  • Sitting alongside the Interstate 5 corridor is one of Sound Transit’s efforts to improve travel through Puget Sound: a 7.8-mile-long extension linking downtown Seattle and Federal Way.
The Federal Way link extension will cut travel time from downtown Federal Way to SeaTac to 15 minutes, and getting from Federal Way to Seattle would take 46 minutes, according to Sound Transit.
However the agency ran into a problem: the soil underneath one of the sections is unstable.
Michael Jellison, construction manager for Sound Transit, said it was critical to make adjustments before it was too late.

I’m excited to see the project in my neighborhood. But if I were spending over 2 billion dollars on a project like this, I would think to research the ground layers before starting the construction.

In the US, they can't even do an 8 mile span of track without problems & delays. Meanwhile in China, they are building mega dams, roads thru mountains, & bridges with record breaking spans.

Same with Japan like China and the bullet train in Japan. Here our trains are 30yrs old (I'm too lazy to look up the real number, I pulled that out of the air but you understand what I'm saying lol) and highly unsafe. 😑😑

Now it’s going to cost more too stabilize the ground . They say it was in the budget ha more taxes for everyone. This project ruined Bellevue and Kirkland etc this is the most ridiculous thing they could have done because it only raises house prices and taxes bringing in more and more population to the areas isn’t a good idea. I grew up in Kirkland 62 years. I never thought I’d have to leave but couldn’t stand the population anymore and was forced too move to eastern Washington where it’s more peaceful and way less populated and cheaper I love it here. But you watch it will eventually all move this way . The poor planet is taking the toll ..

Because Seattle kept down voting the purposeless, Seattle finally agreed to build it in the 90s, and now we are seeing the results of that. If Seattle agreed to build in the 60s the system would’ve been completed by now. Seattle likes to bicker amongst each other rather than agreeing on a plan and actually going through with it. Thankfully that has changed and progress is being made, unlike back in the 60s.

The I-5 has been sitting on this 'unstable soil' for over 50 years without any landslides. Suddenly, the soil can't safely carry columns and track. Please send out some reporters who are not merely notetakers. Sound Transit is lying; they want to delay opening as long as possible because when they open, 'light rail' will display its greatest weakness--the 'light' of 'light rail' refers to its capacity. The trains will fill up in Federal Way, leaving no room for the airport passengers (currently, the airport passengers fill up the trains. leaving no room for the passengers of Rainier Valley).
