I think Valve has a poor marketing strategy compared to Riot. I can see it because I'm not from NA, where the Valorant community is growing and CS is getting quieter, and I have trouble finding a team to play with in CS.
Valve has never relied on marketing. Their games are usually more polished and stable than any other competitor. Also many people chose play Valorant because of it's accessibility (or to follow streamers). Better 128 tick servers, easier visibility, better anticheat and more content. As soon as CS2 comes out and Valve releases all this, then the real competition begins.
Can't compare something mostly asian kids play to something every single country and age plays. That's like comparing mandarin chienese (language with most users on planet) to English (most spreaded language across the globe) Mandarin is more spoken but you can use it only in like 4 countries while even somali pirates or sentinel islands cannibals speak some english.
