Thank you. 3 a.m. drove to store. Replace battery. Still beeping. You showed me how to completely remove from hard wiring!!!! It now sits on my porch. Peace and quiet. I know to buy whole new carbon/ smoke detector. Bless you!
THANK YOU! There should be a snooze button on those things just like an alarm clock. Yes I know the battery is low, no I'm not going to deal with it tonight. I'll fix it in the morning
Amen brother. Blow out any dust or dead bugs, try a newer battery, and, while the battery is out, hold down the test button for 30 seconds. A full minute to say that would be excessive. Time is precious, please be a little more thoughtful. Cheers!
+Barbara Hart If it starts doing the night ( especially then !) you might consider it man-made . I mean , somebody might be doing it on purpose . Any recent break-up or somebody wants you out of your residence ? Consider these options too.
4 a.m. two nights in a row. Cleared dead bugs out of 3 and dusted all. Hoping for success. One more night and I'll just change all out. No idea lifespan of 10 years. I'm overdue. Thank you for info. Six minute video was not too long. Some of us are rookies and needed explanations. Thank you.
@Mario S. Mine went off at 10pm at night and scared the living shit out of me again! It was silent then... BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP! And they went in sequence! It scared me, it went off for the 2nd time
Yep, right on 3am my alarm started beeping. Staggering round trying to find where the hell the noise was coming before finally figuring the source and then not being able to get the cover off. Thanks for the video.
I'll cut this to 10 seconds. Remove old battery, vacuum the unit and the base, put new battery in, press button to test. Done!!! No need for long sagas here. Get to the point.
Thank God! You are a life saver, my ears are still ringing from this annoying smoke alarm. You were correct that it is an ear piercing sound that will have your ears aching.
I had painful night last night . the smoke detector went out around 3am and it kept on **beeping** all the time. I did not know what to do. Until I found this video helped .You deserve an oscar sir ,not these Emmys.!!
One thing not mentioned here is MAINTENANCE. A smoke alarm requires annual maintenance; change the battery in the Fall when the clocks turn back AND you have to use a vacuum to clean it. It tells you that in the written instructions that most people don't read. For those of you with tall ceilings, you need to invest in a 17' or 21' A-frame ladder, so you can reach these detectors. If you have electric smoke alarms with no battery, you still need to vacuum them once a year.
Ok I did all of this, replaced batteries, replaced with new smoke alarms, vacuumed all alarms out along with the ceiling wiring ( since mine are also hot wired in) now here's the real problem I haven't seen before..... one of mine goes off EVERY night at 12:04 AM, as if it were an alarm clock!!!!!!!!!! It chirps for 45 seconds every single night as if programmed. I shut my door and turn up the TV, HELP!!
wow, and I got away with my alarm for 19 years. I guess it is time to get some new ones! Never knew the smoke alarms have a life span of about 10 years. thank you for the video.
Thank you. It woke me up this morning. I will try replacing the battery, however, the back of the alarm does say to replace it in 10yrs and the date printed is 2006 Mar 06.
Hi, thanks for sharing the advice on dedusting. It has helped to get rid of annoying unstoppable beeping sound on battery replace (cause of which we kept the alarm off for several days!). Great video!
Making be crazy? That's putting it lightly. I have done everything as instructed on 27 video's. I can only assume I have a smoke detector made in 300 B.C. I have given it up for the night before my cat packs his bags and says sayonara and I wouldn't blame him. I get out of my mind frustrated when I can't do something that a 3rd grader could do. Dang it - I need to get my mind off this before it makes me any more crazy. I've fixed many things around my house thanks to video's but this one is not happening. Grrrrrrrr. I need to get some namaste going for mental peace. Oh screw it, I'm too tired, me and Mr. kitten Kat are calling it a night.
Thank you so Much!!! We had replaced the battery and it still chirped. So we blew in it to get any dust out and it hasn’t chirped since then! Who would have known!
Funny you mention that smoke detectors tend to go off at 3 or 4 in the morning because it is 4 am and the chirping is on my last nerve. Thanks for the info!
