This was the debut of the SNL "Christmas Past" special, which has naturally been updated over the last 33 years.

I don't know what it is about this collection of commercials, there's nothing particularly stand-out about them, but MAN did it make me homesick for how things were then for my family.
I would've been 7 that Christmas. My dad was in the Air Force, he would later be deployed overseas during the Gulf War.
McClellan Air Force base, where my dad was stationed for 17 out of his 20 years in the service, was decommissioned officially in 2001. My dad retired from the Air Force in 92 or 93.
The lifestyle of being military brats was so ingrained in my siblings and me. Only one of us made it into the Air Force, an ankle injury kept one of my siblings out and my sister and I developed type 1 diabetes during puberty and thusly weren't eligible to enlist.
I miss going commissary shopping with our parents or going to the base exchange before K-Mart or Wal-Mart. The base exchange closed last November.
My mom recently came across scrapbooks she made for me for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. I was surprised I remembered so many of the kids from those grades by name. They brought back a ton of elementary school memories.
I miss walking through base housing to Arthur S. Dudley Elementary. I miss going to the little shoppette on the base housing where we lived to gas up the car or buy comic books and trading cards and snacks, going to the pools on the base or in base housing, riding our bikes to friends' houses, playing little league baseball on the base housing baseball fields.
I had always assumed I would live a life similar to how my siblings and I grew up. That did not happen for three out of four of us.
I wish I could take some kind of vacation into the past. Pet our family dog Shadow again and tell her she's a very good girl. Play with my siblings again in base housing in the front yard or in the field out back while our dad barbecued food for us. Go to church at the base chapel and hear Father Ravello give a Sunday sermon.
All the things I took for granted back then, not realizing as a child how wonderful and fleeting it was because it felt like things went on forever.
I miss my Nana Floyce Boyd and our summer trips to the family cabin in Lake Tahoe. I miss the sound of my Nana's laugh as she enjoyed watching her granddaughter's children play in the cabin her husband and son built with their friends.
Now our parents are Nana's age then and my siblings and I are out aunts' and uncles' ages then. I understand now why when my nana or grandmother or great aunt Sarah would talk about the days when they were our ages now, the were so wistful.

AT&T Cordless 5000 series phones- Not only are the ducklings cute in this commercial, but I also like how they imply that ducks know how to use phones and talk to each other on them.
Burger King Gift Certificates- Impressive animation of the ribbon on the gift in this commercial.
Bisquick Pancakes- My Mom used to make pancakes from this mix for Sunday Brunch back in the day. Nowadays when tasting them in comparison to other mixes like Pearl Mining Company (formerly Aunt Jemima brand) I think other mixes make better, more flavorful pancakes.

I like how they promote the Golden Girls as a silly idiotic sitcom special then you watch it and it's commentary on how screwed up American hospitals are!

Jean Smart also portrayed Alieen Wuornos in the TV movie Overkill: The Aileen Wuornos Story.

6:51 - Nice to see the Energizer NBC sweepstakes commercial in this compilation.
(I have seen which NBC show the Energizer Bunny appeared in in another compilation; it was Cheers. The Energizer Bunny knocked down a card house as the cast of Cheers were about to have their photo taken near it.)

80sCommercial Vault says..."And it still blows my mind that Fester's Quest came out BEFORE the 1991 'Addams Family' movie".
The story goes that the creator of Fester's Quest had a dream one night that he was playing an Addams Family game for the NES called Uncle Fester's Playhouse. Apparently, the dream stuck with him, and he decided to make the game a reality. He tracked down the widow of Charles Addams, who was living in Paris at the time, and while they were negotiating the deal, she mentioned a big Addams Family movie was in development in Hollywood, but he didn't really believe her.
He then had to convince the company to make the game. Sunsoft was a Japanese developer, and they had no idea who The Addams Family were. He showed them old videos of the show, and talked to them through an interpreter. They initially had no idea why someone would want to make a game off the show, but he eventually talked them into it, and the game was a production between the Japanese studio (who handled the programming) and the American subdivision who handled the development.

Up until a few years ago I had always assumed it was just a sequel to the movie tie-in game developed by Ocean that came out between the original film and "Values".
The game definitely feels like something cooked up in a dream. A BAD dream.

@@80sCommercialVault As an unashamed fan of Fester's Quest, I must say the game is nowhere near as hard as most make it out to be. It was the first game I beat without dying as a retro gamer, and I can beat it routinely. It's actually a very straight forward game, you just have to be wise in using your items. It really is a much better game than most people say, and not the unconquerable beast that most make it. Now Bayou Billy, on the other hand...

I guess most of my experience with it is from watching the AVGN episode on it and the random times I’ve tried it on my Raspberry Pi full of old NES games. Not really my cup of tea but definitely not the worst game I’ve played either. Did not mean to offend any Fester’s Quest fanatics. ;)

    10:12 Raiders 28 Vikings 24
This was a year after the Vikings traded a bunch of draft picks to the Dallas Cowboys that ended up being the biggest trade in NFL history and basically made up the Cowboys dynasty.
Also Bo Jackson was such a star at this time being the best player to be a 2 sport athlete, too bad his injuries would prevent him from full potential.

Macy’s doesn’t actually own Toys R Us, it’s a partnership/licensing agreement with the investment firm who does own it.
