Excellent Video clip! Sorry for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you considered - Chireetler Dread Free Rule (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is an awesome exclusive product for learning self effective defence moves minus the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate at last got cool results with it.

I am a senior with an amputation (the toes of my right foot) and the victim of a mild stroke. I spent 50 years studying, practicing and teaching karate (my rank is Hachidan, 8th level black belt) and I thank you for your video, self defense is far more than simply fighting. I used to tell my students that the 5 minutes before a physical attack are at least as important as the 30 seconds of combat. Situational awareness is a key point. I often explained that the high kicks seen in the movies are there because it's a movie. Real self defense techniques are not so exciting to watch, but work much better in the street. Again, thanks for your video sir.

I specialize in teaching the cane and pocket stick to seniors and folks with disabilities and find this video instructions great and straight forward with no nonsense. It's really refreshing to find someone to speak the truth about seniors and self defense. There are many seniors or folks with disabilities that just cannot perform such tasks and the best thing to say and do is just be truthful and kind to those whom cannot perform defense tactics it's not an easy subject to teach or discuss sometimes. But it remains of the up most importance for for us seniors and those with disabilities to be safe from harm period.

The most honest talk on senior self defense that I have ever heard. I have studied seven different martial arts.

it reminds me of what i heard dean lister say about how more people are hurt from falling than anything else in a fight and i think that rings true

I agree situational awareness and physical fitness is super important if you're not fit and healthy you can't defend yourself in the first place

The best self defense video I have seen here on youtube. Most of the stuff shown will not work.
If I were to follow youtube self defense I would see what more this guy has to say.
I am 71. Studied seven self defense styles over the years and am as fit as almost anyone my age. Without a weapon I could not defend myself against some aggressive attacks.

If you are senior and live alone you must keep your surroundings well lit. Install at least one security camera (or a fake one to discourage intruders). Also sleep with a weapon at arms reach at all times. Motion detectors in your home could alert you of intruders before they get to you. This is not paranoia. This is common sense safety.

Great vid and a lot of true facts. I am 63, but in a good shape. My Focus is on Karate/ WT (traditional, without high kicks) and Arnis for the longer range combat. A lot of technics which I learned in the past doesn't make sense when you get older. But still the martial arts are great for your health. Greetings from Germany

What if you’ve been disabled for more than half your life. I was jumped for asking nicely if they wouldn’t mind watching their language. I had my kids who were 7and 4. I wasn’t aggressive I asked nicely with respect mentioning if it was just me I wouldn’t say a thing. That’s when I was jumped by one of them. He tried coming out of the work truck with the largest wrench I’ve ever seen I saw him grabbing it and before he could make a move to get out I grabbed his wrist and hand that held the wrench and rolled him out of the truck and on to the ground, the wrench ended up under the truck this guy got up so quick grabbed a pole with a sign on it about 5 ft in length maybe 4 at the smallest, well I blocked it but by doing so it snapped when it hit my arm and swung around and the jagged end hit me in the ear. I ended up in the hospital my ear was bleeding from inside so they couldn’t tell but it was so close I could’ve ruptured my ear drum. I’ve always been able to handle myself. What would you recommend to a man that has had 13 back surgeries nerve damage and spasms who is now 58, what would you do in my situation where activity can do more damage than good, I was told that in my young 30s

Hey, I'm another person who studied Karate and Judo, not for a long time but enough to get a feel for them and I've watched Boxing and UFC since UFC #1. However, as I approach 70, there's absolutely denying that my body is nothing like it was at 20, or 40 or even 60. Injuries mount with age and if you live long enough, virtually no senior alive can escape High blood pressure or Arthritis, some amount of hearing loss and simply loss of body muscle, no matter what some BS non-medical chiropractor or nutritionist claims, reality will claim something totally different.
    I will reveal one very
Simple, Effective, Inexpensive and 100% legal self defense "weapon" & here it is:
    Gravel.
Buy some 1/4" gravel used in Planters and Walkways and sold at Greenhouses very inexpensively. Now buy some Sand, it MUST be VERY FINE, the type you find at the beach (or simply go to the beach & get it free). Now combine the two and mix them and put them in your coat pockets.
If you're about to be attacked, reach into your pocket and when your attacker is in range, hurl the sand/gravel mixture into his face as hard as possible. With any luck this will
    1. Temporarily blind him (the sand) &
    2. Sting like hell (the gravel).
Use these few seconds to kick his groin, smash his throat, throw him down and elbow him etc.
One of the biggest MYTHS, which only works if you're young is to "Run".
    WRONG!!!!
If you're a senior and you're reading this, you realize that because of your hip surgery, your knee surgery, your back surgery etc, your pacemakers, etc, your running days are over. A few seconds from now this attacker will clear his eyes and run and catch-up with you like a mad bull and destroy you.
Or ... He'll lie in wait for a week if he has to because he now knows the neighborhood where you shop or live and when he spots you, you're a dead man.
So I think you're fully justified to do whatever it takes to make sure this slug never attacks another senior ever again.
And also, IF possible, look around fast and if no one is watching, and that includes street surveillance cameras, CHECK HIS WALLET FOR HIS I.D!
Do NOT take any $$$ simply his ID. You now know who this low-life is and can report him to the police. Most likely, he will already have some sort of police record.
So these are simply my suggestions, and you can follow them or not, but I hope they help.
    Stay safe!
    All my best,
    Peace. - - - DJ

Cool. That’s great. My knees are shot, my rotator cuffs cause flare ups from old injuries and my arthritic hands hurt when gripped.
How and what can I practice while not causing more pain and injury. Give us five moves that fragile older adults can put into muscle memory. I’m sure adrenaline will allow me to perform painful stuff in the moment but we can’t force ourselves into painful pretend situations to practice. Help!!!

Great advice, Stephan! I've heard you gain 10 pounds for every Dan rank. Not! I want to be the old man that's on the ground restraining my young attacker, and when the police arrive, he says, "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!"

Click bait. I’m 67 and obviously agree with what you said. But if I wanted to get information on getting more stamina or stronger or better nutrition I would have done a search for that specifically. In todays crazy world I’m getting my Concealed weapons permit and wanted to know one or two basic moves that a sr citizen who is past there prime could do.

    • @playboymaxim
      @playboymaxim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

He was talking about so called "instructors" who are fat and out of shape. As for seniors, he is just being realistic. i don't care how well they have taken care of themselves, the average senior citizen is not going to be a match for most attackers, so their best options are to arm themselves and remain situationally aware at all times
