you!

there has to be a difference between entrechat trois devant and derriere, in this video is entrechat trois derriere, same as entrechat cinq in the video is entrechat cinq devant

I struggle with this sequence. I’m a adult beginner . I can’t jump I mean it’s hard to get up . To change from first to second then back to first then second .. i also have a bit of arthritis in my knee . So it’s hard for me . I was struggling so much in class . Because of this . I didn’t go back .
I noticed your hanging on to the Barr while jumping . Do you recommend I do that in the beginning to get a feel for each sequence? Just like sautés ? Thank you very much 🌸
Hi Jessica, I just saw your comment. Using the barre as a support can help you to manage the movements in slow motion. It will also protect your knees at landing from the high impact.
You can also practise laying on your back and move the legs in the air. I hope this helps.

it's hard to do jumping and then beating back and front foot before landing without holding a bar? it need to jump high and land slowly, but how? a very light person? I can't beat the foot because l land fast after jumping😥
I love it that you feel because you are light you don't have enough time to beat your legs. :) I am rubbish at physics but I think a heavy object falls to the ground quicker than a light one. Anyway, it is MEANT to be difficult. You need to get strong feet and legs and learn how to use your plié so that you can jump higher, which will then allow you more time to beat your legs. Until then, use the barre to help you practise your beats/ battus.
cc bb try bending deeper into your plié before jumping, and push off from the ground harder to get more airtime!
