Hi, Paul, this was a nice episode, cinematography and commentary were excellent. The Farr 5000 seems to be a fine sailer. It would be great to see a bunch of you and your friends sail down to NZ. When you sail, thinking out loud, it a real favor to those of us who enjoy sailing. Also naming the different boats as they sail by is terrific, much appreciated. It looks like you’re a vegetarian and we get to see your chow…heh, heh, I reckon it’s adequate for consumption. Sheesh. I still lust for that Stornaway 18, best sailer out there. We get cicadas in east Tennessee too, MAN-O-MAN!!! They can really make the loud, annoying racket. Glad they only do it once in a while. Thank you for your good, good work…from an old fan, finally retired in the US, foothills of the east Tennessee, Smoky Mountain National Park.
Thanks again PapaJ for watching and leaving a comment. NZ is a bit far away for a little trailer sailer like Kate Louise but I like the idea. Have a happy Christmas and I hope the snow is not too deep, cheers Paul
Very good. Mayfield gardens, I agree definitely worth a visit. The couple sailing the lakes up the East coast I'm jealous ,jealous , jealous...😊 Looks like You guys Definitely chose a great spot for a sail, I've never been to Myall lakes from your footage it looks really nice. Cheers
Another great video and a another great adventure showing the world what crazy RAIDers we are. Thanks Paul for all these great memories. Looking forward seeing our other madness on the water. Cheers, Terry.
Thanks mate and thanks for coming along....dragging you away from your latest boat building project. Have a great Chgristmas and hopefully see you down at St Georges Basin in the new year, cheers Paul
Thanks for another great video Paul. Although we did not actually sail to any destination I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing few days. Have a great Christmas and New Year and see you on the water in 2025 !
Thanks Phil for organising, it was a good break. I'm thinking about Georges Basin for a few days mid Jan. You and Brenda have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
Thanks Teo. Not too far from Sydney there are quite a few good inland waterways that aren't really tidal, so that's great. My Stornaway is not quite as fast as your Ozegoose ha ha....enjoy your videos. Have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
Another great vid, used to do the same in an RL24 years ago, great times before kids and bigger boats. It's just not a Summer without the drone of cicadas hey!
I enjoyed this one especially, just proving there is no need for heroics in heavy winds, just chilled. You must be easy to cater for at home - you will eat just about anything!
Yes always safety first....but it was a bit disappointing we couldn't go further. Sailing up the big lake is more fun but also more open. I think it's just more practical to cook in one pot, though it can look a bit unappetizing. Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
Those Cicadas would have my head turned! Here in Ireland, we have rubbish weather, but very few annoying insects. Lovely to see a bit of summer, as we head towards midwinter. Thanks for another great upload!
Thanks Kevin and thanks for letting us look at your Farr...it's proving popular with viewers. Have a great Christmas and see you in the new year, cheers Paul
Thanks mate we do have some nice lakes and the weather helps. But you also have some great waterways in Denmark. Have a wonderful white Christmas and thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Back in the day, I did a 9 month trip on the route rowed by Nathaniel Stone and described in his book 'On the Water'. I did it in a 13' fiberglass rowing/sailing dinghy (a Ghost 13). The route is the lesser circle which is the lower Mississippi R., to the Gulf and Atlantic Intercoastal waterway, to the Hudson R., Erie canal, Lake Erie, a 40 mile portage over to the Allegheny R., to the Ohio R. and finally back to the start on the Mississippi R. Dinghy cruising is great!
That's incredible what an adventure....what I would call extreme dinghy cruising. Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas and new year, cheers Paul
Could actually feel the warm breeze wafting out of the screen up here in Somerset UK. Papa-G laid up in the barn ‘til April, so heavily dependant on your reports to banish winter cold-turkey! Great shots of sunlight dappling ancient tree trunks…water a little clearer than the Severn Estuary…
Thanks for taking us along on your sails. I’m envious of you now as it is -6 c here in New Hampshire USA this evening but watching your video gives us hope for next spring when we can again go sailing around here!
Thanks mate....it's been high 30's for a few days this week and that's too hot! Sydney has very high humidity in summer and you just sweat gallons. I hope you have a fantastic white Christmas, thanks again for watching, cheers Paul
As always, enjoyed the adventure. I take note of your mealtime delicacies and you mentioned you might precook some pasta for next time. I can’t imagine that Ready Pasta by Barilla isn’t available there. It’s fully cooked and easily added to any dish. Highly recommended.