After midnight in Paris and it started chirping so loud .I really checked all the house if we have fire or smoke but there was nothing I stopped it but after just ten minutes it started again >>>> then I saw your video and I discovered that there was a spider net under the sensor so I cleaned it and will sleep again ..........thanks a lot
it tends to happen at 3:00 am.. usually because most people turn their heating down for the night... the battery inside gets colder as the heat dies down (eventually.. hence 3 am ish) and the voltage drops with it.. i know this because it had been beeping through the night (sleeping intermittently in between) In the end I had to get up and go and buy a battery.. in the mean time my heating came back on and hence, eventually, re-warmed the battery.. it wasn't beeping when i got back from the shop. I'm changing it anyway because i want it working reliably again
Could not figure out how to fix it, but this video showed me how to finally unplug the damn thing and for that I will be forever, eternally grateful. Weeks of me and my cats losing their minds to this. Gonna replace it as soon as possible, perhaps with something that doesn't drive me up the wall because of some dust.
4:40am. Ear piercing fire alarm. No fire found. Hit the reset button. Went off again. Used compress air to blow it out. Kept going off. Played this "blow it out and wait to see if it goes off again" for 15 minutes before obliterating it. Looks like I have something to replace tomorrow ;)
Thank you so very much for this information. I looked at other videos and tried everything but removing the detector and blowing it finally helped. This was for my Carbon Monoxide Alarm.. Thanks again for helping us with that annoying sound! :-)
Pro tip: Take the detector off the ceiling, wrap it in a towel and toss it out into the yard. Go back to sleep. Deal with it after you wake up. (My chirp was due to a bunch of little tiny spiders that must have hatched out in the nice, warm detector.)
Yup! It's 4 am and I tried all of the above. Time to replace it. Mine have done weird things since I moved in, and I bought the house new. But we did have bad wildfires here in California. So that might have something to do with it. I am just going to replace them and hopefully that will stop them from doing this. The other thing it does is every so often they will beep 3 times, 3 times in a row. Then it stops for a month, then does it again. I have replaced the batteries, tested them, and more, but they keep doing that. Maybe time to get an electrician in here and see if there is something wrong with the hardwired system.
Mine did the same thing plus they started to actually alarm when there was no actual fault. I had to pull down all five of my detectors and remove the batteries to stop them from alarming. I blow all of them out with an air blower designed for cleaning computers. And I also changed the batteries in all of them. This lasted for about 3 - 4 months and the other day one of them start to alarm again for a 1 second or so randomly. My detectors are over 10 years old, so I am just going to change them out.
One of my smoke alarm started to beep at 4 in the morning. I cant reach the roof even with the help of a chair because the roof is too high. It tortured me for hours! I got so mad and I literally went for my hammer! (Even I calmed myself later on) One thing I learned today is that never underestimated the power of a sleepy man!
I feel so silly. I tried taking the smoke detector down and it was hard to remove it off of the wires so I've had it up all day. You also made me laugh because mine started at 3:30am. But with some stronger tugging and pulling it came down and now I may sleep peacefully. I'll replace the battery tomorrow. =)
Thank you very informative. My mothers smoke alarm goes off for no reason but not the chirping sound that tell us that a new battery is needed. I wonder if it would be ok to vacuum the dust out (cant reach to blow on it) because as you said it might be an insect or something stuck in there. Thank you.
Mine is electric and wired to a closed circuit on the wall. I’ve tried flipping all the switches on my circuit breaker but nothing. It’s driving me insane. Why every 30 seconds? I’ve even tried vacuuming the damn thing but nothing.
Nice tip.. I just use the battery powered.. Ones.. You should shoot the old one.. For waking you up.. Your videos remind of me of law office info commercials.. You se on late night tv.. You have a tv appearance.. Made me want to buy a smoke detector lol..
Guns are better than sharp sticks if someone is trying to break in to your house. Lots of Canadians have guns at home too. I don't know why the rest of the world seems to be proud that their governments treat them like children and control every aspect of their lives.
it says on the device "test weekly" , so i took it out and push the test button for few seconds and i heard the alarming sound for 2- seconds and it stopped chirping ,also you may noticed the little red light start flashing so i would assumed it means its working regularly again since the chirping sound stopped . finally i put it back to the ceiling . i did this before same thing happened probably you have to do the testing on regular basis or when ever you hear the chirping sound starts.
Consider stalking as a cause ; If it starts in an alarm that you can not see ,with OTHER people having access to it and during the night ! Put a hidden videocamera in the area if it keeps repeating .
I'ts 1:52 am right now and I have no fucking clue how to turn off this peice of shit of a alarm so I got my grandma to come pick me up and let my parents fix it when they get back tomorrow...
