Kawasaki should make some lower price retro bikes styled like this but with a modern water-cooled 4 cylinder engine & modern brakes, suspension and make them more comfortable. Not everybody needs clip-ons and high foot pegs. I just love to see this bike style brought back. Like the z900.
Gorgeous example! I owned one and even had the same Kerker (Kerker Kicks ASS!!) exhaust after the original black chrome dual exhausts rotted out. Loved that bike, so smooth, torque-y, and yet revvy at the same time. Very classic hot-rodded, air cooled, 2Valve Kawasaki. Sweet ride.
I know it's a long shot, but I wonder if that's my old bike. I bought mine slightly used in 1985-ish, then sold it 2 yrs later....out of Plymouth, WI. That was a great bike.
I had a silver GPZ 550 ZX in Australia. It was the same bike you have but mine had full fairing. i loved it as my daily transport to Sydney Airport from Parramatta in 1987-88 It had a death wobble at 180KPH, but if you powered on 215k down hill was my fastest
My 85 750 was the identical colours.Firecracker Red. One of the best looking series of bikes ever made. And 8-valve, 4 cyl, air-cooled Kawasakis sound best with a Kerker exhaust. You might want to route the clutch cable properly. It's not supposed to be out blowing around in the wind.
Can you tell me how much this sold for? I wish I would have known about it prior I would have bought it. I am still looking for a 1984 GPZ550 in this condition.
+andyzdoesit - The foot controls on this particular bike are stock, and specific to the GPZ model for this year. You could either swap out to the 84 GPZ controls, or adapt an aftermarket rear-set kit. Excellent machines!

I had a zrx 1100 and miss it so,
but a 550z would be sweeeet.
I put 1400 miles on mine the first week I had it. That included a 2-up ride from Phoenix to SoCal, at speed.

Replaces clutch cable without removing the fuel tank.
Why do thy sound like a cement mixer ? Even my 85 does ..lol ..