Yet another great post paul thanks.an observation I know this was an inland lake and yet I've never heard you mention cross or snakes here in fl. You must be on constant watch between alligators Poisonous snakes and other things that go bump in the dark there is always something that wants to kill or eat you or both at the same time.
Well we do get a lot of poisonous snakes, spiders, jellyfish and sharks but thankfully no crocs this far south, but up in Queensland for sure. Have a great Christmas Dave, cheers Paul
Hi there Paul it's Jeff from Rouchel still have got a sail boat trying to sell my run about those noise Cicarders are great Bass Fishing baits and work well thanks again for your great videos and all the best for Xmas and new year 2025
Thanks Jeffrey....good to here you are leaving the dark side and opting for a quieter sail....apart from the cicadas. Thanks for watching, have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
Well we do, if you pick the weather. Sometimes at Myall lakes it can get very narly so the sensible option is to seek cover and have a swim. Thanks for watching, have agreat Christmas, cheers Paul
I was chatting to a Farr 5000 owner this Sunday. Parked oppposite me at my local Boat Trailer yard at the Marina. His is ex charter, from the South Island. First things I noticed was all the windows. Instead of the wash boards, it appeared to have just a big zippable PVC cover.
Hi yes they are popular here and some have suggested replacing the front windows with portlights if you could get the right size. Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
Yep they are loud and I can't really filter them out when editing....I did try. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
I once saw a bloke on a SUP paddling east in Rozelle Bay Sydney, he had something lying on the board in front of him but I couldn't make out what it was until he stopped paddling into the wind, bent down and picked up his umbrella which he used as a spinnaker to head back downwind. Just a thought.............
I like it. I do have a 'windsail' off my kayak....but it's not the wind behind you that's the problem, it's coming back into the wind. See you soon , cheers Paul
The Cicada's up here in Canada are super high pitch . Hard to tell with the shear number of them in your vid . When we were kids and didn't know what Cicada's were , we thought the sound was electricity going through the power lines .
A good bit of Australiana in that video with the goanna up a stump and the cicadas. It might have been worth filling in those people who are blissfully unaware what a scourge March flies can be!
Yep the March flies were bad around dusk ....then the drop bears...I mean cicadas started falling out of the trees. Thanks again for watching Rob, catch up in the new year, cheers Paul
Hi Paul - Do any of your sailing friends have their boats on swing moorings or is it strictly trailer. Living in Sydney inner west is challenging to park trailer sailer on the street. I am enjoying your videos, thanks so much.
Hi no everybody keeps them on trailers. Mine stays on the street....the trailer has only been hit 5 times and the boat once...good to have insurance, cheers Paul
Hi Jim well, Myall lakes is brackish water, as the lake do connect to the ocean about17 kms away but the lake are fed by 2 small freshwater rivers. The water is slightly brown due to the tannin from the paperbark trees. But water quality generally around Sydney is pretty good...even in the harbour. Have a great Christmas and thanks again for watching, cheers Paul
@SailingKateLouise Thanks Paul. You definitely would not want to swim in the local waters around here! I am hoping to sail my Mirror once more before the end of the year but may be beaten by the weather. Keep up the good work. Best wishes for Christmas & New Year.
Hi Paul, Have you been following the Vendee Globe race at all ? If not, I thought you might be interested - British sailor Pip Hare got dismasted about a week ago and is making her way to Melbourne under jury rig - ETA around 29th. She has been posting progress on TH-cam which has been very interesting. If you know any sailors in Mellbourne I am sure Pip would appreciate a welcome there! Best wishes.
It's a Waller 5.4 -new Zealand designer, all timber but very fast. If you are interested I can put you in touch with John ( the owner) for more details. Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas and New year, cheers Paul
Hi Ronald, it's the marine code R flag. As we are the Raid Sydney group we adopted the R flag. See 'Raid Sydney camping, rowing and sailing in small boats' on facebook, cheers Paul
Well if we were in some countries further north we probably would. Insects are seen as a good source of protein... not really my cup of tea though, thanks for watching and have a great white Christmas Anders, cheers Paul
Well as someone suggested already that's not a bad idea. As long as you could get the right size portholes. Thanks for watching, have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
Happy Christmas everyone and thank you for watching all year and thank you for leaving a comment...I reply to all of them , cheers Paul