For me it's 2:23 AM and it's driving me FUCKING CRAZY I almost actually threw it outside but this video sorta helped and I actually took it down and took out the battery and it went off again..... I clawed my eyes out
Thanks, negative comments used to bother me until I noticed they were everywhere, even on some really great videos that had thousands of likes. Most of the people who complain or criticize have no content on their own channels.
I did that. Still beeping. I am going to replace them all. If that doesn't work, it's time to get my electrician friend out here to figure this out once and for all.
It happened to few days ago, it could be low battery, dusty interior or you pressed silence/hush ( silence mode can be stopped by pressing test button).
Thanks, I just replaced my 13 year old smoke alarms, they drove me nuts for the past 3 years. I thought it was the battery, I had no idea they had a life span. No more chirping.
Thanks for the video. Changed the battery first on the old smoke detector and still chirping. So I exchanged the smoke detector altogether and still chirping. Any thoughts on how to get it to stop chirping?
According to the US Fire Administration website, we have lost 1,029 people in the United States due to fire in their homes so far this year. In each and every case there were smoke alarms in the home that were not working. Test your alarms monthly, replace the batteries annually, and replace the alarm when they are over 10 years old! Follow my Facebook page at "PCFD Fire Safety Education" for more information.
Great video, but no mention of turning the power source off FIRST Before you unplug the connector. This could be the difference in getting electrocuted or not! Is this important? I know you can replace the battery without turning off the power, but what about when you pull the plug off to take the alarm down?
make sure it's not your carbon dioxide detector not chirping. It either needs a new battery or replaced after so many years. It does so many beeps when you need a new one. See directions for CO2 detector as well.
also, if the room is hot, it will go off. My back hall detector(and of course all the others) went off this summer because the area was hot from noontime sun.
I had a ceiling, walls, floor renovation done last year. They lowered the ceiling and installed high hat lighting fixtures. Unfortunately, they left the smoke detector in either the wall or ceiling. It has been chirping for over 2 months. Either wait for the battery to die or tear up the drywall in search of the unit. Contractor out of business.
Sir, do you have anybody who wants you to move out or an x who wants revenge on you ? Consider these too , especially when the alarm starts during the night only . Beeping fire alarms have become a widespread mean to terrorize people with little risk of being caught .
I just got back from vacation tonight and had another one chirping. Changing batteries is usually enough but if they're more than 10 yrs old they'll probably need to be replaced.
Why these uncontrollable beeping during the nights always starts with the alarm that you CAN NOT see , not the one in your kitchen or your bedroom ? It has become a fashionable way of stocking and terrorizing people out of their residence . It is hard to prove and almost impossible to detect the criminal hand .
Fucken thing keeps chirping every minute or so ! I get up on a chair unplug it and give it a test... It will last about a week or so then starts again... I'll try cleaning it ! Great info here !
Hey so i have the same smoke detectors in my house and they are all chirping at a very high pitch every few seconds. I took out the battery but its still beeping so my question is do i have to turn off the power from the circuit breaker to the smoke detectors so i can safely remove the wire/power cable from the ceiling? Or can i just take it down without a possible shock?
You can safely take it down if they have the plug in wire harnesses. If they are hard wired (individual black and white wires going directly into the alarm) you should turn the breaker off.
Reset the stupid breaker. Leave it off for thirty seconds. Turn back on. You're welcome. Fire alarms are hard wired . They should never die. Batteries there in case u lose power. 👍
Thanks so much for the tip. ..helped tremendously
Great, glad it helped.
Thank you. 3 a.m. drove to store. Replace battery. Still beeping. You showed me how to completely remove from hard wiring!!!! It now sits on my porch. Peace and quiet. I know to buy whole new carbon/ smoke detector. Bless you!
Our alarm was chirping for 4 days and we changed the battery multiple times and it wouldn’t stop. Your video helped resolve the issue, thanks so much!
Glad it helped.
THANK YOU! There should be a snooze button on those things just like an alarm clock. Yes I know the battery is low, no I'm not going to deal with it tonight. I'll fix it in the morning
Sol Invictus I hate fcking engineers of this system. They are most likely idiots and can’t think about that solution
The Kidde smoke alarm I just purchased has a hush feature for the low battery indicator.
It will hush the low battery indicator for like 13 hrs.👍
@@magdump7380 yes but I can't find any instructions anywhere that explain how anything on the damn things works.

