      It's not a fair comparison though, $110 for B450 is not MSRP but most recent pricing drop, we should look at how much it would have sold when it launched. I think it's a fair price given all the extra support you get.

    If the B550 Tomahawk was maybe around 150, it would be a good option. At 180, it's just too close to some very good budget X570 boards like the TUF wi-fi.

      GN did a video on X570 boards at every price point. Any X570 below $190 is not worth buying due to lack of necessary features, poor heatsinks, or bad power delivery. This B550 is basically a $200 Gigabyte Aorus Elite, only it's $170 instead (and has more fan headers). Also, that Giagabyte board is $380 on Newegg right now, so this board is one of the few in the $150-$200 range actually worth buying currently.

    Now if they get it certified with ECC and the new APUs come out and support it you could build a really nice NAS with it. You could the Gen 4 X16 slot for a card with a lot of M.2 drives and you could put 6 spinning disk on it. When not enterpise level you could build a pretty impressive SOHO NAS Or add a Grahics card and make it a great editing machine.

    One thing I'm curious about that's present in B450 and hoping they changed it is whether B550 disables SATA ports when you have NVMEs connected. B450 disables 2 SATA ports for each MVME you have connected, so if this fixed that issue then it's actually great for people who want to use as many drives as possible (I often have 6-9 drives depending on the PC I'm using because I need well over 15TBs of total internal storage). Currently about to build a 3600 system with B450 and saw this coming out so got interested...

    • @HotCrossJuns
      @HotCrossJuns 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      AMD is having a hard enough time trying to get 4th gen Ryzen to work with B450. There's basically zero chance that it will work with 5th gen Ryzen, so anyone who follows your advice will have to buy a new mobo whenever they want to upgrade their CPU. At that point, you might as well just tell them to buy Intel. Personally, I'd rather recommend a B550 that will cost them $50 more now (with $50 worth of new features), but saves them $100+ in the future if they want to upgrade to Ryzen 5th/6th gen.

      @@HotCrossJuns that depends on how long they plan on keeping the PC, if the person is going to keep the PC for 3 to 5 years, I think it is worth it to save money on the motherboard. Also, intel may be matching ryzen in thread and core count but their multithreaded performance in cpu heavy tasks is still behind. The Z490 boards are also a lot more expensive and B460 is not going to allow XMP settings which further decreases performance.

    • @mitsoulas76
      @mitsoulas76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HotCrossJuns B450 and B550 use the same AM4 socket. B550 will be the last motherboards using this socket, 5th gen cpus will use a different one (AM5?) and eventually you will have to upgrade your motherboard as well... So if someone for example already has a B450 there's no point to upgrade to B550, he can just save his money and upgrade his system when 5th gen cpus and supported motherboards (don't forget DDR5 RAM as well) get released.