Another great vid, used to do the same in an RL24 years ago, great times before kids and bigger boats. It's just not a Summer without the drone of cicadas hey!
It's great to hear someone else who used to get out in a small boat before all the commitments! Have a great Christmas , cheers Paul
I enjoyed this one especially, just proving there is no need for heroics in heavy winds, just chilled. You must be easy to cater for at home - you will eat just about anything!

Hi yes they can get to white noise level. I love Ireland, the music, the people, the beer and Fuscia hedgerows in summer, cheers Paul
Yet another wonderful trip, Paul. (Can’t wait for the next one!) Cheers, these days on a small island in Okinawa for the winter...
Oh does it snow there? I know Japan has some great skiing. Thanks again for watching all year, have a great Christmas Mike, cheers Paul
Great video and an enjoyable couple of days Paul. Looking forward to more outings.
Thanks Kevin and thanks for letting us look at your Farr...it's proving popular with viewers. Have a great Christmas and see you in the new year, cheers Paul
I just envy your lovely sailing community. We don't have that in my area 🙂So I just go solo in my 20ft yacht!
Love from (wintery) Denmark
Thanks mate we do have some nice lakes and the weather helps. But you also have some great waterways in Denmark. Have a wonderful white Christmas and thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Looking good. Those cicadas are noisy. I didnt know you had them in Australia. Have a good rest of the summer!
Yep they sure are noisy....sometimes almost white noise. Thanks again for watching and happy New Year to you , cheers Paul
“It’s never a race” is what the boat behind you always says.
I know because often I'm that boat!! Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas and New year, cheers Paul
We get those cicadas in Florida too. They sure are loud.
Yep which makes it a bit difficult to film. Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas and New year, cheers Paul

Thanks Paul. As always, a pleasure to view. Those sunsets over the water are hard to beat. Hope to get to a raid soon.
You know it's hard to beat a sunset on the water, thanks for watching, cheers Paul

My wife’s equine, not aquatic, but loves your program. So do I. I sail a Welsford Sweet Pea here in Canada! All the best, Anna and Jim.
Thanks Anna and Jim, please send me a photo if you haven't already, cheers Paul sailingkatelouise@gmail.com
Looks like u lot have a lot of stress free sailing, cheers
Well we do, if you pick the weather. Sometimes at Myall lakes it can get very narly so the sensible option is to seek cover and have a swim. Thanks for watching, have agreat Christmas, cheers Paul

Funny to hear you say “it’s been quite a quiet day…” barely audible over the drone of cicadas lol
Yep they are loud and I can't really filter them out when editing....I did try. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, have a great Christmas, cheers Paul

Cicada tempura is suppose to really good Paul, or you could try singing sushi, or flaming cicada fondue.
I like Fondues... but maybe a bit crunchy. Thanks again for watching and have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
The Cicada's up here in Canada are super high pitch . Hard to tell with the shear number of them in your vid .
When we were kids and didn't know what Cicada's were , we thought the sound was electricity going through the power lines .
They do make a racket and they are very strange creatures but the buzz is a summer sound here. Thanks for watching and happy Christmas, cheers Paul
Omg the cicadas make it hard to hear. Looks like a great trip though!
Yep very loud in Summer. Thanks for persevering, have a great Christmas , cheers Paul

Good afternoon everyone
Good afternoon Thomas...actually it's morning here, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
That pedal kayak can probably easily tow a becalmed sailboat quite a distance.
Well I'll see if Brenda is up for it, next time I catch up with them . Thanks for watching, have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
Hi Paul.
Great video again!
I love the look of the clear water. Do you have any issues with water quality? Here in UK it is pretty diabolical now.
Jim
Hi Jim well, Myall lakes is brackish water, as the lake do connect to the ocean about17 kms away but the lake are fed by 2 small freshwater rivers. The water is slightly brown due to the tannin from the paperbark trees. But water quality generally around Sydney is pretty good...even in the harbour. She has been posting progress on TH-cam which has been very interesting. If you know any sailors in Mellbourne I am sure Pip would appreciate a welcome there!

Change the front windows to opening marine hatches
Hi James I'll suggest that to Kevin when I next see him. Thanks for watching, have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
What was the fast 5.4 timber dinghy please. I google Wara 5.4 but nothing came up.
It's a Waller 5.4 -new Zealand designer, all timber but very fast. If you are interested I can put you in touch with John ( the owner) for more details. Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas and New year, cheers Paul
I've seen a few videos ie sailing Wayfinder and others, with the red flag and yellow cross. Is this a club for sailing dinghies?
Hi Ronald, it's the marine code R flag. As we are the Raid Sydney group we adopted the R flag. See 'Raid Sydney camping, rowing and sailing in small boats' on facebook, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Thanks for clearing that up.
Can you fry up those cikadas up for a late night snack then?
Well if we were in some countries further north we probably would. Insects are seen as a good source of protein... not really my cup of tea though, thanks for watching and have a great white Christmas Anders, cheers Paul
( crocs)
Not here, but if you mean my wonderful yellow foot wear, yep crocs, cheers Paul
10:55 I wonder how difficult it would be to turn those deadlights into portholes. Or if it would just ruin the aesthetic.
Well as someone suggested already that's not a bad idea. As long as you could get the right size portholes. Thanks for watching, have a great Christmas, cheers Paul
