I work at the Buchanan #1 deep mine in Buchanan County, Virginia and most of our vent shafts and portals are anywhere from 1500-2300 feet to the mine floor. The shaft you were probing is probably part of the Pinnacle Mine and they mined Metallurgical coal (for making steel). That's the same coal Buchanan #1 mines from the Pocahontas #3 coal seam. Love your videos and clean content!

My best friends husband’s father worked that mine back in the day. Its was one of the major coal mines. That is a rescue shaft. They would lower someone down that shaft from the crane to rescue injured or sick mine workers. We were there yesterday & last night around the camp fire heard stories of mining back then & today for all the males still work as miners/haulers in one capacity or another.

Funny, we mined the coal out from under that rock a few years ago. Can't believe it's still standing.

Amazing that is extremely cool 😎. 700 feet. If you noticed the rescue basket is gone from there, imagine riding that thing 700 feet to the surface. I know the fan shaft over near the red brick building on Pinnacle Creek 30 according to some history I’ve read is around 300 feet. There is also some fans very close to where you were that are still intact and not capped.

We tried estimating depth counting seconds till rocks hit bottom(clearly heard water splash) we came up with crude estimate of abt 400ft deep....we were waaaay off!! Lol!! Now get a camera down there, def should us a 360 camera and a halo light that way no matter how it spins you can get view of bottom !!! Awesome and thanks for sharing vid!!!!!

It is very frustrating seeing the amount of trash people leave behind at beautiful spots like this. These spots are becoming fewer and farther between because of crap like that.
