The scene with the fireworks exploding in the background while Frances tries to tempt John with the jewelry around her neck. I didn't notice it at first, but I feel that the subtle sound of exploding fireworks sound like the thumping of John's heart. He kept a calm demeanor but his heart was indeed beating heavily, and the sound of fireworks represent that.
Hollywood doesn't know what sexy and romance is anymore.

The writer of this screenplay also did 3 others with Hitchcock: Rear Window, The Trouble with Harry and the remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much.
I hope Henry will watch The Trouble with Harry, such a different side of Hitchcock - comedy! Still full of mystery and suspense, though.
Cat are able to move around in the dark quietly, climb up on weird places, etc.
Before moving on, you should check out 'The Man who Knew too Much', (the James Stewart and Doris Day version), and 'Marnie', an underrated Hitchcock gem with Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren. Both great movies.

I was so impressed when you guessed the Cat was the girl! 😮😮😮😂😂😂 I love this movie! It’s probably one of the most popular Hitchcock movies.
My friends bought that little sports car. It was in California. He sold it after a few years for $6000. Getting the paper provenance would be a hassle. I urged him to get it but he had lost steam. I think it was originally navy blue but was painted cream color for the movie.
As you know by now, Princess Grace died in an accident on that road. Her daughter was driving.
I remember as a kid I couldn’t understand why anyone would leave acting or totally give it up. She wanted a family man. I hear Cary Grant was heartbroken that she chose Prince Rainier.

Well, it was her choice to leave acting, so it's fine. It's said that she dedicated her life to charity and cultural work after that.
I just searched this up. Cary Grant was married to his third wife when Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier.

I almost forgot to suggest that if you have never seen it, react to the best Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock never made: Charade 1963 with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn.👍😀
It is famously in the public domain, too. Great cast. Funny. Offbeat. Sure, even Grant had problems with the age difference in the romantic leads but who cares. They were both attractive and had genuine chemistry.

24:50 Our eyes adjust to the darkness after ~15 minutes of "not getting any light". There will always be at least a bit of light to create ligher/darker bits ... starting with stars and in this case ... the lighting from the villa.
[One hypothesis for PIRATES wearing an eyepatch is that they "keep their eye prepared for use in darkness".]

You were asking how old is Grace Kelly when Danielle was taunting her for being "old." Grace Kelly would have been 25-26 at filming. The actress playing Danielle was 4 years _older_ than Kelly. 🤔
Well, that's unexpected 😂. I thought they would both be about the same age. Danielle does look young.
My favorite of Hitchcock's "lighter" films. The cinematography is so stunning one can feel the Riviera and the rooftop scenes have a genuine weariness to them. Lyn Murray score is also excellent. But my favorite part of TCAT is Brigitte Auber as Danielle. She embodies that role perfectly in every way.
Two actors you've seen in other Hitchcock films that you may have missed: Jessie Royce Landis (Jessie Stevens, Mother) and John Williams (H.H. Hughson). Hint: her Mother = his Mother.
I knew Jessie Stevens looked familiar, but I couldn't remember from which movie (North by Northwest). As for H.H. Hughson, I did remember him from "Dial M for Murder", though I didn't mention it out loud.

Bertani DIDNT "try to kill Foussard" ... the intended target was Robie, but in the darkness they killed the wrong person.
Object meaning objective, goal, reason. But it sounds weird that way to an American. I'm enjoying this one. It'was around a lot when I was a kid, but I haven't seen it for a long time.
It's very difficult not to notice Cary Grant's forehead tumor in this movie.

Casting Notes Fact: In this movie Jessie Royce Landis played Cary Grant's potential mother-in-law. In North By Northwest (1959), she played his mother. In reality, she was less than eight years older than Grant.
Art Imitates Life Fact: John Robie mentions that, as a youth, he was in a trapeze group that traveled around Europe. In reality, Cary Grant was in an acrobatic troupe that toured around Europe (and eventually brought him to America) when he was young.
What Retirement Fact: Cary Grant had announced his retirement from acting in February 1953, stating that, since the rise of Method actors like Marlon Brando, most people were no longer interested in seeing him. He was lured out of his retirement to make this movie, and thereafter continued acting for a further eleven years.

She was passed over for the role, but her screen test eventually found its way to celebrated director John Ford, who lobbied for the little-known actress to be included in his high-profile adventure film Mogambo (1953). Separately, Alfred Hitchcock also saw something intriguing in the same Taxi screen test, leading to Kelly’s first true starring role, in Dial M for Murder (1954).”

Thanks for sharing about Kelly's audition too. An audition for Taxi opened doors to Mogambo and Dial M for Murder. You've got to take a shot, to gain a chance for an opportunity 👍🏻
LIFEBOAT is highly recommended.
It is my favorite Tallulah Bankhead role. She was a great stage actress but her personality was just not made for Hollywood. Just look up a list of her quotes to understand why. She was naughty and funny as hell. She lived a truly hedonistic lifestyle and was not ashamed to say so.
And there are the stories from the Lifeboat set and her interactions with Hitchcock that are stuff of minor legend at this point.
They had to climb a ladder to get into the water tank. When she'd climb up, a crowd would gather. Why? Because she refused to wear panties.
Finally someone complained to Hitchcock about it.
He said that he was not sure if it was, "a matter for the costume department, makeup, or hair dressing.”
When she asked Hitch which was her 'best side,' Hitch said without a pause, "you're sitting on it."
