  • #trabant #ifa #trabi Was the quality really that bad? Why was the wide B-pillar introduced? Was the Trabant 601 also built in Moselle? These and other questions will be answered.
I was back in Zwickau to meet Herbert K., a former employee of Sachsenring Automobilbau Zwickau.
This time this interview is about the quality, party problems, shortages, again briefly something about the B-pillar, plan discussion and the front wall.
Thanks to Herbert's enormous wealth of knowledge and experience, this video contains information that might be new even for Trabant connoisseurs.
Here is a small excerpt from the video:
"Was only the Trabant 1.1 built in Moselle, or was the Trabant 601 also built there?"
"The 601 was also built there"
So that wasn't planned, we did it out of necessity because in FP9 the finishing shop, i.e. the assembly, couldn't keep up and Mr. Hahn from the VW board saw that too, where he came in for the first time, so where he came in with me came in shell construction, because the halls were all too deep compared to now VW, he took a look, I knew straight away that he wasn't building a Trabant here, so he wasn't building a car either, I don't really want to be on the Trabant
throb and in Moselle, he saw that. The new production and then just decided in Mosel will continue to be built new press shop built and with that and there were also two qualities Trabant because there was a better paint shop down there,
a newer one was put there and the time to work properly again and with the old ones, there were differences but not the welding, so those are all rumours.
So the last models also had anti-corrosion protection, so to speak?
Yes, we had an EBV system, the whole skeleton was run through and electrolytically it then applied the corrosion protection only in such cavities Heavier, there were sometimes a few misfires. Otherwise it was well protected, actually.
I have to come back to the narrow and wide B-pillar very briefly
"I always said thin and thick B-pillars until you corrected me that it means narrow and wide B-pillars. For what reason (there are also speculations)
was switched from narrow to wide?
And there were other B-pillars in the past, there was the narrow one and there was no seat belt where the seat belt was inserted, the narrow one was sufficient...
Do you also have an exciting car and maybe even a story about it?
Basically, all cars from before 1990 are of interest for the retro channel, so if you are in the mood and also come from the Zwickau area, you can get in touch. (jan@retrokanal.de)
Together I would then take a few shots with you and make a video out of it. :)

I would be very happy about a subscription.
Since the videos are to be constantly improved, praise and criticism are always welcome.
    Warm wishes
