Can someone answer a question for me about the rules? I understand there are no points till 5 minutes, what I don’t understand is why the guy on top doesn’t get rewarded for a takedown. It seems like the bottom guy has an advantage by pulling guard before points begin.
Technically it should be neutral, if not disadvantage to be on bottom. If you pull guard from standing in the points period you get a negative point. Sometimes they are started on the feet, I think if it goes out of bounds, which would be an advantage to the better wrestler because there is a penalty for pulling guard. The rules are not really made to benefit jiu jitsu guys in my opinion

And even if you think most bjj guys would rather be on bottom, the fact is that adcc rules is the one submission grappling ruleset that makes bjj guys learn to wrestle, so there must be something to it. I think OT rounds start from the feet with points right away, so if you have to evenly matched guys it will come down to wrestling. Last year 100 percent of competitors who won on points scored first
