  • Sarah accidentally purchased two frames of (non-working) panel equipment from the Capehart Collection in Corsicana, TX. Oops, here they are!

    Nicely done! I hadn’t realised until now how high up the frames were. You’re doing a great job preserving this for future generations.

    GAHHHH! I was there about a week after this! I got to see Don and Rita's collection a few years back and I'm so happy to see it find a new home in seattle!
    Cheers from TX!

      Yep. These originally came from the same office as our RP/old-style crossbar senders...the Avenue U office in Brooklyn. They just had to spend some time in Texas first :)

      Sarah, back in early 2007 I made a picture place on Flickr. About Panel
      with many original pictures, hand made diagrams, a sample
      Panel trouble ticket, etc. from the 1970's. RP = Revertive Pulsing (Counting backwards). Take a look and let me know what you think... Link follows:
      www.flickr.com/photos/9479603@N02/albums/72157602826941455/with/4058647471/ There are many other systems shown. Check out

      I find today a lot of the "old" WEB links are gone. I hope to preserve these
      links as long as possible. Yes there are some Seattle photos. At the time I
      did this I was concerned history might be lost... Ken (Panel Switchman).

      @@ConnectionsMuseum I worked in that central office in Brooklyn Avenue U, I believe it was my second here working for Western Electric, working on whatever was being installed at that time, but I remember walking through the panel office many times going back and forth to the men's room. My employment started with Western Electric, February 1963, I was employed for 36 years, primarily in number one ESS, number for ESS, and number 5 ESS. Today's date is September 15th 2022. So the panel office that you're installing is from the central office in Brooklyn that I was privileged to be around when it was in service. Thank you so much for posting, all the clips that you have put together bring back great memories for I am sure thousands and thousands of former employees. God bless you keep up the great work

    What the floor load limit for that 2nd floor area ?

    • @ConnectionsMuseum
      @ConnectionsMuseum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't know, actually. I'd have to look it up. It's got to be several tons per square foot, given the type of equipment this building was made to handle.

      @@ConnectionsMuseum all telephone buildings that were constructed, they were built much stronger than the average apartment building or office building, approximately 10 times more than any normal Construction, that's what I was told, many many years ago.

      @billmoran3812 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@americanspirit8932 I don’t recall the exact floor loading specs, but telephone buildings are uniquely designed in many ways. For example instead of a structural beam on the line from column to column, there are two beams leaving the actual column line open to allow cables to pass between floors directly into the frames. Also the ceiling height and column spacing was designed to accommodate the frame height and spacing of bays etc. it would be very difficult to construct a museum for telephone systems anywhere but a telephone building.

      A friend accidentally bought plants while on Ambien and I once bought some small err… personal things while recovering from anesthesia. Was a surprise when UPS showed up. I just can’t imagine how someone could accidentally buy a couple tons of obsolete telephone equipment. 🙂