I used a hammer on mine! 🔨
Thanks. I just dislike people complaining about the length of the video. It's only 6 mns. Patience is key. Great job

this guy deserves a golden globe for the most unnecessary long video

Yep it happened here at 01.00 newyears morning.....happy new year, what a start!!
Same here. I hammered mine to the ground then went back to bed. Right when I was closing my eyes the fucker started chirping again.

Thanks, negative comments used to bother me until I noticed they were everywhere, even on some really great videos that had thousands of likes. Most of the people who complain or criticize have no content on their own channels.
Thank you for the great information! What did you get your 2 Emmys for?
I used to work at several local TV stations. The Emmys are for audio on coverage of two different hurricanes. Thanks.
Thanks bud ... awesome job btw.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Replace every smoke detector battery. That was my problem. The one beeping wasn't the problem, it was his silent buddy in the living room!
I did that. Still beeping. I am going to replace them all. If that doesn't work, it's time to get my electrician friend out here to figure this out once and for all.
Awesome...even though it’s only 11:30pm, in my neck of the woods. 👍
Glad it helped. It always happens late at night.
You got lucky to get 13 years out of them. Sometimes they will last longer but 10 years is the expected life span.
Thanks for the video. Changed the battery first on the old smoke detector and still chirping. So I exchanged the smoke detector altogether and still chirping. Any thoughts on how to get it to stop chirping?
it was the carbon monoxide detector next to the alarm.. thank goodness I found out..they are so close to each other
You were so right, it always happens at 3 am. In my case 2am :'(. Thank you for the tips
Thanks for the comment.
Dust or cobwebs can stray in there too. But the every 30 seconds bleep is very annoying! The UK ones are a bit different to yours.
Thank you, sir. Very useful.
THanks, glad it helped.
Watching this 2 in the morning.
Yes. Im watching this at 3am. Thanks. ☺️
Great video, but no mention of turning the power source off FIRST Before you unplug the connector. This could be the difference in getting electrocuted or not! Is this important? I know you can replace the battery without turning off the power, but what about when you pull the plug off to take the alarm down?
No need to turn the power off. you're only dealing with 9 volts so there is no danger of shocking yourself.
make sure it's not your carbon dioxide detector not chirping. It either needs a new battery or replaced after so many years. It does so many beeps when you need a new one. See directions for CO2 detector as well.
Good tip. I didn't think about that when I made this video.
i still have to find out how to open it up...
tell me about it it does not turn counterclockwise
Thought he was going to tell us something we didn’t already know about linked alarms. How slow can you talk???
It's hard to tell somebody who already knows everything something new.
You are the modern day Bob Villa...LOL...
Good series and thanks for the tip...
Scott F. Thanks Scott. Everybody remembers Bob Vila and he hasn't been on TV in years.
+MrBulletpoints Must have something to do with the 2 EMMY on the shelf?
Eric Schuman Not exactly, those are from my real job.
so how do you figure which unit is malfunctioning if they are all tied together.
also, if the room is hot, it will go off. My back hall detector(and of course all the others) went off this summer because the area was hot from noontime sun.
+Corinne Davis Thanks, I didn't know that.
i took a sledge hammer to and burryed my alarm in the back yard and i can still hear it churping when i start cooking
That sucks. It reminds of the story of the alarm clock in the wall that alarmed every day for something like 10 years. Hope the battery dies soon!
Let’s go thank you so much you really helped
Thanks glad it helped.
Sir, do you have anybody who wants you to move out or an x who wants revenge on you ? Consider these too , especially when the alarm starts during the night only . Beeping fire alarms have become a widespread mean to terrorize people with little risk of being caught .
Great Video!
+Alex Beare (TechSniper330) Thanks! I appreciate that.
MrBulletpoints
My Smoke Alarms Had Taken In Some Dog Hair, and Needed To Be Cleaned So I Blew at Them Like You Said, and Got a mouthful
I'm going to retry most of this, all of ours are beeping in almost a pattern every few seconds. it's driving me mad. thanks for these tips!
Fern it's 12:00 and it is doing it
Fucken thing keeps chirping every minute or so ! I get up on a chair unplug it and give it a test... It will last about a week or so then starts again... I'll try cleaning it ! Great info here !
Thanks, it's the most annoying thing ever.
Thank you for the video!
Thank you this helped so much
